  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Lexicon sound system to me sounds..blown out or "tinny"? Problem?

I hear mine too, or at least I think I do. Regardless the bass thumps and Im happy with it. Now one thing I cant figure out....does the speed dependent volume control option actually work? Ive had mine on for a while and I cannot tell any volume change as my speed goes up or down

I'm convinced it doesn't do anything. Or if so, VERY little. Moving from surface street to freeway always goes hand-in-hand with increasing the volume for me

Deff try lowering the tremble to help with that

Gotta play w/my settings.. initial thoughts are the Lexicon sounds much better than my crappy beats audio in my previous car (although less bass, but I had like -4 bass set on that car, just to make it tolerable). Sounds comparable to the wifey's XC90, but not quite as good.

The Lexicon system is garbage. There is absolutely zero bass. The highs are excellent though. I have issues with sound cutting in and out. It doesn't go all the way out, seems like the front speakers go silent for a couple of seconds and come back on. I replace all the door mid range speakers with Kicker D series 6.75in. I couldn't really tell a difference. So I bought some dynamat hoping it would help with bass and road noise. If you plan on putting deadner in I would advise against it. Pain in the Ass. I couldn't get the interior door panels all the way off. Made for a very difficult instal.

I agree. They have no business calling this a premium sound system.

I am no audiophile, but I have had my fair share of audio systems over the years and once I adjusted my settings, I am not hearing the problems others have raised. I think the Lexicon system sounds quite nice actually. My only gripe is that the bluetooth seems to “skip” every few mins when listening to music through the phone. Not sure what’s causing that.

Kinda surprised by these posts...
I'm actually happier with the G70 15 speaker lexicon system over the G80 17 speaker system. The bass has a fantastic and much more diverse range. The treble seems more clear and better appreciated through the bass. The soundstage is also great, with my only complaint being that the front center speaker is slightly blocked by the nav screen.

Overall I'm very pleased with the sound, atleast with my 29yo ears.

It's funny, but no one is wrong. There's lots of people that like BOSE - nothing wrong with with BOSE if you want the least realistic sound and scooped mids. I don't mean that in a a bad way - many people prefer it. The Lexicon system in my G70 is fantastic, best I've ever heard in a factory system. Bass is great - it's perfect. I hear it loud and clear, it thumps, but it doesn't overwhelm, nor should it. If it does, well, if that floats your boat that's ok but that's not what bass in a properly set up sound system is supposed to do. IMO, I find it very accurate and very revealing. I think that may be the problem some folks are having here (though not sure).

The more accurate a sound system, the more it shows the 'flaws'in a recording or a source. That's why BOSE sounds so good to so many people, it masks so much, it rolls off the highs and even the low lows, and for many that sound is pleasing.

To each their own - I use the Aux port btw - and an Astell & Kern JR hi res music player as my source. I find the HD radio source not all that great, and I don't really listen to HD radio anyway. When I do listen to radio stations, I hear the source, which often is not very good. Not the systems fault for not masking it.

Getting a good bit of this today actually. Like a click or distortion every once in a while, almost once per 20 seconds, changing sound enchancements didnt fix it and neither did volume. Went away when plugged in via USB. Something to do with BT for sure.

Yeah pretty annoying. And its interesting how it happens sometimes but not others. I have stretches of a few days where I don’t notice it at all and then out of the blue it starts happening every minute.

Hmm I'll try to play around with it for the next few days. I agree that it seems to come and go. I hope this car is bluetooth 5.0 lol..

I'm never sure if it's the source of the sound or the speakers. I get this off and on with all my BT headsets. It comes and goes so it's frustrating to try and troubleshoot. I suspect it's more of a phone issue since I hear it across all. No comment on the G70 since I'm waiting for delivery on mine.

Huh.... I don't think I've ever had that issue with my music via Bluetooth. It always plays without any sort of skipping or clicking.

I really think it's a phone hardware and/or software thing... Perhaps everyone that is having this issue should state what phone they have?

I've got a OnePlus 6, using Android/Oxygen OS.

Interesting, perhaps it is a phone compatibility issue. I have a Samsung Note 10+. No issues with my G80 Ultimate.

After playing around with the stereo a bit. The frequent bluetooth skipping noise seems to only occur with carifi or quantum surround features enabled. Otherwise, no problem. No issue when in android auto with either config.

Please Read Rant below If you could like to know more about Music and the G70's Lexicon system:

The Tinny is caused by the DSP when you set QLS (Quantum Logic Sound) to Audience (most noticeable tinnies) somewhat when you set it to Onstage . Clari-Fi and bad source of music will also cause it due to Clari-Fi trying to imperfectly restore the high frequency mainly (high frequencies use up the most bit rate to store) that were lost.

If anyone of you ding dong's is commenting on this post and are using bluetooth (320 kbps), Sirius xm (192 kbps) or the radio(96) y'll should just throw grains of salts with your post cause that's literally what it is.

The source is the first thing please be using aux, or usb cable otherwise the audio the quality and the sound your hearing is already tempered and impacted. CD and USB Quality files will play up to 1.5 Mega bits per second of quality thus it will tax the system for what it truly is and what it can sound like.

Either way the G70 Lexicon system is already a compromised and uses less amp channels ( 11 vs 12), less speaker (15 vs 17), lower quality speakers (only mid center, smaller sub-woofers), and a weaker amp rated at 660 watts vs 900 from g80 /g90 (basically same system except for placement of speakers) when compared with with it's big brothers. You have the same sound acoustic engineering being applied to a dumbed down cost cutting system. You will have tinnier treble and mid and lack of bass. This system is flat compared to g80 / g90.

Recommended Setting For Decent Sound Experience :
Listen via USB or Aux
Have CD 320 + KBPS Quality Source of Music
Clari-Fi On
QLS : Onstage or Off
Treble : -3
Midrange : +7 (Gotta offset the high frequency's right)
Bass : +5

Closing Point : You will probably never be satisfied with the Bass or Output of the G70 Lexicon System it's in about the same class as BMW Harman Kardon and one class below Audi's B&O.

Although you provide some good info, you lose points for being a jackass and calling people 'ding dongs'. Also, sound is subjective. Your ears and mine cannot always hear the same frequency causing differences in opinions you see here.

Ah I think he was playfully saying ding dongs, as a gentle tease. I personally wasnt offended atleast. I do think sound is subjective but I appreciate his information regarding the clarifi and QLS systems.

I did try his exact settings as above and did enjoy the pairing of the higher mids with the onstage setting, however I felt the treble was a bit too tame and scaled back a bit on the mids and reverted some of the treble. I do 100% agree that if using onstage or clarifi, a plugged connection seems to be best.

As far as bass goes, the woofers are likely smaller than the G80 woofers as their response curve seems wide but less powerful at the lower hz. One large difference in our experiences is likely that I ALWAYS crack my front 2 windows by approx 1inch, it's just habit. That seems to have an almost ported effect on the woofers, allowing for more appreciable bass, atleast subjectively.

As compared to my G80 17 lexicon, I really do enjoy the G70 sound system. Neither are the best in the business, but both satisfy me entirely. Just my thoughts.

I suppose it could a tease, and if so I apologize. Perception vs intent is a crazy thing

Even if it was a tease...it was his 1st or 2nd post. So a bit more of an introduction would have been better perceived.

Personally...ding dong offends me. It is too close to dingleberries in my book...and I have to deal with those hanging off my dog's ass way too often ;)
