  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Map Version 12 is out

I think its stupid we have to pay that much for a map upgrade. I wonder if anyone has posted a file link online to download for free... since it says you can just use your standard SD card that came with the car.
Not yet but totally agree with you on free download haha

I got my update package yesterday, and noticed that the "manual” they included was for the 1G, rather than the 2015. The media was correctly for my 2015 Ultimate. Just a note of caution - the 1G manual called out a different version # than was installed by the media.

Could you let us know what this version is like for those of us still on the original version? So we know whether it is worth it to update or wait another year for the next version.

Comparing my original 2015 to my latest version of my 2018, there is not much change in the mapping at all. What does change is the POIs. Stores and restaurants come and go so if you use the navigation a lot for that, the update may be of more value. Since 2015, they have not moved I80 or I95 so directions are still pretty solid, but if you live where there is a lot of new housing with new streets, it may have those updates.

IMO, it is not something to spend a lot of money on if you are using it strictly for directions unless it is in areas where new interchanges have been added.

Following up …

1. I really like the 3D view
2. The data is more complete. For example, now, nearly all of the "sharp turn” signs are in the data. Previously, not so much
3. The menu GUI is changed, and I’m not sure if I like it or not.
4. The overall graphics are improved

Is it worth the $$$ ? For you to decide. I am satisfied

There's a free update to use Android Auto or Apple's equivalent. Surely that'll be updated for free and more often? I'm going that route.

Unfortunately for us 2015-2017 Ultimate owners, that isn't an option since we don't have AA or CP :(

"Available on all Hyundai Models equipped with 7-inch touchscreen, 8-inch touchscreen and 8-inch touchscreen Navigation systems. Both the 2015 and 2016 Genesis with 8-inch touchscreen navigation. "

You guys have a 9 inch I think?

Correct, we have the 9 inch one so that option is a no go for us!

I still envy the extra luxuries you guys have... So at least there's that! :)
Did Hyundai ever say if they'll roll it out for you guys in the Ultimate package? Would have expected them to take care of you lot first!

It’s not a simple rollout. It’s a hardware incompatibility. No workaround

You know what, I kinda call BS on Hyundai's part. All that Hyundai has said is the vague statement a "hardware incompatibility". However, if there is a known incompatibility, why not tell people what it is? That way, if they are not going to work on it, why not release the source and allow the community to try and come up with a solution. I know its something small, but when you buy the top of the line "loaded" model, its frustrating.

The Ultimate model is using a completely different hardware and OS for their head unit. It's MeeGo linux distribution running on an Intel Atom chip and is made by LG. On the lower end and all Hyundai cars, the head unit runs and Android fork on an ARM CPU apparently created by their own in-house development. It was easier for them to get AA and ACP on those systems.

At exactly what point they ran into a problem on the Ultimate HUs, nobody knows. It could be with LG, the CPU or the OS. I have never read anything on the actual problem anywhere.

Oh. And they probably can't release the source since they probably don't have it. MeeGo itself is open source, but the app most likely is under a more permissive BSD like license so it doesn't have to be open sourced. And since it was done by LG, Hyundai can't release it even if they wanted to.

Why they decided to go with different systems in the first place is anybody's guess. I had to give up HUD to get AA and I'm very happy with my choice, but I'd have preferred to have got both.

Yeah, I was really surprised to find out the underlying OS was MeeGo. I thought that died with some of the older Nokia smartphones phones. Now I understand about the BSD and GPL licenses and I'm just talking and not conveying my thought properly. What I'm trying to get at is Hyundai's failure to state specifically why they cannot provide a solution and what is it about the hardware that is making this difficult; what was done differently with the 2017/18 models with DIS that wasn't done with the 15/16.

But back to Map ver12...

I bought the updated map last year with Map ver11. The one where the send you a 32gig card to replace the stock 16gig. I just find it strange that you have to once again get ANOTHER 32gig card and a thumb drive to get these files. I was hoping that there would be a nice changelog to come along with it, but when I called MNSoft, the guy couldn't really tell me what changed.

Interesting! I've been thinking of getting it just because our place was built in 2016 and most of our area isn't on the map...but if it adds new streets and some of what you mentioned above that would be nice.

Can you post some pics as to what you mean?

Also, is the update any faster? I like how responsive the 9in system is, and is there any more sounds modes added like the 2018s?

Yeah. This is in the 2015 car. So the software must have been decided by 2013 or so. At least 2 years after Nokia killed it. So, no idea why they did that. I don't think the 2017 Ultimate models have AA/ACP either. I believe it's only this year's Ultimate model that has AA. I suspect that they simply switched over to the same OS and hardware architecture as the lower trims.
