List of Stand-Alone Genesis Dealerships

I refuse to use a servicing dealer where I can't see in the service area or walk around the OUTSIDE to look in and watch from outside the doors.

Even though I have a Hyundai dealer 8 miles from me, I don't get service there because the car goes behind a door and you never see it again until ready. I use a dealer about 25 miles away. I can walk around the outside and look in the doors and watch.

My present Brand-X dealer is very close and I can see EVERYTHING from the open doors. If I have a question, the Tech invites me in and shows me. I like that.

In the last twenty years, I've cought dealers trying to cheat me had I not been watching.

Two examples.

1. Had a coupon for oil and filter change at Courtesy Buick in Orlando. I had a Buick. Was passing by and said"well what the heck" so I pulled in. Watched tech install a White filter. Told him that Buick/AC Delco filters are Blue
Service writer would not do anything about it. Said "if I wanted a Buick filter, I should have said something and it would cost me more". (Later saw it was a "Formula Seven" filter used by independent shops). A few years later, when I had a Chrysler convertible, I stopped into a new Courtesy Chrysler dealership that was still being built. Talked to a service writer. Told him what happened at Courtesy Buick. He whispered to me, "we do the same thing".
Both dealers now out of business.

2. Went to a dealer and Brought My Own Full Synthetic Oil. Saw Tech put my oil aside and filled with a different oil. Tech said "oh, I forgot". Made them drain and put my oil in.

Had I not been watching, I would never have caught it.

Who knows what goes on behind those closed doors.

I’ll bet they love you at the dealer... but I think you missed my point entirely (post #117).

Yes, this is a key issue, not only for Lincoln, but for Genesis. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. My solution to the problem would be to have separate showrooms, sales lots and service counters, BUT have consolidated service shops. In other words, put the Lincoln/Ford and, likewise, Genesis/Hyundai service shops in their own facility.

You can’t blame dealership owners who own multiple brands for not wanting to invest in separate, expensive, service shops. Fer gawdsakes, just hang a sign on the joint service building that simply says “service.” At most dealerships customers are banned from entering these shops already. Customers don’t really care where their vehicle is serviced, as long as the job is done right.
This has always made sense to me.

The key phrase on post 117 is "as long as it's done right". Dealers may not love me, but I make sure the job gets done right.

There are some tech's that I trust implicitly, (I know of two) but others have to be watched like a hawk.

As President Reagon said, "Trust but verify".

BTW, I'm double retired. I later took a job at an auto dealer. Parts and service. You would not believe the ways you, the customer can be taken advantage of.

Lincoln asking its top dealers to build standalone showrooms

Lincoln is re-addressing stand alone dealerships with their dealers. With the Corsair, Nautilus, Aviator, Navigator and Continental (for now-it sounds like it's on shaky ground). They are in a better position to get dealer support expansion. Hopefully in the next few years Genesis will be able to move ahead with a few stand alone dealerships in key markets.
Lincoln seems to be reaching a tipping point, and the construction of stand-alone Lincoln dealerships is accelerating. It should show to Genesis that these things are possible. Like Genesis, Lincoln had earlier tried a tough-love approach, penalizing joint Ford/Lincoln dealerships that refuse to split. And like Genesis, Lincoln had to back away from that approach due to lawsuits under state franchise laws. They shifted gears to a more incentive approach, which got the ball rolling. But once more Lincoln-only stores started appearing something funny happened. Lincoln clients started flocking to them to get a better luxury sales and service experience. The market should finish what Lincoln's incentive program began. Genesis appears to be attempting to implement a similar approach, and if they do it right Genesis dealers will come to see that it is a market opportunity for them, not just an added cost.

"Lincoln says that new brand-exclusive standalone dealerships saw a combined 25 percent increase in retail sales for 2020. Compare that to a 0.5 percent overall retail sales decline for the full year.

"Twenty-three new Lincoln stores opened in 2020, and several more opened in late 2019 before the start of the pandemic. These openings followed the relaunch of the Lincoln Commitment Program, which incentivizes the construction of standalone brand showrooms. The program requires a vitrine-style showroom approach that’s notable for floor-to-ceiling glass windows, though it offers flexibility when it comes to facility size.

"Lincoln President Joy Falotico says that the program has earned positive feedback from dealers. It’s also leading to a flourishing of Lincoln showrooms — Falotico says 11 new Lincoln vitrine showrooms should open by year’s end with 40 more slated to open in 2022."

Vitrine is a French word that means store window. In English=a glass display box.

Here's a fun update for you all: What seems to be one of the first stand-alone Genesis dealerships in the country has just opened in Santa Monica! I just visited yesterday and it's beautifully done inside and they have plans to completely redo the exterior, as well. I apparently can't attach the video I took for some reason, but I've attached some photos from Google and a screenshot from my video showing their plans for the exterior which will be completed over the next year.

It's a pretty small footprint, but I like it because it feels boutique and not not intimidating and they really don't need a massive showroom. The salesman I spoke with was brand new, but super super nice. Definitely feels like it will be a more premium experience and now I can't wait for my next service 😂

I also recently discovered that there is a Genesis Studio at Hudson Yards in NYC – that looks beautiful as well! Very similar to a Tesla Store in concept, though I'm not totally sure if they're actually selling vehicles at this location.

