  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Maybe I'm overlooking something very obvious, but I am stumped as to how to lock my car from the outside while the engine is running.

Is there a way to actually do that? Using the little lock button on the door (even pressing repeatedly) is creating a long beep from the car.

Using the key fob remote lock function is also producing a beep from the car.

Neither method actually locks the vehicle.

Is there a way to do that?

My use case is situations like this:

  • 100F+ weather here in TX
  • car parked in the sun in front of dry cleaners or convenience store
  • errand that takes a minute or less inside the store
  • turning off the car means that I need to:

  1. restart the seat ventilation function
  2. restart the auto-hold button
  3. restart the ECO mode selection
  4. restart the ACC
Any ideas?

Discussed many times and this is not possible. I miss that feature from my Altima

Yeah, it's annoying. I don't leave the car running but I can't leave the radio on for the passenger when I run into a store to buy something without leaving the doors unlocked.

Also, many, many states it's not legal to leave a car running and unattended so at least Hyundai has made it less convenient and IMO that is a good thing.

definitely one of my top risks for arrest is some arcane rule i doubt even a cop knows, much less wants to be bothered dealing with.

i also miss this feature from my altima. i guess one option is to turn the car off and lock as normal, and then immediately start it remotely with the phone app.

How about use the Blue-link remote start feature? That'l get you 10 minutes.

My experience with the BluLink remote start is that it only works about 50% of the time, and it's rather cumbersome in my opinion:

Half the time the Android App will not let me log in (I have "keep me logged in" activated). Then I have to hit the start icon, change the temperature setting to "on" in the next screen, and then enter my four digit code and then hit start again.

More often then not I will get a message a minute or so later telling me that the remote start function failed. Especially at the Austin airport, after returning from a flight and the car having sat in the sun for ours - so far without fail the remote start has never worked at AUS.

All I want is to lock my car with the engine running, that shouldn't be so hard. I can think of a lot of good use cases for that feature. I'd be OK if Hyundai decided to warn people what the engine is still running (beep, whatever). I should then have the ability to override the warning and lock the car.

And don't forget that Hyundai will charge you $99 (or whatever it is) a year for those 'features'
Exactly why I canceled it
