  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

I have been looking at a 09 Genesis 3.8 for about 4 days now. It has 90k miles on it and the dealer is asking for $13,400. Is this a good price for this this car? I really like the look of the car but I am apprehensive about purchasing it. My main concern is will the car last?

Anyone have 100k+ yet? If so, how is it running?
Any major issues with the 09 Genesis 3.8?
How long do you plan on keeping it if is already over 100k?

I know 90k is not a lot of miles for most cars but I'm not familiar with Hyundai at all and don't know anyone with one. Please help me out by answering those questions and giving any other info you find useful.

Thanks,

Juice

I paid $17500 for my pristine '09 4.6/w tech with less than 50k miles... you may have some negotiating room.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
There are plenty of websites that will do an appraisal on a used car and will tell you the average retail, wholesale/trade-in, etc price, adjusted for mileage, features, condition, etc. Never pay the asking price for real estate or for a car. It is understood the price on these items is always negotiable.

Ideally you should not pay more than $500-$1000 above the wholesale price on a used car, depending on what the dealer had to do to make it saleable. This means you should pay significantly less than the dealer's asking price. If you find a website that shows the prices, then take that with you to the dealer as a negotiating tool.

Your success in negotiating will depend on how much research and effort you are willing to put into the task.

Thanks for the responses. Again my main concern is will the car last. Any answers for the questions below from the original post?

I am not a Genesis owner (yet) but have owned a lot of cars since the mid 70's. One thing I learned the hard way is never purchase a car with that many miles on it unless you can get a warranty.

I would pass if it were me. Kelly Blue Book rates that car between $10,409 to $11,714 as a trade in value before dealer mark up. If your set on buying it, then there sure is room to negotiate. Good luck...

Juiceman you may not find too many folks on here with 3.8 2009's >100k mi who are regular daily posters.

I recommend you pay the $20 to get a week access to hmaservice.com and run the telematics VIN history on that car to see the dealer service history.

Alternately you can pay $50-$100 to take it to a dealer and have them give it a full pre-purchase inspection, including brake fluid and HECU recall evaluations. A dealer service writer also has access to the same telematics info.
