If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Loose Leather on Driver Seat

Well.. Been wanting to post new pictures of the wrinkles showing back up on the drivers seat, passenger seat, and now one back seat. I take my engineers with me to clients many times, so the seats are used enough to show me that all the seats have a problem.

I keep getting the error message when uploading a picture here that says: "your administrator has not changed settings to allowTapTalk to upload photos." So, no photos like I did before using the same app on the iPhone.

Did they just replace the leather with a new one of the same design?

You know they call that insanity?

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Worse... They stretched the leather and added padding that was supposed not to interfere with the cooled seat. It cools, but airflow is diminished a bunch. I would have lived with it had the leather not stretch again and the padding is saggy like the last time.

I agree that there is a problem with the leather. I just don't see a need for them to replace my seat until they have a fix for it.

It seems this issue is more towards the premium leather that is on the Technology package. I have the premium package, and while on the driver seat you can see a "little" loose but no where near compared to some of these pictures. Sometimes when it's hot outside, it will go away too.

So I went in for the seat being mushy and leather all stretched out. I was getting down right uncomfortable, sitting in it too long. I mention to the service advisor, I have seen this issue on the forums, and many are having the seats and cushions replaced, under warranty.

His first response......

Don't believe everything you read on the internet.....

Second response.....

It would be the first time, in eleven years, I have seen a seat cushion replaced.

Forty minutes later, he calls me to the desk and says.....

No problem. We are ordering a new cushion for the car and will replace it under warranty.

Hey wait! Don't I get an award for being the first guy in eleven years, to get a set cushion replaced under warranty?

Don't get me wrong. I am very happy with the service and anticipate a new cushion, in the next week. But I would have appreciated not hearing the first two responses from the guy, up front.

Sure the internet is full of crap. But sometimes there is good, and helpful information out there......

Don't settle for crappy and uncomfortable seats. Get them fixed while you have the warranty.

This is really only a problem for those with cooled seats. The rest of us Plebeians not so much.

Well here it is guys.

Only 8 miles on the bottom cushion since my return home from the dealership this morning.

I honestly don't know if I want to live with it, deal with it, or just go to another dealership and get the entire seat replaced. I'm so burned out taking the Genny to the dealership for warranty work. I just want to enjoy my car. :(

My lease is up next summer just in time for the 2014/15 Genny. I was really planning on purchasing my car because I really do like it a lot but it's wearing me out. Don't know if I want to continue on with Hyundai or go elsewhere like SmooveC did when he went to Infinity.

Oh yeah SmoovC. Still waiting for that ride!:D

I have a 2013 Genesis 3.8 with both of the options. It has about 3500 miles now, but my driver seat cover looked exactly like yours when the car had only 2000 miles. The dealer has changed the seat, seat cover etc, but they all just don't fit snugly! Very bad design and quality control. I have reported the issue agai and will see what they will do now.

I had this issue (mainly with leather stretching) and the first dealer I went to said normal wear and tear. Not buying that, I went to a better dealer, and they replaced the cushion.

The soft leather is prone to stretching, but I think it's the cushion that is the root cause.

The new dealer is great!

hey guys,

So i went to a reputable upholstery shop in miami and got the cushion replaced.

The cushion actually has 3 holes on each side.

They put a new layer of cushion and cut off the appropriate holes, looks great and the cooled function is working perfectly.

If anyone in south Florida is looking at this, PM and ill send you the details of where i got it done.

My Genesis (2013 w/ Tech) doesn't have a seat problem. It has over 6000 miles on it, and the seat leather is as tight as a drum. (looks like new)

I have 1031 miles on my 2013 Genesis and the driver's seat leather is indeed stretching. I'll mention it to dealer and see how it looks in a couple thousand.

I assume, however, that I can always pay $$$$ to have a shop replace foam/leather as needed.

^Same exact issue at 6k miles or exactly one year.
Will mention at the next visit.

Dealer went ahead and ordered a new one. They said they would replace it once. I suspect the new seat may have similar issues but perhaps I'll get lucky with a tougher piece of leather.

I saw a tip on YouTube. Take towels and a microwave-safe tube of water. Heat them up in the microwave for 5 minutes. Lay the hot/wet towels on the leather. This shrinks up the leather a bit.

Wow, that was an awful mistake. To recap, I pointed out stretching leather after only 1300 miles to the service guy. He came back and said "we'll replace it". I was like "um, ok".

Well I went to pick up the car tonight and they botched it. Totally. Whatever they did made it look 10 times worse. I blew my lid and refused to pick up the car. So here I am at home with the loaner car wondering how they're going to fix the seat. I suspect that once the leather cover comes off, that there is no putting it back on in a way that makes it look new. Sigh.

I second the steam method, as I have tried this and it makes the seat like new for a few days. The trick seems to be, steam the seat and don't sit on it for a few hours and it will remember the unstretched state like memory foam. If you want to go all out I would use a cloths steamer, and gently go about steaming your seat.

Well I got my car back with the original leather cover back on. After telling them to clean all the dirt off of it, it looks like I dropped it off originally. That is, 1300 miles and there is definitely a bubble in the middle of the seat. But it is not nearly as bad at their attempt to put a new leather cover on (which looked terrible).

I'm going to forget about this for awhile.
