  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Map Version 12 is out

Finally was able to do the download/install (took 3+ hours). Popped the SD card into my car, and the Genesis didn't like the update.

Did this happen to anyone else? I assume I'll have to do it again tonight 😵

I had to do it multiple times because I tried to do it on a different SD card because I was afraid I'd corrupt the original card. But eventually when I used the original card, it worked. But yeah, it's slow as molasses and I really have no idea why.

What error did you get?

I now have map version 8 in my 2015 ultimate, which does not have the 3D feature. Instead of buying version 12 from Mapnsoft for $219++, I'm considering buying someone's version 10 for around a hundred bucks. Does anyone know if simply swapping SD cards will work, or is there more to it? For instance I notice that the version 12 upgrade requires a USB drive along with a new SD card.
Thanks for your help.

I think the SD Card is just POI and street data along with an encryption key that allows it to work, the actual update is on the usb probably.

Can't believe I'm sporting Version 7! Would upgrade if the price were lower...can't justify $220 right now.

Weird. When I got home, I popped the card back into my computer and ran the app, and it pulled another (small) file down. NOW when I plug the card into my car, it started the update. Had to drive around for about a half hour while it did the install. Which upgraded me to v8.

But it DOES have the 3d feature. Of course, I live in Savannah, so there isn't much to 3D. Tomorrow I'll try out CarPlay...

Good morning.
I purchased the Version 12 upgrade right after it was released. I only upgrade maps every 3 years due to the price. When I purchases the SD card and USB dongle I found it easy to upgrade. The reason they supply a USB dongle as well as the SD card is because of the possibility that the UPGRADE function is grayed out as you start the upgrade process. That was the case for me as I had to the the USB dongle in order to progress through the update. I decided that due to the fact my drive home was about 70 minutes that I would start this in the parking lot at work and just let it complete as I drove home. I know this update was over $200 but it was easily done this way. If you get it done at a dealership they would have to either keep your car running through this process or they use a car charger. I believe that anyone who reads the instructions can do this themselves without issue. The update took about 40 minutes to complete and you can watch the progress bar as you drive home. NOTE: in the beginning of this ordeal it looks like the progress bar takes forever to climb but it goes faster about halfway through the process.

I'm on version 7 still, looks like its time.

Dumb question...does anyone know what this is:
96554-B1571 - Hyundai Parts Deal

I got a 30% off coupon from Hyundai Parts Deal. It looks to be the navigation equipment. At $165.48...

Getting my head unit replaced so that Blue Link works. Do you think I'll have v12 on the new unit? Or will it be back to v7 and no Car Play? :p

The map is not part of the head unit. It is on an SD card and usually the old one is fit into the new head. Ask the dealer about an upgrade. No idea about ACP but they should be able to put it in for you.

Ah. Good point. It's probably all on the SD card. Well, I upgraded to ACP, so I have the v8 maps. The dealer will be happy to upgrade my maps for the low, low price of $400.

In this day and age, anything over $50 for a map upgrade is just insane. They can keep it.

I agree. It's a total money grab for dealers. I can buy 4 portable GPS units that INCLUDE lifetime maps for $400.

They are now free for 3 years. Hard to charge a lot of money when Garmin includes them in a modest priced portable. Sure, there is some real cost but not what car makers have been asking. Mostly POI updates anyway, roads don't move that often.

As far as I know, my 2015 doesn't offer 3 years of free updates....or does it?
