  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Map Version 12 is out

As far as I know, my 2015 doesn't offer 3 years of free updates....or does it?
No, that started in 17 or 18. What version do you have? I don't think my old SD card will work with yours though.

I called their Map folks and they said my map is the original one that came with the car. Probably a 2014 map set up.

As for SD card. I think as long as it's the card that Hyundai uses it should work. I think that goes for the 2015 and 2016?

I love Android Auto which is similar to Apple Carplay, however I am screwed because my 2015 have the larger 9.2 HD navigation screen which is not Android Auto/Carplay compatible. Therefore , i have to upgrade for newer maps and features.

I felt like I was missing out on carplay until I had a '18 G80 loaner with the tech package. HATE not having the knob, the smaller screen/UI is meh, and it must have a different processor as it seemed super SLOW. Backup camera takes forever to load and would go black intermittently, adjusting the volume or temp would make the values 'jump' on the screen (instead of smoothly scrolling through like on the 9.2), and I find the nav system in the 9.2 to be great. Like how it plays nav guidance through one speaker instead of shutting everything competely off like carplay does when nav is talking. And directions in the HUD is super convenient too.

I knew I wanted the control knob and the matte wood but having the loaner for a week really cemented that for me. I would much rather have the extras and forego carplay. Carplay would be super great on antiquated systems (like the GX460 we're looking at for my wife, or my in-laws Yukon) but I feel the 9.2 is still very up to date and easy to use. No regrets.

I agree. It's a total money grab for dealers. I can buy 4 portable GPS units that INCLUDE lifetime maps for $400.

To be fair, the update itself is about $170, but they probably have to do the same process (3 hour download & 1 hour install, while the car is "on") so there's a time element, and it's taking up garage space. The service guy even said "You should just do it yourself"

I have the 2016 Tech Package with Android Auto. Can't comment on CarPlay. But your experience doesn't reflect mine whatsoever. Something must be off. Backup Camera is instant. Adjusting volume and temp is smooth. I don't know what the navigation on 9.2 is. But the one on mine is just plain sorry compared to Google Maps and Waze.

HUD is very good and it would have been superb. But between that and AA, it wasn't even close.

If you do get to drive a loner again, try restarting the phone. Sometimes, if it gets really sluggish, it may just need to clear out the memory. Never had to do it on the Genesis. But I have had to do it a couple of times on rentals.

Yeah I believe nav in the 8" is like other Hyundais. 9.2 is completely different

9.2

What's that b logo on the disc button? Do the Sonatas now play Bluray discs?

Bluetooth logo

oops! That's what I meant. :)

Darn, got my hopes up. Was looking forward to playing Bluray Audio in my next car... lol

Well, ordered the 12.5 update last Friday. MnS made a error and had it available as download, paid 145 turned out its not, so they are sending me the update media at no extra cost. Will let ya'll know once I do the update, hope I don't brick my system. I have the original 7.4 or something like that.

Did the update last night went smooth, got the text feature now which is kinda cool where it reads the texts and shows who texted. 3D map is kind cool too.

Hold up... So the car reads your texts aloud now after the update? What sorcery is this you speak of!

Yea, I didn't realize it added that as well, their update list wasn't clear, but yes when a text come in it pops up on screen who it is you can view, read or clear. But one caveat is that it only reads when driving, does not show the text unless your parked.

Also, it turns down the volume on the music when you put it in Reverse. I don't think this happened before.

Just got the latest 12.5 installed. So far so good aside from what I'm assuming is a missed setting. Previously when I would use the jog dial to change stations on XM it would click right through with the turn. Now I need to spin it then press down to select the station. Not a big deal just less convenient when trying to find something to listen too. Anyone know how to fix that?

My 2015 was just a turn, the 2018 was turn and push from day one. Yes, it is less convenient.
