  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Looking to buy a 5.0, have some questions

Ditto. Carplay is overrated crap
I was thinking the same thing. :)

I use Android Auto in my other car with an aftermarket Sony radio and really do not see why it is such a must have feature that a person would buy/prefer a downgraded Genesis model just to use it. The only Android Auto feature I like is the free google map traffic feature, which the Genesis stock premium navigation radio does not provide for free. But I can live without it.

I do not get the excessive fascination with Carplay/Android Auto.o_O

Don't know if there are any statistics and it would be difficult to prove. I made it home safely because I looked at the HUD instead of the speedometer.

It is a convenience. I especially like seeing the blind spot notification. Yes, I use it a lot, yes it is convenient, yes I'd miss it. Has it ever saved an accident? Nothing I can prove.

Exactly. It's something I didn't think I'd use much or care about, but now that it's there I'm thrilled to have it. The convenience and alerts alone make it more than useful and I'm sure adds to safer driving overall.

I agree. The obsession for what it provides in an already great system is minimal at best. Would be nice to have, but like most things it will get better with time and can look forward to it in my next Genny. 👊

I suppose it is human nature, to want what you cant have? I love my Genny the way it is ,no need to add anything or change anything.

Would you agree that the blind spot alert is more effective seen on the HUD than in the far outside of the mirror. If so then the HUD would provide an enhanced level of notification and thereby safety.

Absolutely. I always look there first. No need to glance over.

I find I use that a lot when contemplating a lane change when I'm not willing to take my eyes off the driver in front of me (heavy stop-n-go), which happens every single day I drive this car . I don't even need to focus on it, I can just see the orange icon in the windshield and know it's not an open spot next to me. No need to change focus or move my sight line. I'll likely never buy a car with out this feature again.

Without question this. Once you've driven with the HUD and notice the alerts which are shown at whatever corner of the vehicle is in proximity to another, it will change your entire perspective. As Chad said, I don't believe I'd get a car without it again. Hyundai did this right. 🏆

i agree. If I see the icon in my HUD I don’t even bother to check my mirror. I stop right there and wait until the icon disappears and then check my mirrors before changing lanes.

Add me to the list of not thinking I'd use the HUD. It's also super unimpressive the first time you see it with just the digital speed showing. For those who don't know/haven't seen one it has:
Digital speed, Lane line icons for lane keep assist status, Smart cruise distance setting, Lead car icon when SCC senses a car in front, (This is my favorite) when the car is actively slowing to follow the lead car the set speed shows up over the lead car icon!!!, Blind spot monitoring, FCW/AEB indicator when active, Volume adjustment, Audio mode change visual, Turn by turn nav directions that are excellent. I think that's it. The auto journos pretty much agree that this is the second best system on the market (to BMWs) and I absolutely love it now! (I even tilt my head when wearing polarized sunglasses to see stuff on the HUD vs glancing down at the cluster!)
To me AA/CP are super useful when travelling in a new area (where you likely flew in and got a rental car anyway) so while I absolutely love it when I travel, I absolutely don't miss it in my own 5.0 Ultimate. I'd rather utilize the slightly outdated nav and HUD integration (especially with the super smooth HD infotainment display.
Among other things, the adaptive suspension is great (praying it doesn't break) the power trunk is nice (especially for those who used to have an SUV with a power liftgate) and let's not forget about the illuminated sill plates. ;);)

Know what you mean about the adaptive suspension... It briefly told me to check twice in the last 7 months, but cleared itself in the next driving cycle. Both times, it was when the car was parked on a weirdly uneven surface.

Fingers crossed it's just electrical gremlins. These are the same Sachs dampers that are used in some German cars like the VW Golf R, so I think they're probably pretty solid. I have much more hope in these than if they were the continuously adaptive magnetorheological type that performance cars and GM use... (I don't know how much I'll miss mine if they break since I literally always drive in ECO mode... Lol!)

Hopefully - I haven't heard anything about them failing (yet)... I searched the 'net for about a week on anything about it before I bought the car & didn't come up with anything.
