If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

metallic screech when I back out in morning while turning wheel, NOT BRAKES

Guys,

I was driving today and all of a sudden this screeching noise from my front wheel started. It was pretty loud. Almost sounded like my wheels were falling off?

so i stopped and looked and everything looked okay. So i get back in and start driving and it was still there for a few minutes and then it was gone.

so my question is how often do you get rocks stuck in your wheels that makes this sort of noise? i know one of you faced this before. How long did it last? How loud was it ?

I am just trying to figure out if i should take it to the dearlership or just ignore it, if it was just a stone.

thanks

I haven't had it occur on my Genesis yet (6 months) but it happend once in 65k miles on my BMW. Didn't last long (just that single drive) but scared me quite a bit. I'm sure it was a stone in the wheels/caliper/pad/etc as it never happened again.

The original post for this thread was for something different - mine has not happened in several months now . . thinking it was the parking brake settling in.

My bad for posting this question, didn't want to start a new thread as i thought this question might be relevant.

maybe i should start one, as i live in a place where we have have a lot of snow and we use a lot of sand. I am sure folks have had this issue. If not, maybe i should get mine checked out.

I took my 2011 Genesis (with electronic parking brake and the hold feature) in to the dealer at 4500 miles. At first he said that he could not duplicate the problem. As I was backing out of the parking spot they had placed the car in the squeal could and was heard inside the building and the maintenance adviser
came out asking, "Was that you?" He said that there was no sign of brake glaze, or other problems, and to let him know if it is still doing when I bring it in for my oil change.

It's still doing it and I'm not waiting for the oil change. I'm taking it to another dealer and see what they have to say. I think that it is a parking brake adjustment, but I'm just a shade tree mechanic, with a car that is still under warranty for the next 96, 000 miles or so.:(

mine is having the same noise issue sporadically. It happens mostly when the car is parked outside overnight (and not in a garage) and when it's humid. The screeching sound it makes wakes up all my neighbors for sure :o
Not a big problem for me, but still wish there is a fix for this available.

see my 2/23 post. I had the same problem and Hyundai corporate said it was the emergency brake shoes.
I had them replaced and the noise disappeared.

I am glad to see this post, and more importantly, to see the fix for it. I have less than 4k miles on mine and it's had the squealing the whole time. Only in the mornings when it's been parked outside overnight and while reversing.

 As I said in my last post, I took the information about the emergency brake to the Service Department. The Service Manager somehow managed to check the rotors (I say somehow, because I have wheel locks and forgot to give him the key) and discovered that the rear rotors were glazed. This happen in less than a 1000 miles. He said that he had to contact Hyundai to get the ok to resurface them, it took two days to get the ok, and then he did it. This did not solve the problem.

 Now he wants me to leave the car overnight so that he can try to hear the noise. Did I mention that the original SM went back over to the Nissan side of the business. When I asked why he didn't just contact Hyundai to replace the emergency brake, he said that he couldn't just replace parts in a hit or miss fashion.

 My next move is to contact Hyundai for the SM. Needless to say, I am not happy about the possibility of being without my car for one night and half a day (at least) just so that he can listen for a noise that has already been identified by one of his co-service managers, numerous Genesis owners, other service departments and at least one district representative, who solved the problem. By the way, I live in San Antonio, Texas and getting around really needs a car.

Will keep you informed.:)

Sounds like they are wasting your time.
The fix suggested by Hyundai corporate is the emergency brake shoes not the emergency brake.
Ask them to call Holler Hyundai of Winter Park, Florida (407) 645-4969) and ask to speak to Kerry, lead service advisor. He is aware of the Genesis metallic screech problem and the emergency brake shoes fix suggested by Hyundai corporate.

lol...it's a small world after all ....everyone sing along :)....too funny.

Kerry is great, one of the nicest people I have met working for a car dealership. I was having the exact same issue, there is actually a TSB (technical service bulletin) for this problem. It has to deal with the parking brake/auto hold feature. If you have ever used this in your vehicle, even once then you can have this horrible squealing noise occur. While it is mainly heard when your car is in reverse it can occasionally be heard lightly if your pulling up to a stop sign/light. They replaced the brake pads under warranty and I have not had this problem again. It has nothing to do with rocks or anything being caught up in the brakes.

