In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Lowering a Genesis Sedan

Hi all,

I have a 2009 Genesis sedan with 20" rims and I'm interested in lowering the car a bit because it just looks like it needs it (especially in the rear). I've seen threads referring to the H&R springs but unfortunately even though many places list them in their online catalogs, nobody actually stocks them since they are apparently still under development.

I notice that in the specifications for the RkSport modified Genesis that it lists the car as having Eibach springs but Eibach doesn't actually make an application for the sedan, only the coupe. This leads me to wonder whether the springs were specially developed for the RkSport car or perhaps the coupe and sedan share the same springs.

Can anyone confirm whether or not the OEM part numbers for the springs on both the coupe and sedan are different and if the Eibach coupe springs would work on the sedan?

I've seen several sedans (RkSport, DUB magazine Genesis, Rides magazine Genesis etc.) that have been lowered so there must either be available springs for these cars or they are being custom lowered.

Thanks!

Suggest you call these folks who have lowered their Genesis. I have found that a direct phone call often is well received.

All the Dub cars have also installed Eibach Springs. From glancing at it, the V6 coupe suspension appears to be exactly the same as the V8 (and I haven't checked the V6 Sedan) suspension. I can call my contact at Eibach or RK Sport (since we're dealers for both) real quick on Monday.

@motorsportsauthority - That would be great. I think I remember reading somewhere on one of the sites that using the coupe springs on the sedan may work but since there has been no official testing, they aren't supported.

If both the RkSport and DUB cars are using Eibach then they must be using the coupe springs I would assume.

Thanks

That would be my guess. I have both vehicles (the V6 coupe) and the sedan at the shop. I just haven't had the time to take the coilovers off the Coupe and test fit them on the Sedan. First chance I get though...it's on.

Motorsports: You may not have to remove coilovers to compare. It is likely that part numbers are embossed/printed/labeled on the springs. This can confirm same part numbers.

In general, it seems to me you could just dyno the OEM springs, and then look for an aftermarket out of the box solution that offers similar rates but with a 1" shorter spring. You could even have a race shop build springs to your specs. No?

If Eibach has a set of springs that will work, I'd say from past experience that some Sports would be a good match on the sedan. They generally have a softer compression than OEM so they make cars a bit more compliant in daily driving.

Great idea, but my client has his factory springs, so they're not easily accessible to me at the moment.

Thanks for the replies guys!

@Sayantsi - I think some Sports would be a good choice as well. I've had them on other vehicles in the past.

@motorsportsauthority - If you can verify the part numbers or the fitment that would be great. I'm really interested in changing the stock springs out and this might be the answer.

OEM part numbers are different with the Genesis Sedan 3.8L, 4.6L, and Genesis Coupes.

I sent an email to RKSport regarding the Eibachs on their car and they responded that Eibach had to make the springs for them.

So far the closest thing I have to lowering the car is the H&R springs which currently don't have an actual release date on them.

Any luck finding out what the spring rates are for stock and Eibach?

No luck by me.

Eibach did make those specially for RK Sport. After talking with Eibach, they decided the market wasn't there for them, and they never put the springs into production.

Well this truly sucks!! I hope that H&R at least will release their springs soon. Their website lists them as new and everyone and their brother with an online shop lists them for sale but don't actually have them.

At least my new lip spoiler arrives today so I will have something to look forward to.

^ :D I'll check into H&R. My sales guy tells me that Tein also has them listed but only on their Korea site. So I'm having him check into that also.

Thanks for checking into this motorsportsauthority. Maybe some Tein S.Techs will work. Like you mention, I see them on the Korean site but not the U.S.

Keep us posted.

Ok...So Tein says that their Korean subsidiary is actually a separate company and have the rights to the springs. However, Tein USA is working on bringing those springs to the states. Stay tuned on it.

H&R made a limited run of these springs to put out on the market. According to H&R themselves, they will be producing these springs, but have not received their shipment yet. They anticipate a 2-3 month backorder/wait as of right now.

Thanks for the updates!

I wonder if it would be possible to get the Tein springs directly from the Korean subsidiary?

I guess a few months wait isn't so bad but once I get it in my mind to change something, I can't stand waiting. Maybe I should go up to 22" wheels.

LOL. It's worth a try. How good is your Korean? :D

And yeah...22's are in the plans for mine. I can't remember the tire size, but 22's with the sizes my wheel guy calculated were about .25" off of factory so there won't be a noticeable change in the speedometer. I think that was with 22x8.5 and 22x10 staggered fitment.
