Moonroof Track/Motor Replacement

For about the past two years, my moonroof would have intermittent issues closing and opening. The problem would surface as a loud clicking as if the motor's gears were skipping and the glass was jamming. Messing with it enough would eventually get it shut, but I would usually just not mess with it at all.

The first time I took it in, the dealership replaced the motor. The issue came back after awhile. Took it back to them a second time about a month and a half ago; they again replaced the motor and the issue didn't go away. They then moved on to replacing the entire track/moonroof assembly. For this repair, it required the removal of the rear window As of now, I'm still waiting for them to return the vehicle. I'm hoping they didn't mess anything else up in the process of removing the rear window.

I have been provided with a loaner '15 Genesis 5.0; they're not going to be terribly excited with the amount of miles I've had to put on the loaner, but oh well.

I'll keep you all updated on how things turn out for me.

i am sure the repair will come out fine. Hey, enjoy the loaner. I had a loaner for about six weeks when waiting on a part for a 2004 Acura. It was an Acura/Volvo dealership and the loaner was a fully loaded new Volvo wagon. I put about 4000 miles on that car.

What year is yours? (I really shouldn't have to ask this, if this forum would simply record that as part of the profile!!) Mine is a 2012, and I just had very similar symptoms to yours, especially the clicking when the window jammed. They had to drop the headliner and replace the track the moonroof rolled in. Parts weren't expensive, but the labor (5+ hours) certainly was. It's working fine now. My wallet still hasn't recovered. :-(

Your dealer replaced the track without removing the headliner from the vehicle through the back window? I called another local dealer and they said they had to remove the rear window as well for track replacement on a Genesis fairly recently. The bill for that repair came out to $1200.

No, they dropped the head-liner. As far as I know, the rear window was not involved, at least not that they told me about. And my fare came out to just under $1k. I'm starting to feel a *little* better about what I paid, just now. Nope, it didn't last long, still not happy.
