  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello everyone, first time poster here.

I noticed my rear diff is leaking. It was covered in oil, so I cleaned it and took another picture after driving it a bit more. Appears to be the rear diff cover seal leaking. I am the 2nd owner of the car, so I don't believe I have the powertrain warranty anymore ... assuming the import to South Korea probably voided that too.

Quick browsing shows the entire diff assembly is ~$1300. What're you going to do in my situation? Pay factory Hyundai to fix the seal? (Assuming that's $1,000+ mostly in labor) Replace the diff completely? I am really disappointed that it's leaking at such low mileage. I love the car and want to keep it, but I'm a recent purchaser of the vehicle so I'm not particularly ready to throw a bunch of money at it until I confirm everything else is reliable and functioning well.

Thoughts? Thank you!

I would not replace the entire rear differential for a leaking seal. The rear differential cover is sealed with RTV and it may only need to be resealed.
