  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am looking to become a Genesis owner and I was wondering if it would be better to shop for a used 2009, 2010 or wait for 2011? I am not sure if this matters but I usally drive my cars to a 100,000 miles. I definetly want the Tech package and AC Seat.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to give me your advice.

Hello Mike, welcome to the forum.

Not trying to be impolite, but if you do a search on this topic, there are tons of threads related to this. Just to let you know..

To answer your questions,
I think it's better to get the later MY(model year) most of the times, because they implement minor fixes or revisions as model year goes by.

We have no official words on the MY11 yet, other than the fact that there will be a minor cosmetic change(rear bumper for sure), and the possibility of 8-speed transmission and DI.

MY10 has a few additional features on the tech package such as;
- ACC(active cruise control)
- electronic parking brake w/ hold feature

and
- revised suspension
- smart blinker(turn signal), delayed turn-off headlights, etc.
on all trims.

Reportedly, Hyundai also tweaked the roof structure to add more rigidity to it.

If you're not in a hurry, it's a good idea to wait for the '11 to hit the showroom and see if you like it over the '10s.
Good luck!

Dan

I don't know anything about 2011 but, between the 2009 and the 2010, I would recommend the 2010 4.6 Tech hands down.

It comes with a revised suspension, Smart Cruise Control, Electronic parking break and Autohold and last but not least, the 3 blinks turn signal.

I would wait and get the 2011. Allegedly it will have an 8-speed transmission and potentially a direct-injection V8 engine.

I would definitely choose a 2010 over the 2009, there have been several subtle improvements between the 2010 and 2009, and that trend is likely to continue from 2010 to 2011

I own a 2009 and have no complaints. Yes, it would be nice to have some of the newer subtleties the 2010 and 2011 are going to have but I save some good cash when buying. If there are any 2009's left when the 2011's come out (Which might be rare) you could possibly save HUGE MONEY!

Not sure if money is a factor or not for you....

We bought a 2009 3.8, titanium gray, tinted windows, premium, tech package and KDM badges that was discounted 5K. It would have been nice to get a little better suspension but 5K is 5K. I look for places to go just so I can drive it.
A lot of car for the money. I agree that if money is not a big issue go for the 2011.

Yup, I agree with y'all.
I also bought the '09 in March 2010. Some dealers had '10s around, but the huge discount was too tempting.
But now that I think about it, it would've been nice to have the ACC, and revised suspension, plus some other subtle changes.
Money not being an issue, I'd go for the newer models for sure.
I mean, even at the '10 prices which is typically $2k~3k higher than '09 leftovers, it's still a bargain!

Thanks for all the great advice.....I dont know nearly as much as u guys do about the car but I sat in it, drove it and read about it and all seems real postive. I also know if u buy a year or 2 old model wirh some mile, the discount can be pretty good!

Did I read somewhere that the Navi was upgraded in one of the years?

There are two different kinds of Navigation systems in 2010. In 2009 there was only one kind with the the Tech Package.

I would go with the 2010 or later, regardless of when you purchase. There is nothing wrong with a 2 year old 2010 model (in late 2011), but unfortunately the same cannot be said about a 2 year old 2009 model in late 2010. Do some more reading on this forum.

Please note that the 10year/100,000mile powertrain warranty only applies to the first owner of the vehicle.
If you plan on keeping the car for a long time, I recommend you buy it new.
Just my $0.02

The bumper-to-bumper warranty which is 60,000 miles IS transferable to other owners however. Just FYI.
