  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

metallic screech when I back out in morning while turning wheel, NOT BRAKES

I got my car back after being serviced (or not) from the largest volume dealer in California. I also printed out this thread and they wanted nothing to do with it. I thought that was pretty rude. At least they could've read it. They cleaned the emergency brake shoes but didn't replace them (I even gave them the TSB #). The problem is still there. I will try a different dealership...someone who cares...Antioch Hyundai. Their service was excellent at the time of purchasing. I'll give them the above part number...thanks for the tip.

Contact your local Better Business Bureau. It's plainly not acceptable for a service department to disregard a TSB, and arguably unacceptable for them to ignore the results of your online research. IMO far too high a percentage of consumers just turn the other cheek over transgressions like this. Follow-up using the tools available to you as an educated consumer, and be thorough about it, and you'll at least do a small part toward improving service levels for yourself and others. (Voting with your pocket book is helpful, but far short of the powerful feedback you can give using other available tools - many of which are available online.)

One will see a better result contacting the HMA directly either by an email or a telephone call if the dealership refuses to address the known issue. My dealership really takes the vehicle issues seriously.

Hi everyone -- I am the original poster and wanted to provide an update and a happy ending. Reported screech when I brought car in for oil change several months ago. They couldn't "replicate sound" so no repairs done. The sound continued to get worse. It made it when I reversed regardless of the time of the day, the weather -- wet or dry, cold or hot -- almost every single time. Waited to bring it in for next oil change.

This time, I RECORDED THE SOUND on my phone several times over the course of one day so I could play it for them. This way, there was no need for them to try to replicate the sound. I went in with this thread printed out explaining the tsb to replace the parking brake shoes/pads.

In any case, they first attempted to solve the problem by "loosening the parking brake cable" which made no sense to me. Took it home and it screeched all night and the next day. Brought it back and they were very nice about it. I told them "please replace the parking brake shoes." They finally did this [gave me a loaner which was nice] and my vehicle is now blessedly screech-free.

My receipt says "parking brake shoe kit repl". It notes that there is an "applicable tsb" but I don't see a tsb number.

Good luck to anyone else out there with this problem and thanks to the guys who posted the solution.

FYI, same with my Equus. New parking brake shoes, pads, and rotors on back order. Looking forward to the fix when it happens.
Not a safety issue, so no big deal.

Just to add to this thread and mention I had this problem on my 2011 Gen 3.8. It first happened right before my initial 3K service and the Service tech said he knew exactly what the problem was and took care of it since they had the part in stock.
the noise re-surfaced a few months later right before my second oil change (I think it was around 6K) then again at 10K, both times they were taken care of at the dealership and the noise went away.

I am almost at the 13K service and it happened again the other day. Screeching noise when backing up from the driveway in the morning. I am not able to replicate it since we reverse park at work and as a habit I do that everywhere.

Well I also have the same problem. On a resent trip I used the Auto Hold for the first time. Only 3500 miles on the clock. Since then it has been happing more often.

After reading all the posts I see what the part # is but does anybody have the TSB #.

Also anybody in Canada have the same problem. I was told that all TSB from the USA are used by Hyundai Canada.

Took my 2011 V8 back to the dealer and asked explicitly if they'd change the parking brake shoes, because it is a known problem with Genesi and this fix corrects the problem.

They refused to do it, as they said the TSB only applies to 09 cars.

I printed out this thread and they refused to read it, even if informationally.

So...don't buy a car from the largest volume Hyundai dealer in CA. They don't care about customer service.

:( It's me again. Just want to let y'all know that after all that I went thru to get the problem fixed, IT'S BACK. I'll be taking the car in on Friday, 21 Oct 2011, wish me luck.

As for that TSB #, on my service sheet, they ID'd it as TSB 09-BR-001-1, Remove and Replace rear parking brake shoes. That's in San Antonio, Texas. Good Luck to you Canada.:grouphug:

Had shoes, pads, and rotors replaced on my Equus. According to my service writer, there's a new type/manufacturer of the rotors (probably due to so many instances of this problem).
I'm assuming the kit is the same for the Gen, and will post part numbers tomorrow if y'all care.
So far, so good.

:eek: I didn't get to take the car in until last Wednesday. They had it at World Car Hyundai, in San Antonio, Texas, from 0800 til 1800hrs and all they could tell me was that they had verified that the squeal I said was there, was there. 30 minutes later they supposedly found a pebble embedded in the rear brake pad and wanted to keep the car and resurface the rotors, but didn't have a loaner car for me (and I have doctors appointments that I must make). They were more than eager to perform all the things that had not worked the last time, but they refused to perform the TSB that worked for a little while.

By the way, the Service Manager (SM) that I dealt with the last time, said that they had resurfaced the rotors, but the SM that I dealt with this time said that they hadn't resurfaced the rotors, they had only deglazed the brakes.

Once again, I have taken the problem to Hyundai USA. Will keep you all informed of what the outcome is.

:o:grouphug: I know that it's been a while; but this time I wanted to make sure that the squeal was really gone---IT IS!!:D

I called Hyundai USA and they put me in touch with my District Rep. He asked me to take my car to a different dealership, here in town. I did and the difference in attitude was apparent immediately. They had already been contacted by the District Rep and were ready for me. They took my car and put me in a rental (all their loaners were out). They had to order parts for the TSB, hence the need for a rental/loaner car. As soon as a loaner was available, they called me and switched the rental out for the loaner (a 2012 turbo Sonata).

Well, here it is 4+ months later, and there has been no hint of a return of the squeal. They only had my car for 4 days, kept me informed of what was going on. As I said, their attitude was totally different from the other dealership. I am taking my car in to them now for all service needs. Compliance with the TSB for a second (was it really ?) time seems to have done the trick and fixed the problem.

I have to give my thanks to Hyundai USA, the District Rep, the folks at Superior Hyundai and of course, all of you that made inputs.:grouphug: :D Together we can accomplish much!!!!

For us future owners info, has anyone with a 2012 had this issue? Curious to know if the 2012's have the the same problem or if Hyundai is using the better pads now. Thanks.

 After clocking about 2300 miles my 2012 4.6 right rear started squealing. It happens just about every morning when I back out of my parking space. Some days it's very loud other days very faint. I bought the car in the fall and went south for the winter. l am taking it to the local dealer in Coconut Creek, Fl , heard he was a great dealer, for an oil change before heading north. I intend to ask him to remedy the situation.
Hopefully I have better results :) than some other posters have experienced:mad:
Wish me luck.
