If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Does anyone have a good comparison between a stock factory exhaust system and a Magnaflow system? I'm looking at an opportunity to purchase a new 2011 Coupe Track that has a Magnaflow installed. I drove it today, and it drives very nicely, but the only thing I don't exactly like as well as the V6 Genesis sedan I have is the interior volume (better described as resonance) when hitting certain frequency ranges. I found that I hit these (gear-dependent--auto trans.) around 1800 rpm, and about 2200 rpm (hwy). I've reviewed both Magnaflow's website, as well as a number of other marketers of the product, and no one that I could find seems to have some of the info I'm looking for, specifically:

1. All tout increased HP.--How much? (Approximately)
2. Gas mileage--better or worse? By how much (approximately)?
3. Factory system better/worse than Magnaflow? Why? (I know it will be mostly opinion mixed with some facts, but that's what I'm looking for).
4. Magnaflow is a stainless steel system. What is the factory system made from?
5. In whatever market you're from, what would you expect to pay for an installed system (out w/the factory, in w/the MF)? Includes pipes, resonators, dual quad tips? I'm trying to compare what the dealer is suggesting they have in it.
6. Is there any (feasible) way to reduce the resonance and create (maybe as a side-effect) a deeper sound and change/remove the resonant drone of the exhaust as it's being expelled out the pipes? What approx. cost to do so?
7. Any other practical/useful info that I should know. I've been quoted a price based on the opportunity for the dealer to replace the system w/a factory one, that is, to remove the MF system. Good idea? I'm interested in your thoughts.

I'm going to make the purchase decision by Saturday (it's Thursday 8/18/11), so any info anyone can provide would be extremely helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Dan I think it might be difficult to rid the drone on almost any aftermarket performance exhaust. Don't get me wrong, there might be a $2,000 exhaust out there somewhere that is perfect, but I don't know of one. The factory exhaust is also stainless steel just like the MagnaFlow or Borla etc.

Even my MagnaFlow exhaust has a small amount of drone, but nothing that bothers me. I've even had people tell me that it's too quiet when in the vehicle with the windows down, but I know it's perfect for me just the way it is.

As for the install, it may be something you could do yourself if you like working on cars, the factory system bolts off and then the MF bolts right on....no welding. If you'd rather have it installed, then I wouldn't think an exhaust shop would charge more then $100. Get a few quotes.

I have a factory exhaust if you need one, I put a Borla on mine...... dealer charged me less than $40 labor.
The cabin resonance (not drone) on the Borla is noticable at very low rpms, but otherwise is a pleasure to hear/not hear.

Hey yuhaze:

The car I'm looking at already has a MagnaFlow system on it. The debate is whether to keep the MF system, or have the factory exhaust re-installed (an option the dealer is providing to me as a condition of sale).

Thanks for the input, just the same!

Hey Scott--

Thanks for the reply! The car I'm considering for purchase already has the MF system installed. The debate is whether to keep it, or have the factory system (a much quieter system) re-installed. The selling dealer is making the offer as a condition of the sale. For me, it's louder than I'm used to. I own a 3.8 V6 sedan, and it's really quiet. Previous cars I've owned (as an adult) were quiet as well. We won't discuss the AMC Javelin I had with the 'hush thrush' duals I had on it (great sound), or the various 'built' Vegas (Chevy products) which had a variety of mufflers (cherry bombs, etc.)! I would be trading the sedan for the Coupe. The sedan was damaged by hail storms in East TN where I live (you may have read about it in the paper).

Anyway, I really appreciate the input!

Well considering the Coupe is the more "sports car" compared to the sedan, the MF exhaust is maybe more appropriate on the coupe. Do you think you could get used to the noiser MF exhaust, or maybe get sick of it? If you can answer these questions, I think you'll know which route to go.

Happy fumes!

Thanks again for your input! And three cheers for the creativity on "Happy Fumes"!!

See ya!!

Update: Update: Update:

I made the deal on the new 2011 Genesis Coupe Track (a white one) with the Magnaflow exhaust system installed. I was happy with the final deal, which, after a conversation with the sales mgr., included the factory exhaust system (the actual pieces) to be given to me so that if I decide to change the system back at some point, that I can do so. I bought from Grayson Hyundai (sales rep: Jason Farris) again, and enjoyed yet another good buying experience.

I'm looking forward to getting to know my new Coupe and all the features it has to offer...and, realistically, learning how to figure out all the gadgets/software, etc.!

Thanks, guys, for your comments and input on my questions. This forum is a great place, isn't it??!!
