  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Muffler Replacement 3.8L Questions

Shot a few more clips of my Genesis in motion this morning. The clips show hard launches, slow take offs, and cruise-bys. As you can see/hear, the exhaust has a nice sound to it when you're not really getting on it. Under hard acceleration it's not quite as pretty, but I still think it's a little better than the whisper quiet stock sound.

I agree, I think it sounds pretty nice (OEM infiniti) with normal driving and accelleration, but under more open throttle it sounds like a goat getting slaughtered.

lol at the goat getting slaughtered. Yes, it's not ideal but would probably be OK on a sports coupe. On this car it sounds not quite right. I think i can live with it until someone proposes a better solution - maybe the resonator delete + two VT's?. Maybe a better resonator? The stock resonator weighs at least 40 lbs, no joke so is quite a restriction.

More clips of normal acceleration. I actually think the raspiness has dissapated a little bit since last Friday. It's still there albeit less. The revs at the end definitely have less rasp than my earlier videos. Of course, I could just be lying to myself. ;)

Light to Moderate Acceleration + Revs

Last post I'll make in this thread about my exhaust. I finally broke down and couldn't stand the excessive rasp anymore resulting from no resonator. I bought myself two small 12" glasspacks and had them installed in place of where the stock resonator was.

I think I have a nicer tone now and a happy medium between stock and the craziness of running straight pipes in place of the resonator. I'll let you be the judge. Take in mind that these guys were literally installed 20 minutes before this video was shot so I expect some breaking in over time.

On my M5 I bought remote controled electric cut outs. You can adjust the sound from inside to what ever sound you want. There is a video on you tube for the 4.6 I believe.
