Market Adjustment is Back!!!!

Went to check out the Genesis today at a local dealership here in Atlanta and was told about a $1,500 market adjustment because of the popularity of the Genesis. I literally laughed out loud and told the salesperson that I would never pay a market adjustment. I was surprised to look at the sticker on the window and they actually handwrote "Market Adjustment-$1,500" on the sticker!!!! I told the guy that I will just wait until November/December when I know they will be begging for buyers!!

$5,000 on Towne Hyundai(if I remember correctly) of New Jersey as well, as someone posted before. Surely, though Hyundai should see this and do something about it, since it make the Genesis in those dealers just rot in the showrooms without moving.

Well, one of two things are going to happen. Someone is going to buy the car with the market adjustment attached - or nobody will, the price will come down, and it'll sell without it. They may lose some customers (bad), but they may make some quick money off anxious customers (half good/half bad).

This operator http://www.fitzmall.com/default.asp is both in Florida and mid-Atlantic. Following is a clip from their website showing Florida cars and their internet pricing. You East Coast FL guys need to remind your dealers it's not that far a drive to the Gulf Coast.

This is not the dealer I'm using for my car, but my guy is honoring these prices. And NO, mine did not come in yesterday as promised.

It's called supply and demand... so long as there is competition within driving distance and an adequate supply on lots the additional mark-up will disappear.

I didn't even think about that.. So the Genesis with a V8 and Technology package is going to run $47,000.00 plus tax... At least for awhile.. Interesting...

Update: Went back to the same dealership and saw that they added "Appearance Package" for $495 and "Protection Package" at $995. Add those to the $1,500 "Market Adjustment" and you have a total of $38,990 for the Premium Plus Package---that is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm, they never learn. Only remedy will be for the customers to NOT buy a car from them, then they will slowly learn when their Genesis rots in their showroom without any sales. It's ridiculous.

Saw an internet add for a local dealer (Costa Mesa) which had a 4,000 discount (28,997) on a base Genesis (2 at this price, which according to their on-line inventory was both of their base models, total of 6 cars). Not sure if because we (in Orange County, CA) have been getting more cars and earlier than the rest of the country (I have seen three dealers within a 15 mile radius that had 32, 20 and 12 cars, and that doesn't include this one), that maybe we are starting to see a willingness on the dealers part to fall back into discount mode.

I've suspected all along, that the "Market Adjustment" exists, just so that buyers like us will come in and say, "well I'm not paying anything over sticker", and then we've lost our bargaining power and the dealer is getting full price for the car. It's kind of like when I was a kid listening to my stereo at 6 and having my mom strongly suggest I turn it down, at which point I blast it up to 10 then back down to 6.

It will be interesting to see what happens after the official roll out and the V-8's hit the floors however.

one dealer here in MD had a market but actually gave you something for it. They added $695 for that 5 year paint sealer thing, not sure what that was, but it gave you a guarantee that if the paint chipped they would fix it for free. Another added feature was Low-Jack for another $695. At least they are giving you something for the added extra features. I thought was a good thought.

The is a dealer in Dallas that has added $599 for Nitrogen in the tires!

I went to the Costa Mesa dealer that was advertising the $4,000 discount on the base model. They had a tech package Black on Black. Asked if they were dealing, and to my surpise he said yes. Said when they first got them they put a $4K markup, but now just want to move the cars into the market.

I said how much room in the price, and all he'd say was that I'd be surprised.

Maybe the end of market adjustment??

How little. They had two base ones that they were going to let go fo 28997 (even if this is pre $750 destination charge, lowest price I've seen). He wouldn't come out and say if they would do a similar $3-4K off the tech package and I didn't push it as I really am waiting to see the V8 before I decide.

I test drove both the 6 and the 8 at last weekend's Discovery event in D.C. Loved 'em both but will certainly be ordering the V-8. There is a bit of a difference in the leathers too. My wife prefers the softer touch of the 8.

In last weekends's Baltimore Sun there's an ad from Antwerpen Hyndai listing a MSRP discount of $4,951. It also states (if you fit the bill) amilitary discount of $500 amd a college discount of $400. This is GREAT pricing IF TRUE.
