Hi fellow genesis owners. I'm planning to purchase this exhaust kit to replace my existing factory exhaust system on my 2013 R-SPEC. Being a previous owner of the borla exhaust system, I'm very concerned with respect to the drone issues caused by the borla and probably the magnaflow system for the previous model. Can fellow owners provide feedback as to the sound and the drone issues in the cabin? I'm all about the the performance but not the drone.

I appreciate for your time and assessments. If you happen to have one installed and in northern virginia area, I would very much appreciate it to see a live demonstration :)

Sorry to hear about the Borla. I was planning to get one because the car is just too quiet when gunning it. I thought the drone was very low according to others. Interested to see how others feel about the system you're looking at.

I installed this cat-back system on my Rspec within the first month of ownership.

No issues with the dreaded drone as some call it. What you hear is a 5 liter V8 rumbling along at crazy low rpms due to a heavily overdriven transmission. The reward is the music you hear under acceleration and when the trans downshifts while coasting down.

IMO the best $ I've spent on any car.

Shop around for your best price. I paid a little south of $1,100.00 installed at my local Magnaflow dealer. I'm sure there are better deals to be had.

Check the parts for sale section in this forum. Some members are practically giving these systems away. Not sure why.

thanks for your reply. I am looking to buy a used one just in case it doesn't work out.

I had a Magnaflow on my 2012 RSpec. It droned - a lot.
Considered a Magnaflow, new version, which adds some resonators.

My opinion is that all Magnaflows drone; and drone is annoying and unacceptable.

Far cheaper and drone free is a custom exhaust replacing the central resonator and rear mufflers.
1. Replace central resonator with Magnaflow or Dynomax "X" resonators. I know the Magnaflow will fit.
2. Replace the rear mufflers with Dynomax VT mufflers. Use the 3" inlet model necked down. These mufflers are the "deal" - cheap and really reduce drone to a bare minimum. These mufflers are well engineered and reliable. Do Google them for reviews.
This combination passed the "wife test" - she didn't notice the noise change, except under hard acceleration.

i have the magnaflow catback and msa cat deletes. minimal "drone" as people call it. people are looking for a louder outside sound compared to quiet sound of stock, but then complain that they can hear it inside the car when cruising at low speeds. if you are looking for a more throaty sound and a roar when youfloor it, than a catback is a good choice especially since the new magnaflow systems come with resonators. installation was easy enough in the driveway, or easier if you have access to a lift. i would not consider removing mine till time to sell or trade in. hope this helps.

I have the Magnaflow system and there is absolutely no drone.

Mine were recently bought and did come with 2 resonators.

Which one did you use? Center inlet, offset? Do you know the part number?

I'm going to get the MSA X-Pipe and the secondary deletes, then have the mufflers piped up.

You must have received the only set that didn't or have lost your hearing. :)
Going uphill @ around 2500 rpms I thought I was getting a migraine.
And yes this is the revised version for the RSpec with 2 resonators.

This is one of the few responses from a Magnaflow owner that claims there is no drone. Just about every others users feedback I've read indicates otherwise. Not sure if its just a question of perception or if the system was improved over time.

any louder exhaust outside whether muffler or catback will be louder inside. you can modulate the rpms if need be by changing gear, as in when when traveling uphill for extended periods. if you just want to hear the exhaust when you want to hear it, go with the cutouts. these will have their own set of issues however.

It might be a question of definition, not perception or improvement of the Magnaflow exhaust system.

Drone can be defined as an unusual, harmonic resonance that causes unwanted vibrations or disturbingly loud sounds within the vehicle.

My car, with what I have on it, does not drone from the exhaust. It does make a deep sound when at idle. It does make some beautiful low tones at cruising that are audible within the cab. You can hear the exhaust within the cab.

All of this is expected with the type of exhaust installed.

The sounds are never overbearing or annoying in any way. My stereo on 10 drowns out any and all exhaust sounds under all types of conditions except "spirited" driving conditions.

Now, the CAI is another story all together. Under load, it does produce a growling, drone-like sound until the engine/transmission "catch up" :)

I just purchased the Magnaflow 15059 and plan to install on my 2012 4.6 Genesis tonight.
I got a great deal on the system from http://performancepeddlerwholesale.com
call the 1-800-470-1443 number on the website and choose option #1 to get the best price. I paid $900.00 including shipping and was told that I could share that price with members of this forum. They accept paypal. I ordered mine last Saturday afternoon and it arrived in Vermont on Wednesday. Very fast FedEx shipping!!
I plan to post before and after vids once installed.:D

Nice purchase. The price on the magnaflow for the 1st gen has increased a lot since it's introduction. When it 1st came out it was $532 with shipping from this same vendor. Either way, nice purchase.

I'm happy with the purchase. It was the best price I could find.:D
There is some drone at certain speeds and RPM's but not too bad. I usually just shift down a gear or two and it goes away. I can hear the R2C intake over the exhaust at WOT.
Here is a link to a after video I put on Youtube.

I haven't posted the before video yet.

Absolutely correct. Here's a tip I just figured out:

Putting an oil catch can in between the PCV valve and the intake has reduced the "growl" of the motor when lugging the motor (heavy throttle in a high gear at lower speeds). My intake noise has been reduced since installing mine.

Thanks for the tip! I've seen that in a previous post. I'll have to look into the details and see how to install one.

What's the specs of the exhaust is is 2.5 or 2.25 asking for a friend

I believe the stock exhaust is 2.25 inches. The Magnaflow is 2.5 inches.

You could save yourself some money and buy a 2.5 inch Magnaflow resonated x-pipe and 2 magnaflow racing mufflers. It will have a deep growl/rumble, and have no drone at any rpm.
