  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Long term owners: How many miles, what has broken, and are you satisfied with the car's reliability?

Since when is a 1 lb difference a cause to be concerned about. It is only a 3% difference which is meaningless.

I guess that's going to vary among others. Didn't mean to rile people, but that was just an aside of how happy I am with the car and only the last part of my original post.

But I disagree with you that 3% is meaningless. Necessary? Probably not. Of course being in NASCAR country I was raised to be as exact as possible with the set up of any piece of machinery just to ensure optimum performance. Tire pressure has won and lost races (and no, I'm not racing). As Ed mentioned (and others too), using a good quality tire air pressure gauge ensures a more exact pressure. Some may see it unnecessary and that's their right. I choose to be as close to exact as I can. Just my perspective.

We man never achieve perfection, but it is good practice to pursue it.

I agree!

Costco seems to be on point when topping off your tires. I've checked after the fact and the readouts are all good (then again, how accurate is a tire gauge bought on Amazon? :S)

Looking into buying CPO 2015 3.8 AWD Ultimate

So far after some searching I've read people having issues with the sunroof, the rear sunshade, and the headunit... that's about it.

Are there any 'known' issues these cars have that may or may not include those listed above?

Ultimately, I'm concerned about what's going to break, how expensive it is, and about how often you run into something that needs a dealer repair. How has your experience with been their service department in recent months? Do you always get a Genesis as a loaner?

I'm especially interested to hear from prior Lexus owners as to how the Genesis compares.

Thanks!

'15 CPO with Sig/Tech Packages. 52k miles. Not many issues but the issues I have had took awhile:

  • Backup camera needed replaced. Had the car for a total of 58 days before it was completely fixed. They replaced 3 head units, 3 cameras and a parking sensor unit only to find out it needed a longer cable in the trunk compartment. No expense out of my pocket.
  • Sunroof adjustment: $40.
  • Rear differential cover leak: replaced/fixed under warranty
  • Cold start w/rough idle: $260 for a top engine clean. Issue persisted. Replaced all injectors under warranty.

It's been reliable for be but a headache since I live in an area with one Hyundai dealership within 250 miles. I'd recommend getting the newest one you can afford. '16 would be ideal since the electronic warranty is bumped to 5/60k. Great car and eats up the miles. Good luck

Original owner of a 15 5.0 with about 95k miles. In order of frustration level/trips to shop:
Pano roof replaced twice - now seems ok (some creaking at -20 polar vortex - prob the glass)
Sun/Moon roof replaced 3x- now seems fixed
DTR Lights 6 burnouts - fixed
5 bent wheels and tires due to potholes
Light interior showing wear/loosing color on center arm rest
Minor paint chips
Occasional false proximity alerts - usually in heavy rain or snow or wind
Headlight beam throw is just too low despite adjustments -
Phone sync banner in display blocks out the rear camera view - resulted in one bumper

Question for you, would you buy another one?
If not, if you had to do it all over again, would you have chosen or preferred to deal with another vehicle/manufacturer?

The car is a pure joy to drive and I think looks better than any other perf sedan out there. I struggle monthly not to buy another. But my Parisian gray/ivory is not avail. The only upgrades I would like to have available on mine are :auto rear pass shades, rear heated seats, the cross traffic warning in the main display, and the leather gear selector knobb. And driver visible turn indicator lights in the mirrors. Oh and rear fog lamps. HUSA and my dealer have have comp’d and worked with me on all my issues to near satisfaction-and have left the option open to resolve any other issues. Ultimately yes I got annoyed w the number (close to 50) of trips to the shop. Initially I always got a Gen. The number of trips back always annoyed me - but I think more often than not that was lazy (not test driving) shop management. I would most likely go with a Hyundai- everyone has a beemer or Benz or ford/jag.

Almost 60(?)k miles on my '15 ultimate.

