If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tomorrow morning, I will be driving out to Roswell NM. While there, I will make a side trip out to Phoenix for a couple days, and on my return to Roswell, will spend a day in Ruidoso NM. Will be in Roswell for a week returning to Florida around April 17th.

Will be driving out on both Interstates (I-10 & I-20) and regular roads, (US49 to Jackson MS and US380 from Denton TX to Roswell). In addition, will be on both back country roads plus Interstates in AZ and NM.

I will report the fuel milage, the ride comfort, etc. I.E. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. I don't pull punches. So far, driving around Central Florida since mid January, there has been nothing (mostly) but good.

I will report every couple days or so.

Drive safely and don't pay any attention to those wierd lights in the sky around Roswell!

Do pay attention to gas stations, not that the Genesis sucks fuel, but there's parts of the southwest that has few and far between stations. When a sign says next gas 100 and some miles, believe it.

I think he has been to Roswell quite a few times.

First report. RAIN RAIN STORMS.

Gas Milage once at 26.5mpg, twice at 27.5mpg, once at 28mpg, and once at 29.7mpg (yes, 29.7) Always going between 70 and 80mph. I find my best milage around 75 mph. The best milage was when it was misty, much humidity in air. As strange as it may sound, the worse milage was when I was going around 60 to 65 mph due to the weather. (I did bump the speed up to 100 a couple times, when passing, but normally, kept it below 80. Today, very stormy and a lot of thunder storms. Wife wanted to stop early, so at this rate, will reach Roswell either late tomorrow (friday) night, or early saturday.

Car handles great in the rain and when going through puddles. Today was VERY WINDY in the storms and car got blown around a bit, but so was every other car on the road. Car was very stable in yesterdays storms, and early today. For the most part, the suspension is good, but some roads, like I-20 through Jackson MS are very rough, and the stiff suspension picks up every bump. My wife likes the softer suspension of her Continental, but I can live with it. She does not complain about it as much as the suspension on the MKZ that I traded in.

Because the wipers were used so much, I was getting a "scum" forming at the end of the wiper stroke. I carry "Rain-X" just for this reason, and I use it only where the scum forms, to remove the scum. I learned a long time ago to not use Rain-X on the whole windshield as I've always had problems when using on the whole windshield. Well I cleaned the black scum twice, and after the second time, I cleaned the whole windshield with the "Orange" spray soap. No more scum has formed.

The automatic wipers work great. I only wish that the headlights would come on when the wipers come on.

Nothing else I can think of at the moment. Will post more in a couple days.

BTW, my wife gets scared when I "step on it" like when passing, and she thinks this car has "too much power for me". (I Love It).

Was just watching The Weather Channel while reading your post. I bet that southern route heading west was something else today. Hopefully all of that is behind you and you can cruise in some better weather. Enjoyed reading the update. Glad to see the mileage is decent and the quality of the ride is as you expected. Stay safe.

Ditto. As a potential buyer I enjoy hearing about your extended experience. Thanks for posting.

Great post! I agree that the 4.6 seems to get great mpg right at 75mph and the ride at that speed is also fantastic. The best part though, is when doing 75 and you step on the gas you are instantly over 100mph. Incredible torque!! Be safe and thanks for the post.

Like JPW, I am a potential buyer -- so I am very interested in this particular thread! Right now, I am leaning toward waiting for the '10 model year, in the hope that they tweek the suspension. Thanks for taking the time to share your observation while on your x-country trek.

Amazing that a 375 hp car gets that kind of gas mileage -- even on the highway! Very impressive.

BTW, I also enjoy scaring my wife when we're driving together. I know I've succeeded when she reaches for the dash or the armrest, as if to brace herself! Keep it up!

One thing I forgot to mention yesterday. I-20 through Jackson MS, Shreveport LA and around Dallas/Fort Worth is the worse road I've been on for bad bumps. Terrible.
On those sections, the ride on the Genesis was very bad. My wife hated it, however once we got West of Fort Worth, the road got better, and any "normal" bumps were well taken care of. My wife would rather take the Continental on long road trips (darn).

Another thing I forgot to mention. GOOD NEWS. The car is still as solid and rattle free as the day I bought it. Even on these terrible roads, not one rattle or squeek. Solid car.

Today my milage was in the 27 to 28 mpg range. Have not had time to calculate it out. Could not squeek out 29, but a lot of up hill plus lots of head and side winds, but not as bad as yesterday.

Lastly, my altitude reading has never worked right, (but I'm not taking back to dealer to correct it) as I don't get actual altitude. While in Florida, it always reads either 0 feet or 200 feet. Nothing inbetween. Now on this trip, the reading goes up in increments of 200 feet. I.E. 1300ft, 1500ft, 1700ft, 1900ft. Once it went to 2000ft, but never the actual altitude. Oh well, I will just live with it.

