I'm not sure if this has happened to anyone elsewhere in the world, but an update was rolled out in Europe last week,
and it's caused some annoying issues, which have been discussed on the GV60 UK Facebook group:

CarPlay works only one third of the time — Used to work every time flawlessly until this update came out
Keyless Entry hiccups — Leave the car parked for half an hour, and you have to either dig the fob out of the pocket and push the Unlock button, or open the My Genesis app to unlock the doors

Vehicle software: 24.11.1
Infotainment software: JW.EUR.ccIC.001.029.260311

I wonder if anyone else has encountered these issues.
If so, where in the world are you?

I'm in the U.S. Each time I wash my car, right afterwards, the keyless entry does not work for 24 to 48 hours and I have to use the key fob or the app to unlock the door. For some reason water on the car door or sensor on the handle makes this temporary malfunction happen each time.

I wash my gv60 once or twice a week and never had issue.
Does it also happen to you after a strong rain?

The car has not been in a strong rain, but the issue keeps happening after each car wash. Just another quirk of the car.

I would actually welcome that feature, if it’s true. Keyless entry is a big security vulnerability for electronic car thefts. So if it is auto disabling itself after a while, that is a big positive in my books. I always defeat the keyless by holding both lock and unlock buttons on the fob for a few seconds when locking (until the fob led blinks briefly). Maybe I don’t need to now after this update? I’ll have to try it sometime.

Re the wireless CarPlay, since the update I’ve seen no connection issues (at least no worse than it was prior to the update. I’ve always had occasional random total loss of CarPlay). However, I have totally lost the turn by turn instructions in the head up display, when using Google maps nav. It definitely used to work ok. Peter.

I think two separate systems are getting mixed up here.

The relay-attack vulnerability you're describing belongs to the traditional RF key fob. That's the one thieves can amplify and relay from outside your home. Your lock-and-unlock trick helps with that, though it does different things depending on the car. The version that puts the fob in transport mode is a Toyota and Lexus feature. On a Genesis the same combo should the door handle touch sensors, mostly so the car doesn't lock itself in a car wash. If somebody boosts your RF key signal next to your car, they'll be able to unlock it anyway.

Apple CarKey is an entirely different thing. It runs passive entry over ultra-wideband with secure ranging, which measures real time-of-flight distance. Relaying that signal adds latency the car can detect, so the relay attack is pointless here. CarKey's more resistant to electronic theft than your physical fob, not less. The "auto disables after a while" idea isn't the security win you're thinking of.

On the HUD: that's a Google Maps limitation, not the update. Google's support for the instrument cluster and head-up display has always been patchy and breaks across versions. Apple Maps feeds the HUD reliably, so that's the workaround if the turn-by-turn there matters to you.

I was not referring to the relay attack system. I was referring to the recent breed of unlocking devices sold by unscrupulous operators in Eastern Europe. They are usually a reworked game boy computer.
They are far worse than the relay theft system as they do not need to engage with the owners fob transponder at all! They utilise the keyless entry system. The user simply enters the car make and model. Then presses a button and the car is opened. Disabling keyless entry should prevent this happening.

Relay theft can be prevented using faraday bags etc. but that has no effect on the game boy style devices. Peter

Ah, I stand corrected. That's a much more sophisticated attack. At this rate we should all go back to driving a manual.

Exactly the same by me. i wonder if they removed the google HUD on purpose or by accident…
In either case, shame on them!

The HUD navigation display works very well with Apple Maps. Just ditch Google and you'll be good to go!

Does it work if it is connected via usb cable?

Thanks, but frankly I prefer Google maps. I can live without the HUD nav if I have to. Maybe one day the Google HUD nav will return? Peter.

If you haven't tried Apple Maps lately, you might give it a shot. I used Google Maps for over a decade, but switched to Apple Maps about 4-5 years ago. It's much better than it was a decade ago, and I definitely prefer it over Google Maps now.

Apparently Genesis’s navigation is same as google maps - just white labelled. That’s what a manager at a Genesis showroom told me

I wouldn’t trust hardly anything a salesman in any dealership says tbh. They tend to mostly make it all up as they go along. I just asked AI and got this which seems plausible….

“Genesis vehicles use TomTom mapping and real-time traffic for their core built-in navigation system. Additionally, the system leverages Google Places to provide detailed point-of-interest data (such as business hours, ratings, and contact info). [1, 2]
If you prefer to use a different mapping system, all modern Genesis models support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing you to project Google Maps or Waze directly onto the car’s infotainment screen. [1, 2, 3, 4]”

Peter.

Well my Google maps CarPlay HUD nav prompts returned as if by magic a few weeks back 😀.
However it still has the roundabout bug which always depicts turn first sharp left (no matter which roundabout exit you need. Peter.

yes, same issue for me (UK). Was not working at all for 1 week or so. Now 75% of the time. It was 100% working pre May upgrade.
