  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sat. wife calls and says car will not rev up. Made it home with car at a fast idile. Said there is a light on the dash lit up. I came home and she had the book out and it was the emissions/check engine light but the ESC light also came on immediately after the check engine light. RPM dropped to fast idle and stayed there. For the check engine light Owners manual says that the car should operate but take it to dealer and check it out. No mention what to do if ESC also comes on. I went out and started the car drove it and it ran normally. Used it in the afternoon no warning lights of any kind. Sat. evening on way home from church same thing. Stopped shut off restart and run normally. Called nearest dealer (2-1/2 hrs. away) on Mon. and was able to get in on Tues morning at 9:00 AM. Coded P2106 Limp Home Mode and P0638 Throttle Actuator. The TP (throttle position) sensor tested bad. Replaced it and problem thus far has been solved. If this happens to any of you it may help a little.

This exact problem has been reported by quite a few others on this forum. Thanks for posting the details for the codes.

It's possible that it is something as simple as the gas cap not being tight or it won't seal properly.
I am referring to others who eventually got it fixed and specifically said the part replaced was the Throttle Actuator. There are several threads on this.

Those who first encountered the problem had a very hard time getting warranty service on this since the problem was usually intermittent, and Hyundai Motors America was not authorizing the replacement of this part unless the problem could be demonstrated to the dealer (per normal warranty policy).