Glad some Genesis stand alone dealerships are opening up. Here in San Antonio, we have a single Genesis dealer who's main volume is Hyundai and it shows. My seller knew literally nothing about my G70 or my traded in G80, with literally the entire process being as lackluster as possible, I felt like I had bought a Hyundai Accent. Servicing my car is just as bad, with a run down waiting room the size of my bedroom. Scheduling a Valet appointment online results in no-shows, unanswered calls and texts, followed by an argument and a 1month time frame with phone-only scheduling.

If we had a standalone dealer here in SA, I'm sure we'd buy the GV80 we test drove this weekend for my wife. But, after another disappointing visit, I'm looking at leaving my lease soon in favor of something not Genesis at all.

Bought my GV70 here at the Santa Monica location - the one you visited/have pictures of is a smaller lot for now because it's actually temporary. The dealership owner (LACarGuy) is actually building a larger Genesis dealership down the street in place of an older VW lot. In the South Bay, they are scraping the old Lexus dealership and building the standalone South Bay Genesis, estimated completion end of this year. (AKA Spring 2022) - that one is a stones throw from my house.

Santa Monica Genesis was a fabulous non-Hyundai experience! Best car purchase I've had yet...

Sal...Did I miss something? I cannot see your list of Genesis-only dealerships. Neither of the two links in this message bring up a list....

There is no list of dealerships, he created this discussion so folks can post any they know of.

Genesis of Santa Rosa (California)

Interesting enough, Infiniti in Canada is allowing their franchisees to relocate to their Nissan dealership as many are losing $$ (one dealer said he was losing around $300k/yr).

But it seems that many won't take up Infiniti on that offer as retrofitting their Nissan store to include what Infiniti requires for the dual dealership would cost $4-6 million, so that would throwing even more $ away.

Right, but it also says a list will be maintained in first post. Not complaining (I don't feel I've earned the privilege -- yet ;) ) but it's confusing.

Here in Ottawa ON we have 1 Genesis dealer. It's next to a Hyundai dealer (there are 8 of those), I think it's their old showroom from years ago, they could fix it up more but I don't know their plans. Obviously service is going to be done at Hyundai, don't know whether they have separate techs or not. But technically it's a standalone showroom, and the 2 sales managers appear to sell only Genesis (so they seem to know their product). I think technically it's a stand-alone dealership with a presentation that feels more like a no-name used car dealer (but they get excused because no one else here is presenting Genesis better). Next nearest are 2 hours (Montreal) and 4 hours (Toronto). Those both seem to share an address with a Hyundai dealership, so maybe Ottawa is making more effort to distinguish (or maybe the others didn't have an abandoned building they could convert to a Genesis showroom :) ).

It makes total sense to me that multiple brands might share a service area, with or without dedicated techs. Reminds me a bit of the Smart cars that were sold and serviced through M-B dealers, seemed a bit extreme (though I guess Smart might claim they were premium in their class) but a dealer told me it was because M-B techs knew diesels, and Chrysler less so.

I have updated the first post with the Genesis dealerships I've been made aware of through this discussion. I will update it as new dealerships are mentioned.

Please keep political comments off this site. This is not the place for discussions that divide our community.

There is a brand new stand-alone Genesis dealership at 9530 Midlothian Turnpike in Bon Air (South Richmond), Virginia as of this past week. Formerly a combo Hyundai/Genesis dealership, the Pearson Hyundai sales, service and parts operations has moved west about two miles, leaving the old facility as a stand-alone Pearson Genesis (Genesis of South Richmond) dealership. Both locations are owned by the Pearson Signature Dealerships.

Naturally, both facilities are getting a bit of a facelift during this process and new vehicle stock seems quite low at both stores currently, said due to issues like chip shortages.

The former Pearson Infinity dealership that the Hyundai dealership now occupies at 11701 Midlothian Turnpike in Midlothian was sold to Hyman Brothers and it simply moved across the street.

In short, Pearson has added a stand-alone Genesis dealership, greatly improved its Hyundai dealership and unloaded an underperforming Infiniti dealership, all in one fell swoop.

Interesting too, it seems that the other Genesis Dealer on Broad Street in Richmond will be closing.

I went to the Midlothian one this morning for service, and they confirmed they will be a stand alone Genesis Dealer as you mentioned, but the one on Broad Street (different ownership group) will close since they were not willing to have Genesis in a separate building. Same thing happening to Genesis in Roanoke VA. As a new Genesis owner, I'm very happy they will have their own operation. Very pleased with service this morning, included a hand wash & vac. They offered the concierge/valet service as well, but it was actually such a quick visit, I opted to wait for it.

Interesting about the West Broad dealership not selling Genesis anymore. I continue to believe that Genesis is shooting themselves in the foot by shutting down decent combo dealerships.

The Midlothian TPK Pearson Genesis dealership is getting ready to put up the brand new Genesis signs outside. It should be any day now, I reckon. The Pearson dealership is right across the street from the Lexus dealer, so the location is good - at least it will be when they get some vehicles to sell given the industry shortage of new vehicles.
