Memory for seat, side mirrors and steering wheel

I can't seem to get all three of these into memory though I have read the manual carefully.

When I press start the steering wheel goes into place. If I press 1 on the memory the seat moves into place, but I thought this was supposed to happen when I pressed the start button. Any ideas?

there is a explicit setting in car settings for seat/steering easy access. And about the memory, it is independent of the last setting you left the car at

If "Seat Easy Access" is enabled in the vehicle settings menu (available on Tech packages via the DIS knob, on non-Tech cars it takes a dealer tool to access the variables) then the seat should self-move backwards when you shut the engine off. And it'll return to the previous position (not necessarily memory #1 position) when the car is turned back ON... unless you "interrupt" the movement by shifting out of Park or using one of the seat movement buttons yourself.

If the seat does not move back on its own (when you shut the engine off) then "Seat Easy Access" isn't ON in your car - and the seat isn't going to move anywhere when you restart the car... until you command it to move by pressing button 1 or 2 or using the seat controls yourself.

Mike, thanks for the reply. I took my 2010 Genesis in for normal service this week and raised this question with the service manager. He told me that my particular car did not come through with this feature!

Is there anything I can do to correct this problem? Where is the "Seat Easy Access" computer control?

There is a "Power Seat Module" (PSM) computer tied into the car's CANbus network. The PSM is part of the Integrated Memory System (IMS) which is the memory that remebers your seat positions, steering wheel position, mirrors, etc. IMS looks like it's located in the central tunnel - roughly between the center armrest/storage area and the shift lever. The IMS "tells" modules installed in the front seat when to "set" either memory or "replay" the seat to a stored position... there are a lot of electronic boxes scattered about a Genesis sedan. The factory manuals are not particularly clear on what function/features are physically implemented in each box, nor where the command signals originate. Including how the DIS "system" menu settings (which is where the seat easy access ON/OFF setting lives on Tech package cars) get to the modules.

When you put the transmission into Park and shut the engine off... what happens to the steering wheel, seat positions, etc? With "steering wheel easy access ON" the steering wheel tilts UP (but not in/out - no telescope change) and "seat easy access ON" makes the driver seat move rearwards. Does your car do either of these? Easy access ON or OFF can be set for the steering and seat individually - you could have either one, neither, or both move for example when the engine is turned OFF.

Then, when you get into the car and press START, the motions should reverse. The seat should move back to wherever it was when you shut the engine OFF - not necessarily to memory position 1 or 2 for example. If you move the shift lever before the seat finishes moving, the seat will stop instantly - and that'll become the new remembered position. Same for the steering wheel tilt... so let them finish moving before shifting out of park.

So exactly what does your car do when you shut it off... and what does it do when you re-START it? And is it a "Tech" package car?

The ON/OFF settings for seat and steering wheel can be set by the dealer's service computer for non-Tech cars. It's part of the "variant" settings in the service computer's menus. For Tech cars, these settings are stored in the "DIS" (Driver Information System) head unit which is the "master" part of the stereo+Nav system; it's the part with the CD/DVD changer.

Thanks, Mike for your thorough reply. I bought the car with 4100 miles on it and I don't know what packages (if any) it has. When I press start the steering wheel comes down; the seat doesn't move. When I press stop the wheel goes up, the seat does nothing. However when I press seat #1, the seat does move forward.

Are you saying that even if I don't have the tech package the dealer can fix the easy access seat to get it to move with the steering wheel?

If your car has a tech pkg then you have a round knob just in front of the center armrest. All settings for the car start on page 270 of your DIS manual. To be totally happy with your Genesis you should read and study all the manuals. There is a car manual and a Navigetion DIS system manual. Each is several hundred pages, Take your time and study then test out features using the manuals while sitting in your driveway. You will be much happier in the long run. BTW we have our steering wheel set to move out of the way when the car is turned off but not the seat. Its all in the settings as outlined in the DIS system manual.

From the 2009 sales brochure, some things that separate the various options packages... let's figure out what your car is:
1) base V6 model
Base package V6 models have 17 inch rims, 7 speaker stereo system with XM, iPod, USB capability, heated front seats.

2) Premium Package
Everything in the base package plus Lexicon 15 speaker stereo, in-dash 6-disk CD changer, Integrated Memory System (1/2 seat/steering button memories... so you have at least this package), power tilt & telescoping steering wheel, power sunroof, rear window power shade, rain-sensing windshield wipers (with those odd sensors between the windshield and rear-view mirror), auto-defogging front windshield.

3) Premium Plus Package
Premium Package with 18 inch "hyper Silver Euroflange" wheels.

4) Technology Package
Lexicon 17 speaker stereo system with in-dash nav screen and DVD player, the 6-disk changer is CD and DVD capable, auto-leveling HID headlights, Adaptive Front Lighting System (got an AFLS ON/OFF button on the dash to the left of the steering column?), rear backup camera, heated front seats, cooled driver seat, and the round knob "multimedia controller" aka "DIS knob" in the center console area.

I thought so. It should be a setting with their GDS tool. On Tech package cars, either the GDS tool or the car's own DIS knob can turn easy access ON/OFF for the steering and seat in the "variant" menus. Looking through the service manuals, I don't see any specific mention of easy access settings for non-Tech cars so maybe there isn't such an option. I thought others had posted though they'd had this changed by their dealer on non-Tech cars. The service manuals that I have are over a year old now; and I know they are missing a lot of info. Time to re-download them I guess...

On my non-tech 09 the dealer said they couldn't shut off "easy-access" on the steering wheel.

I wanted it shut off, since the wheel never returns to the correct spot. From what I can tell my seat doesn't have any "easy-access" function, but maybe I don't notice any because I keep it all the way back anyway.
