Loose Leather on Driver Seat

I had not heard that. My car is a 2013, and while I was happy with the seat as it was, it was starting to get the "loose look" in the first month. Not bad, but I definitely could see what others were talking about and really, what was it going to look like in 1-2 years???

Now the "repair" makes it look exactly like the passenger seat, like it did with 3 miles on it when I bought it, but a little "plusher".

If they replaced your seat with a new one, then I'd say my local dealer is right, all you get is another seat with the same issues.

The driver seat stretch & sag is because of the seat cooler as pointed out by my auto upholstery guy. I bought mine to have the foam replaced and he pointed out that it is due to the tunnels for the cooling unit. The fix is either eliminate the cooler altogether and replace with solid foam or not have as many and/or as big fan holes. He said if I go the Hyundai warranty route be prepared to swap the seat out every 20,000 miles. I am having Hyundai do this one until I am at plus 60,000 miles.

This effin thread... reminds me of any Gordon Ramsay show.... "Eets not PERFECT!!!"

GTFOI Gordon.

Flame on...

Forgive me if I offended you but after 11 pages I missed the part of identifying of problem? It happens to ALL seats by any manufacturer with cooling units. I noticed most all posts were tech packages or above (CLUE). This helps solve the issue maybe for someone with the skills that will share.
BTW I absolutely love my Genesis as I just got out of a miserable 4 years with a 2010 Equinox and dealing with GM service, never again!

It's not typical of seats with cooling. The BMW had it, no seat issue. MB and GM SUV I still have, no problem. Even the Avalon that was traded for the G with 90K miles on it had no problem with the driver's seat. Yes, it looked a little worn compared to the passenger seat, but the leather was not loose.

Hello all, new (used) genny owner here, love it! Anyhow, I work at an upholstery shop, and while that certainly doesn't mean I have all the answers, I may have a bit of insight..
First off, this issue certainly is NOT common of all ac seats. There are a few things that could cause this..

#1. Poor quality sew foam... the vent seats have a special ventilated foam (looks like a piece of black charcoal filter) that allows the air to pass through. This foam is inherently weaker than normal foam, and if not of a sufficient thickness or stiffness can give you this baggy look.

#2. Thin leather... leather is not of a sufficient thickness to maintain structural integrity, especially after being perforated. Leather is a natural product and made of fibers.. sitting on and stressing that can cause stretch. Although, if the perf. Holes are not stretched, this seems unlikely to be the case.

#3. Poor listings... it could be the actual listings in the seat or on the cover are pulling. Can't tell unless you see it torn apart.

#4. Poor workmanship... nothing more needs said, really.

It could be any one of these, and/or a combination of them. If it is ONLY the ac seats, id lean towards the first being AT LEAST involved.

Its unfair to compare these to several year old vehicles, as over time leather will shrink and confirm closer fitment. Let's look at the genesis in several years and see what happens (im NOT saying this is acceptable or normal!)

These very likely do not need replaced, actually, all things considered. Your dealer COULD use an industrial streamer to shrink the leather to fit (or contact a local shop to do so). bmw actually sets the freshly installed seats in a stream room to accomplish this at thier factory. Sunlight can accomplish a fairly similar result, although it takes much longer, and works not nearly as well! Anyway, hopefully this is of SOME help to someone, at least!

Btw- 09 3.8 owner here, no ac seat, seats look great minus normal wear for year and miles!

Anyone had more of that special foam inserted into your a/c seat?

That was a very detailed report Vistor. Thanks !!
I was about to have seat done by Teeters in Marin California. They do most seat rebuilds and have done three for me but after talking to Dealer decided to use warranty. Dealer replaced seat and did tell me the part number had changed indicating they know and are modifying the seat bottom. I just picked it up so it will be a bit before a report.

Raynman, which dealer replaced your seat? I'm in Sonoma with the same problem.

