I have a 2025 GV70 with 5,000 miles and the last 4-5 weeks I’ve had an intermittent (nearly daily) horrendous noise to my brakes when I’m in reverse only. It never happens when moving forward. It can happen in the middle of the day. It can happen after it sits a few hours or it can happen after sitting 5-10 minutes in rain or shine. The dealership says they can’t do anything as when they had it they couldn’t reproduce it. Although I have 100 videos of this. Thoughts? And how can I get the Genesis dealership to help me!

What are the conditions? Does the cross traffic alert go off? The couple of times I backed and cross traffic was present, the car would brake and yes, it did make some noise.

You say you have 100s of videos of it. did you show the service techs? What do they have in common? What are the conditions? Do you only get it backing to a street or will it happen in an open lot with nothing around?

Problems that the dealer cannot see are difficult to fix. Sort of like saying "my car is working perfectly, please fix it". It there a situation that does it all the time that you can set up for them to see?

It’s a screech like I’d think someone would get if their brakes are past needing to be done. It’s loud. It only happens in reverse. Never when moving forward. Nothing in my path (no person, object or traffic). My speed is very slow as I’m moving from a parking lot spot or driveway. Yes I did share a video.
- backing out of the garage at any point in the day, any weather conditions.
- I can drive to target on a sunshine day no humidity and park for 5-8 min for my pick up order and then back out of the parking spot and it screeches
- drive to my parents no issues on braking, stay for one hour and back out of their driveway and it screeches.

My 2024 w/ 3500 miles has been doing the same thing; took about 1K miles to start only in reverse, super loud squeak backing out of garage, my office etc.... only in reverse. Going in for service later this week & will report back

Yes please let me know! They have it again at the dealership by me and claim it’s “normal”

I had a similar problem with my 2023 GV70 at 2500km. Always in reverse after sitting in my garage overnight. Didn’t do it at any other time. The dealer had my vehicle overnight and verified the squeal. Work order says “remove front brake pads and chamfer sharp edges to prevent squeal condition.” Hasn’t happened since.
If they try to tell you it’s normal ask if there vehicle does it, if they say no tell them they better get in the shop for repair.

Sounds like you have a good dealer with good techs!

A follow up from yesterday's shop visit for squeaky brakes; my dealership Genesis of Mentor which is a handful of standalone Gen dealers in the US told me it's a known issue and they are working with corporate for a solution. Very common issue on the 24's; they added me to the list and hope to have a solution. I wanted to make a record of this in case something goes south later on. I guess that explanation is better than the standard "it's normal"

Genesis of Mentor has given me outstanding service. They'll take great care of you. They can't fix it until there's a solution discovered. Just touch base with them periodically if you don't hear from them first.

That is good to know! Thanks for the reply!

Just joined this group...
I have a 2025 GV70 that I purchased new in January 2025. I reported the backup squeaking several times during my first year of ownership. I was told that service techs could not duplicate the problem and alternatively that it would go away over time as the car was broken in. Right now I only have 2050 miles on the car and the squeaking has gotten progressively worse - wakes up the entire neighborhood each time I back out of the garage.
Wondering what you have done so far to resolve the issue.
Right now I'm working with Genesis Customer Service since my local dealership abruptly closed without notice and nearest dealer service is 100 miles away.

Anyone know if this is a problem on the 2026 GV70? I ask because I'm getting serious about getting one, but don't want this problem.

Seems like a one-off. Also unusual circumstances most of us will never see.

Absolutely a known problem with backup breaks that Genesis needs to take responsibility for. Too many complaints from owners on many online forums. Look at my string of messages here recently. My GV70 has had this problem for months and has less miles than yours. Finally, after multiple complaints, a recent servicing (scuffing of brake pads and "anti squeak" spray.. ??) has solved my car's issue for approximately one week now. Will let you know if it re-occurs.
Also check with your dealer regarding build date of your vehicle. There is an internal Genesis service bulletin which mandates a larger more complicated parts replacement (rotors and springs) for certain 2025 year GV70 models - if yours qualifies, the fix should have been done before car was offered for sale.
