  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello everyone, I just bought a 2015 Genesis 3.8 Ultimate and loving it so far! I noticed that map version 12 is out now and was wondering if it is worth updating to version 12 for a 2015 ultimate owner. I'm pretty sure my car still has the maps that it originally came with so they're about 3 years or so old now.

Depends on what you do and where you go. The biggest change on updates is the POIs. I70 is still in the same location, Keystone Avenue has not moved. Unless there has been major road construction or you age going to a new housing development, you won't notice any changes. On a trip last February, I was looking for a Best Western hotel along the route. I plugged in in and the navigation took me to what is now Econo Lodge. On the way home, same thing, but it change just a week earlier so the latest map still does not have that change.

If you bought from a Hyundai dealer, get them to give you a one time update. If not, I'd not spend the money unless you do see changes where you go.

Nice ride though, hope you enjoy it.

Thank you for your response! I've only had the car for 5 days so not sure yet whether I need to update the POI's etc based on my usual area of driving. I can always use my phone for directions if needed. I was mostly asking whether the update will be worth it for speed, and other features that mine might be missing? If there aren't any significant improvements in features and/or speed, I won't be upgrading as $265 is a little ridiculous ($60 for 16gb SD card WTH lol)

Save your money. I see no difference in the way it works. I'd never update at that price. I was thinking more like $99 would be acceptable.

Yeah for $99 (reasonable) I probably would have pulled the trigger just in case. But at $265 I'm definitely not doing it without some major improvements! Thanks for the suggestions :)

I agree, for 100 bucks its doable the price they charge is just stupid.

I would also join the 100 club for an update. My maps are from when I got the car. Searching with bluelink (google) works great. If it going to a place that does not exist on the map, then I use my phone.

Really wish android auto was in the Ultimate...

Does anyone if they using the Here maps in North America or is it someone else's?

I have a 2015 Ultimate and upgraded original to version 10 when it came out. Biggest improvement was to the voice recognition software.

Good to know, while its not necessary to update every year, but its not bad to upgrade it every couple years, so it comes out to 60 bucks or so a year.

Does the map upgrade improve the voice recognition on the 2015 ultimate model?

Does the map upgrade improve the voice recognition on the 2015 ultimate model?

that site is hit or miss it seems, last time before 12 was out it said it improved voice recognition, and added POIs with birdseye view etc... but when 12 is out there is no real changelog of what is updated or not.

That may well be what dealer charges to do the update but from what I'm reading you can download, save to existing flash card and save $100.

Thanks for doing the homework and setting the record straight

I think its stupid we have to pay that much for a map upgrade. I wonder if anyone has posted a file link online to download for free... since it says you can just use your standard SD card that came with the car.

To puzzled: The Ultimate will never have Android Auto, I've been "up the ladder" to a VP on that one. Apparently the Ultimate has some quirks that their mass-produced versions don't have. As far as updates, I don't have the 12 on my 2015, but the one before (Map-105H91 Jog Dial Premium) did add 3D view which I really like, still doesn't have some of the newer POIs. If yours doesn't have the 3D view, then you know its never been updated.
