  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Multifunction Switch (TSS/Wiper) now 15 year Unlimited Mile Warranty

Got this in the mail yesterday. Couldn't find anything about any issues on the web. Guess it might start to whack out on me sometime. $700! YIKES!

Be interesting to check if this is covered in Canada also...

Wonder if this has anything to do with my auto wipers having a will of their own...? Mostly no will.

I got the letter too.

So this will or won't cover the wiper issue like I have where wipers randomly won't turn on when I use the stalk?

I think the extended warranty is more for the headlight switch. My light switch have developed an issue that causes the headlight mode to change by itself and sometimes the headlights goes dark for a second before going back to auto mode. Very unsafe for night driving for sure.

It only happen about three times in about 12 months, but the switch may just fail completely at the wrong time I fear so I will make an appointment to fix it since I got my letter.

Now how about an extended warranty for the faulty turn signal/DRL bulbs. My right one just burned out last week.

Don't think they can warranty a basic incandescent light bulb lifespan. Cars have been using them for decades and they just burn out now and then. Sadly Hyundai didn't take that next step to make them LED like EVERY SINGLE source of light on the rest of the car.

The bulb should have been two filaments. One for the turn signal and one for the DRL. I should have made it more plain in my post.

I just got this letter a couple of days ago. It came just in time. My headlights started switching in and out of auto mode a couple of times, but it's very infrequent. I'll ask the dealership next time I'm there for service, but I suspect I may have to wait until I can reproduce the problem for them.

The bulb is actually a two-filament bulb, with a bright filament for turn signals/DRLs and a dim filament for parking lights. The dim filament, however, does not meet the requirements of either the turn signal or the DRL, and using for the DRL is prohibited by the standard. The bright filament is intended for intermittent operation as a turn signal, not for constant on operation as a DRL. Since it is rated for a relatively short lifespan, using it as a DRL burns it out quickly. A better option would have been to use the LED strip in high/bright mode for DRLs like they did in every other country and every model year except 2015.

That said, I believe my turn signal bulbs have lasted five years (I almost never use my DRLs). If yours are blowing frequently, it may be a problem with the harness. There are a couple of detailed threads about.

I just don't use the DRL/Auto setting... Replacing the bulbs for the 5.0 is a pain in the ass.

If the fault is in the switch (it probably is) then it's covered. The multifunction switch uses a common circuit board between the turn signal switch and the wiper switch.

Tired of those pesky headlights turning off or erratic random wiper actuation at engine start? Fear no more, the $700 culprit is now under a really long warranty.
All this time I thought the headlights cutting in and out was just a charming way that my car wanted to remind me it's a Hyundai.
I got this letter yesterday and didn't realize that's what it's for. Has anyone successfully contacted a dealer and asked for this fix?

I must admit that I did sum-up the defective light switch to Hyundai cost cutting to keep the Genesis 5.0 competitively priced.

Understandably; there are compromises to be made to keep this well equipped car priced cheaper than it German competition, and I accepted that it would items like switches and control knobs.

However, I do not accept that my headlights could fail at anytime. Hyundai should have made sure that the headlight switch and wiper switch was well made and of quality; even if they had to cheapen out on other switches in the cabin.

"Has anyone successfully contacted a dealer and asked for this fix?"

Yes. My lights went out at night when in Auto mode; manual mode restored them.
Then they fixed themselves.
When I mentioned to my service writer, he immediately replied "we need to get you in for a new switch".
No questions asked; that was in Mid January this year.

I guess based on what I've read I should stop using the auto position for the headlights...

I've not had any similar issues in the last 18 months of owning the vehicle though...

Good idea. However, I do not know if using manual light mode will prevent the switch from turning the headlight off still at random.

Hyundai should also extend the warranty on the 3rd brake light assembly. My rubber moulding just crumbled and sagged, conveniently shortly after the 5/60 warranty expired.

Anyone know if Canadian cars get this warranty extension?
