  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

After an unsatisfactory purchase of Auxlight LEDs from Amazon and some research, I settled on a set of Lasfit 1157 LEDs, which promise resistor-free application on MOST vehicles. I can confirm they are extremely bright and no hyperflash.

The metal heat sink will get hot and because of their length, I was concerned about the distance to the diffuser shroud. There should be plenty of space (about 1.5 inches) for heat dissipation without damaging the shroud lens especially since these are not dual function/DRL bulbs.

I'll add a video comparing the stock bulb, Auxlight (advertised 1600 lumens) and Lasfit (advertised 2600 lumens).

So are these plug and play?

p.s. Why so many dup images?

Yes, Plug & Play LEDs

P. S. Duplicates removed

Here's some short vids from about 5 feet away from my garage:

Incandescent comparison

Auxlight LED comparison

Both installed

After running these for a few days I can say I'm extremely happy with the brightness/color. Some of you might be concerned about temps given their size/output. Lasfit claims 5-8 mins of continuous use until the safety kicks on and they begin hyperflashing to prevent overheating. Safety will auto reset once they cool momentarily. I decided to check temps today using a IR thermometer at the heatsink (LED out in the engine bay). Here's how they performed at the following times:

Starting heatsink temp 68.7F
1:00 - 108F
1:30 - 128
2:00 - 130
2:30 - 151
3:00 - 164
3:30 - 173
4:00 - 182
4:30 - 189
5:00 - 195
5:30 - 201
6:00 - 208
6:30 - 215
7:00 - 225
7:30 - 235
7:45 - HF once
8:05 - HF once

So, thermal safety works as claimed. It is pretty cold at the moment so during the summer they will hit the thermal safety temp sooner. However, I'm completely fine with that since they shouldn't be run this long unless the car is on the side of the road with the hazards on.

Heat sinks get hot to the touch but don't radiate significant heat. I don't foresee heat damage to the lens diffuser in front of them given there's plenty of space.

And a couple more cents to toss in: I bought these from Lasfit's ebay acct as a "make offer" for $50, which is less than list price on their website. They shipped quickly and even sent a follow up msg asking if they were installed yet/level of satisfaction. This speaks volumes in my book.

So, the 3:30 mark is your actual max runtime. The LED chips can't go beyond 176*F before you start to drastically shorten their lifespan- to the tune of lasting only hours to as low as minutes. And if you're measuring those temps at the heatsink, the actual chips are probably another 30*F higher.

The inclusion of a thermal safety is only beneficial if it's set to the proper temperature. Reaching 235? RIP chips.