Some items I had done:
  • Infotaiment screen. It was replaced due to a blotch on it.
  • Moonroof assembly replaced due to creaking.
    • HD radio antenna had to be reseated right after that, though the dealer said it was probably was their fault while replacing the moonroof.
  • The '15 DRLs are the turn signal bulbs so those will be out of pocket replacements when they burn out (incandescent) and if you leave em on, will be pretty often. Its a wear item but they're fairly cheap though, ~15 bucks and the dealer will install them for free.
  • Driver and front passenger door rubber seals both had issues.
    • Driver side kept giving me an odd whistling at high speeds
    • Top part of the passenger seal near the pointy door corner was warped
  • My front genesis badge sticker (ha, sticker... it's the logo inside the wing) half wore off. Entire badge was replaced.
  • Windshield wiper washer tubes broke, had to be replaced
  • Bluelink went crazy for awhile saying ABS was tripped. Got 20 alerts in a month in Dec 2017. It just went away so not sure what happened...
  • Driver side keyless entry stopped working recently... the handle had to be replaced and repainted
I got the CPO extended warranty and the dealer tire protection. Since there are potholes galore, both paid for themselves. I know Hyundai has been improving quality but if you buy Korean, it's a no brainer, get the warranty, especially with all the electronics on the thing.

Edit: In terms of service, the dealer where I bought the car is decent but you have to go the extra mile into "proving" something is wrong. Unless it was something that was physically obvious and 100% happening all the time (ie, keyless entry, and washer tubes). I've had multiple dealers swear on their mother's grave that nothing is wrong with the car and its in tip top shape. I had to jump into the car with them to point out what was going on for more "subjective" repairs like sunroof creaking. There was a tire tread issue that I had to get the shop foreman involved but that was more of a tire issue vs car. and was replaced under the tire warranty

Don't count on getting a Genesis loaner unless you have a generous dealer. I usually get a random Hyundai car. Usually Sonata/Santa Fe (New Santa Fe is decent). I think I've gotten a Genesis loaner once? On the Hyundai branded ones, you can only get them if the dealer happens to have on rotating around their own loaner fleet.
I am having issues with sunroom creaking -- what was the resolution? I am 2nd owner and just got it a few months ago. less that 60k miles.

Full sun roof replacement.
Was there a significant cost for that, or was It covered under warranty? I am 2nd owner and 58k miles...

has that resolved the issue permenantly?

It's covered under warranty. Not sure if it's a permanent fix, though.

Right. I have had it replaced twice. Seems to last about 6-8 months depending on usage.

Sun Roof Questions... Is this "Creaking" very noticeable? Has anyone had water leak in? Has there been wind/air leak while driving? Is it likely that if one were to avoid opening it that it would remain solid? These posts regarding the need to have the sun roof replaced is definitely giving me cold feet about purchasing the used 2016 Genesis 3.8 I currently have under contract. I can change my mind without penalty. I will only have about two years and nearly 18,000 miles remaining on the factory warranty. I would truly appreciate more detail on the need to replace..

Get a CPO and extend the bumper-to-bumper warranty to 10 years 100,000 miles (or is it 120,000? Can't remember).

It's a great car but I'd be nervous owning one without a bumper-to-bumper warranty.

I just finished reading all 653 posts on the pano roof issue. I'm seriously considering getting out of my contract to purchase a 2016 Genesis. I hate to let it go being it's such a stunning looking vehicle.... But appears that Hyundai considers this a non fixable issue. If they would at least stand behind their product by issuing a 100,000 mile / 10 year warranty for the pano roof that would automatically apply to anyone who purchases one of these...

Mine occasionally creaks depending mostly on outside temperature.
This is a common issue with other brands too
that have a Panorama Roof. Won't stop me from keeping the car after warranty is up in August 2021.Never had any wind noise or leaks .
I turn the stereo up ;)!

I appreciate the feedback. Maybe it is something worth living with.....??

Like I said before, if it's a CPO car you can extend the bumper-to-bumper warranty to 10 years 100,000 miles (possibly 120,000).

I think the price of that warranty is somewhere around $1,500.