San Francisco Hyundai has a great service dept. I commute there so I drop off before work

My Genny is scheduled for next week to have the front driver/passenger seat cushions replaced. The dealer mentioned that this was the first time hearing about seat cushion problems and Hyundai has yet to classify this as a recall or malfunction. The seat cushions were ordered from Hyundai. Although everything is covered by warranty, the dealer expects the same problem to happen over time until Hyundai recognizes this as being a problem. My only concern is my interior, exterior is in immaculate condition, and sending the Genny to a specialized upholstery dealer increases the probability of something getting scratched. What should I do, get the seat swapped out and risk chances of something getting damaged, or keep existing and wait until the car experience more wear and tear?

Just had a dealer tell me the seat was normal (I do not have ventilated seats, btw). Not too happy. Will try another dealer.

Just print off some of the (Seat) Posts on the Forum...Hand them to the Service Manager - watch his face::

Yup this was mentioned and he just stated you can always find similar problems if you search the internet. Really? Doesn't that equate to a potential problem? Also he mentioned that not many Genesis were sold yet he refuse to look at any of them in his lot fear of finding the inevitable. Haha!

Hello fellow members, last week I dropped my Genny off at the dealer to get my seats replaced due to the stretch/cushion problems that Hyundai refused to take notice. The passenger seat was completely replaced due to the difficulty level of air bag sensors that are installed. However, the drive side was a different story, the service dept decided to take on this challenge by replacing just the cushion without involving an upholstery expert. The seat looks the same and I am not satisfied. Additionally, let me remind you, that the Genny was in immaculate conditions with fewer than 2500 miles with no scratches, or paint chips and the shine popped! Unfortunately, the service dept thought they were doing me a favor by having the car detailed to ensure that the car was returned in the same condition. I believe you all know where I am going with this; the so-called detailer ruined the paint by scratching the entire vehicle. There are now swirl marks, spider webs scratches and the like. I left the vehicle with the service manger and I will continue to drive the loaner until the driver side seat is in the same condition as the passenger and the paint finish is superb to my liking. Lesson learned never every let the dealers detail your vehicle regardless of the level of services performed. In addition, do not buy into we have a detailing shop that specializes in this type of service and your car will not be sent to the typical wash and dry bay.

Oh man, it hurts when I read what they did to your car. I don't let the dealer wash my car at all because they have high school kids who use the same dirty sponge for your wheels as they do for your shiny paint. Unfortunately, even when I asked not to have it done, the dealer washed my car once in the winter. Sure enough, after I had scratches from the dirty sponge on my black paint. Had to spend considerable time minimizing them and polishing them out with Scratch X 2.0. They are either not there anymore, or not enough to be noticeable with the wax I use.

My only suggestion is to find a detailer that is recommended in the area and tell your dealership that they will have to foot the few hundred dollar bill to have the paint corrected. It is labor intensive and a cheap place will not do a good job.

When ever I got to a dealership I see quite a bit of brand new scratched Genesis sedans from their crappy washing. Very noticeable on a sunny day.

Do what i do. Make yourself a sign that you put on the dash, windshield, etc. that says DO NOT WASH OR DETAIL CAR!!!

I also have them write on the work order the same.

Can this really be happening to me, check this out Hyundai enthusiast, I received a call from the dealer telling me what I thought was going to be your car is ready. However, the service manager started the conversation off with I received approval to also fix the leather on the drive side seat. I was not surprised with that since I mentioned in my previous posting how the passenger side looks new and the driver side looks the same. Then he dropped this on me, your front bumper was hit! The guys at the shop tried to state that is was already there and he also mention they asked if a buffer wheel was used on the Genny previously. I just started laughing loud! Good thing I had them sign a document stating the car was in immaculate condition without any scratches, swirls, dents or the like. Fortunately, the service manager was aware of the condition the car was in and now he is asking me how to go about resolving this anomaly? My wife is livid! Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Might want to get a regional rep involved. I wouldn't let them attempt to fix anything else given their previous efforts.
