Any attempt to polish would only do more damage.Take that to a detailer; that may be able to buff out.

That I don't have an answer for. I've seen much more obvious mistakes get through production. Back in the late 1990's, during my times at a Jeep dealership, we took delivery of a new Grand Cherokee Limited. Somewhere on this forum is a post by someone with a black interior who somehow got one interior door panel in the light grey.