Holler Hyundai of Winter Park goes out of their way to take care of you and your vehicle, their service advisers and staff are very friendly...I really like that they will give you a loaner car/rental at no charge to you when it's going to require multiple hours to repair your car..this is not required by any dealership to do but they truly go the extra mile to make you feel like a valued customer and will continue to get my business for many years to come :)

:D Thanks for the responses that I got from y'all.

I went to Hyundai USA website and sent an e-mail to customer service and let them know what was happening. I received an e-mail response from them the next day saying that they were forwarding my e-mail to the regional rep and the dealership, and that I would be hearing from them within three (3) days. It took a week and another e-mail to Hyundai USA before I heard from anyone else, but finally I heard from the dealership that Hyundai USA had contacted them. The Service Manager (SM) at the dealership said that he had been told to replace the emergency brake shoes, and asked how soon I could bring the car in. He also assured me that I would have a loaner made available to me.

I took the car in and they performed the maintenance that was identified and provided a loaner for the time that they had my car (5 days). They also performed the repairs in a TSB on the Driver Positioning Memory. I haven't heard the squealing since then.

My wife and I were talking and we reached the conclusion that Hyundai USA is really trying to provide a quality product/service and distance themselves from the early image of Hyundai and the Excel. The trouble, as we see it, is that the Sales staff is more capable than the Service Managers.

Once again, thanks to all :grouphug: for the info that was provided. :D

Glad to hear you got it fixed.

If you look at my 6/3/11 post, I told you the same thing that Hyundai corporate told you, emergency brake shoes need to be replaced.

I don't know if you saw my post.

It is good to know that they are being consistent with their replies.

I wish the Hyundai delalers would call corporate promptly instead of guessing how to fix things.

Brought my car to the dealer today for this problem. Even had this thread printed out and highlighted for their convenience. Service rep held up her hand ("stop" gesture) and wanted nothing to do with it. So that set the tone for everything. She did, however, copy the TSB # onto the service ticket. When I heard nothing from the dealer after they had the car for 9 hours and 20 minutes, I called to check on the status of it. Below is a summary of what transpired:

4:20PM. Called, tried to reach service dept. My rep wasn’t at her desk. One rep was there, with a customer. Cashier left a message for my rep.

4:50PM. No call back yet. I called again. Again, could not reach anyone in service. Left another message.

5:20PM. Still no call back. I called back and asked for the General Manager. I got the Office Manager. (?) Explained my situation. She said she was going to talk to the Service Director and then would call me back.

5:59PM. Service rep called back, not the Office Manager, as she had promised. Car was not ready, although I dropped it off at 7:00AM at the time of my appt, 11 hours previously.

I got the name of the General Manager, then called trying to express my concern, and he was not at any of the 3 local Hyundai dealerships he owns.

It took an hour and 40 minutes to return my original phone call. The Office Manager never called me back as she said she would. Car is still dead. I have no loaner.

I am going to email Hyundai Corporate. Is this how Lexus owners are treated at their dealerships?

I have a screaching when I back out also and believe it our not, my dealer said that they contacted tech support who say they are lost because this has never happened before!

I have 2010 4.6 with about 26k on it. My car had the similar screeching noise and the issue is now resolved. The dealership initially re-surfaced the rear rotors to eradicate the noise and the noise still persisted after the work. On the second visit, I showed the print out of this thread and the dealership ordered the parts and subsequently replaced the Emergency Brake Shoes and Lining. Hyundai part number 58305-3MA32. Guess what! No noise backing out whether the car is cold or hot. If the service department has an issue replacing the parts, one should ask for the name and telephone number of the HMA District Parts Service Manager. I truly think HMA wants to make the Hyundai owners happy with the purchase of their products.

I got my car back after being serviced (or not) from the largest volume dealer in California. I also printed out this thread and they wanted nothing to do with it. I thought that was pretty rude. At least they could've read it. They cleaned the emergency brake shoes but didn't replace them (I even gave them the TSB #). The problem is still there. I will try a different dealership...someone who cares...Antioch Hyundai. Their service was excellent at the time of purchasing. I'll give them the above part number...thanks for the tip.

For us future owners info, has anyone with a 2012 had this issue? Curious to know if the 2012's have the the same problem or if Hyundai is using the better pads now. Thanks.
