But, last I looked, there are no Acura dealers in Japan.

Didn't know that. Found this on the web...The brand made waves when it was launched in 1986 as the first Japanese luxury marque. When Acura debuted, all its vehicles were assembled in Japan. Today, only the flagship RLX is built there. Only one Acura model is even sold in Japan: the RLX, badged as the Honda Legend.

I haven't been on the forum in quite a while. When I leased my 2017 Genesis it was for all the perks that came with it, along with being a great vehicle. After having my car for a few months the dealer I had gotten it from said they weren't a Genesis dealer anymore, that they would still service the vehicle but no Genesis loaner. So I got my car serviced at another Genesis dealer and had all the perks until my last oil change back in August when they informed me that they were loosing the Genesis franchise since they wouldn't put up a freestanding building. I found this a bit odd since they were a high volume dealer of Hyundai and Genesis.

Fast forward, yesterday my wife asks if I had seen the billboard that Genesis was coming to the town I got my car from We looked up on the sight and the dealer that I had leased my car from is now a Genesis Dealer again. But the one that I had been taking it to as its replacement is not. Is this because they only want x amount of dealers in a given mile radius?

I had seriously considered not leasing another vehicle from Genesis do the the lack of dealer network in the area. But since they now have a dealer back near me I will most likely get another Genesis G80. At the time it was the best bang for the buck and still think it is.

Their original plan was to have a limited dealer network but last spring they changed it and all Hyundai dealers were offered a choice of becoming a Genesius franchise or receiving some compensation for passing it up. It seems like in the end we will have about a little less than half of them choosing to become a Genesis franchise.

I didn't save all of my lists from November but I think they were one of the first Genesis dealers in NY. For quite awhile only upstate had them and there weren't any near the NYC.

When I leased my G80 they were and then they were not. They became a Genesis dealer again recently. They are a high volume Hyundai dealer. Gotten a few cars from them.

I was involved in a motor vehicle collision last night (see: Result of Sleeping at the Wheel) and so this morning I called my dealer of purchase, which up until recently was known as AutoNation Genesis Mall of Georgia. They informed me that because they are no longer a Genesis dealer I should contact an actual Genesis dealer for assistance.

I was quite surprised and disappointed. I had assumed AutoNation would have transitioned during this process, so I have no idea why they aren't moving forward with becoming a proper Genesis dealer.

They probably didn't think they would make enough money to justify it so they took the buyout instead. Georgia has quite a few dealers so perhaps the volume wouldn't be there.

Yep. You are probably correct. There is a Genesis dealer 10 minutes down the road.

Update from California. Genesis of Pittsburg (SF Bay Area) will be getting some new cars March 31. "March 31st we are going to see some G70's, a couple G80's, and one G90!"

There is a large Hyundai dealer not too far from me. They are listed as a Genesis dealer an are showing a some inventory on their web site. I drove by there today and was surprised to see they don't have any Genesis signage at all anywhere at the facility. You'd think they'd have something even if temporary. This is in a busy area with all of the luxury brands up and down the same street. Just thought this was odd.

Until Hyundai stops treating the Genesis line as a hobby, the situation will not change. A true Genesis dealer can't exist with the limited lineup unless he has a huge pile of cash to pay the monthly nut while they sell a few cars. Yeah, the G70 helped a bit, but as many have alread said, the coming "?" SUV models will either make or break the Genesis line as a separate dealership selling ONLY Genesises.

How long have they been a Genesis dealer? There is a template that they all use, supplied by the mothership. I imagine some dealers take a bit longer to take care of it. To some dealers, the internet is still some mysterious place.

Unfortunately that is not the case. Genesis provides a template but not all Genesis dealers use it. Some of the earliest Genesis dealers still weren't using the template the last time I checked.

Edit: I just quickly checked 10 or so and came up with these.

Genesis of Warner Robbins (GA)
Genesis of Milford (MA)
Genesis of Norwood (MA)
Genesis of Macomb (MI)

Edit2: It is not a fool proof way to find them but a starting point is when you do a dealer locator and there is not a View Inventory option even though when you do an Inventory Search the dealer has inventory. Looking at the example for Genesis of Norwood, there is no View Inventory button, they have inventory and when you do a search for Genesis of Norwood the Boch Hyundai site is returned. What makes it even more frustrating for potential customers is that you can't see the Genesis inventory on their site (at least I haven't found a way).

You proved my point. Some dealers still think the internet is a mysterious place. It is also possible that some dealers are still not fully committed yet. Take the dealer in Milford MA, He is a good sized dealer and sells a lot of Fords and Chrysler products but I don't recall him ever selling Hyundai. When I used to take the company pickup there for service he was not a Hyundai dealer. He is also near one of the more aggressive dealers, Herb Chambers. I'd not be surprised if he bailed out and figured the volume is just not there.

The two Genesis dealers in my market are just connected to their Hyundai dealership....one enlarged their showroom and built an alcove that can hold two cars. The other just "repurposed" part of their Hyundai showroom
Unless Hyundai is offering the dealers $$ to finance these I find it hard to see how a independent dealer can justify these additions. I get that the Hyundai part of the dealer ship is covering the overhead...but still as an independent business man you want every square foot to produce
The other part is there is no difference in the service level. Same waiting room..same service drive etc etc as the Hyundais

I had my Equus in for service last week and test drove a another G90...this time a V8
I do like the V8 better than the 3.3 turbo. I still think the Equus rides better( as long as the road is smooth). There is something to be said for air suspension
The salesperson told me they were offering some large incentives on leasing...but not on purchases. She said Genesis was trying to manage the resale of the G90's and thought they could do so by incenting leasing versus buying. I found that interesting. I told her I has seen low mileage(10-15K) 2017 V8 AWD's in the mid $40's and that I suspected when the leases( of the first buyers) starting rolling in later this year that the prices would be closer to $40-42K
She told me Genesis didn't have a CPO plan as of yet but they realized they needed one to compete..and that their dealership was keeping an eye on that new plan when they were looking at lease returns that came up to auction

I have thus far visited 3 Genesis dealers--2 states. All had Genesis vehicles on site at the time of visit. No signage; no separate show room. One has a G70 in a prominently placed inside draped with accolades (e.g. Motor Trend Car of Year).

Only thing "dedicated" that I have noticed is a salesperson or two who is a Genesis "specialist." Even the specialist, though, is also selling Hyundai cars--not enough sole Genesis sales yet.

Until Genesis has more vehicles (and SUVs) I doubt we see very many separate dealerships. Kind of seems it wouldn't hurt to have some signage. Unless you are acrivelt hunting for the car, and researching, it can be tough to find.

Realistically
Genesis is probably only get the volume by selling small SUVs/crossovers( RX, NX) and midsize sedans.(ES)..ie...the overwhelming majority of sales volumes at Lexus dealerships in the last decade
I dont think the Genesis brand is really a serious consideration for the German cars buyers....I dont think Lexus is either

Unfortunately..the dealership experience is at Lexus dealership is on a whole other level than Genesis/Hyundai dealers