BTW, car has not used any oil. Not a drop.

Don't know if I will be able to get on computer for the next few days, but will give more info when I can.

Had a small change of plans. Stayed in Roswell for only one day, and then decided to head to Phoenix, returning to Roswell later in the week.

Left Roswell, and got my normal 26-28 mpg up to Lordsburg NM, on I-20. Filled up there, then something amazing happened. My milage went up again. Even counting going uphill before I got to Benson AZ, I must have been going downhill into Phoenix, as I got 30.8 mpg when I filled up in Phoenix. (When going through Tuscon AZ, my gauge read as high as 31.3, but then the winds must have started back up so it went down to 30.8). The milage increase could be because I got real gas, not E10. Don't know.

Will return to Roswell on Wednesday, and stay for a week before I return to Florida.

My wife gets tired in this car due to the stiff suspension. On the rougher roads, I admit that I don't like it much ether, but when the roads are smooth, its great.

Still no rattles or squeeks. Quiet and solid.

Bluetooth works great.

"Jenny", the girl in the Navi unit guides me very well. She lets me know where to turn well in advance, plus I love the little screen on the right side, that tells me what I'll find at the next three exits. (Food, Motels, Fuel, etc) This trip is teaching me more and more about the various things in the DIS, because I'm using it so much.

The little chrome "H" on the center of the horn/steering wheel sometimes reflects sunlight into my eyes. (Picky Picky, Picky)

Nothing else for now, as I'm not going to give milage reports in Phoenix city driving. Will wait until I get back to Roswell Thursday for any extra information.

When ypu get back, order the self-stick Genesis emblem for the steering wheel - looks great, and you won't even get to Picky-Picky! :D

First report. RAIN RAIN STORMS.

The automatic wipers work great. I only wish that the headlights would come on when the wipers come on.

I fail to understand why domestic and foreign car manufacturers don't wire the headlights to come on automatically when the wipers are in use. Turning on your headlights when it's raining or drizzling and the wipers are in operation is the law here in California. With or without the law, it seems reasonable to me to assume that having the headlights on when the wipers are being used provides an additional safety factor to the trip since visibility is diminished to some degree in inclement weather. If there is a legitimate reason for the headlights not to be on when the wipers are being used, I can't think of it.

Excellent report, by the way. Keep 'em coming. Makes me want to take a trip and stretch my Genny's legs.

Going back to Roswell tomorrow, so while I have the time, thought I would look at my milage figures and report the average so far, from Florida to Roswell to Phoenix.

Average is 27.3 mpg.
Low was 25.5 (very windy and strong headwinds)
High was 30.9 (no winds - Lordsberg (or Lordsville) NM to Phoenix.

I seem to get my best milage at around 75mph. (Just the way the car is geared)
All this on 87 octane regular. Will not report any milage figures while in Roswell, as it is all city driving, but I may report my milage from Phoenix to Roswell, via Flagstaff and Albuqerque (sp).

I am starting another thread about a good experience at Chapman Hyundai in Phoenix.
Look for the thread.

I'm back in Roswell. Very heavy winds. Fought winds between Phoenix and Flagstaff, but even worse, DUST (SAND) STORMS, between Flagstaff and Alburquerque. First time I've ever driven through dust storms. (The good is that most of the wind was from the rear, so my milage was over 30mpg) I knew there was going to be a lot of dust, so before I left, I put an oiled piece of foam A/C filter over the air intakes, above the radiator. When I arrived here in Roswell, I checked out the engine air filter, and it had very little of the red dust in there. Shook it out, and replaced it back in it's holder. The added filter above the radiator, plus the top of the engine, plus everything in the engine compartment, was covered with the red dust. Took car to a coin car wash, and using plain water, I cleaned out all the red dust from the engine compartment. Then I washed the car. Hope the winds calm down.

The added filter over the radiator was also loaded with red dust/sand. This saved the engine air filter as there was very little to no red dust on that filter. Have not yet checked the cabin filter.

Will head to Florida sometime late next week.

1. Leaving to return back to Florida tomorrow. Hope to be back by thursday night or sometime friday, depending on how often my wife wants to stop <grin>. Will report on my fuel milage at that time.

2. Although I have reported that the suspension "could be softer" in the Genesis, I was driving around in my best friends 09 Prius, here in Roswell. (He won it at the "Billy The Kid Casino" in Ruidoso). The suspension in that Prius is every bit as stiff as my Genesis.
Will have to see how it is on our trip back to Florida.

Hope to have all my gas milage figures together by friday night, and will report at that time.
