  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My Genesis has 8,000 miles on it. I started up one day last week and the dash began displaying numerous system faults and failures. Numerous "Check XXX system" messages. The car would drive but transmission kept cycling through different gears and the steering wheel had no feel to it all.

Then a message popped up on the Nav display telling me the car had serious problems and push this button to contact BlueLink. Immediately the BlueLink rep came on line and looked at the fault codes. He said the car needs to go to shop now and made all the arrangements with the dealer right away. I drove it straight there.

All the failures were due to the right rear wheel speed sensor failing...the car could not figure out it's true speed. Fixed up and running good again...very happy with dealership.

As an aside, if you are considering which engine to get, the dealer loaned me a new 3.8 Genesis for the several days it took to get mine fixed. Driving it for several hundred miles convinced me the 5.0 is a much better car to drive. The difference in torque during everyday driving is very noticeable and the 3.8 always seems to be running up to much higher rpm's before the next shift. Also, the tires on the 3.8 (Michelins) were extremely noisy.

Finally, the dealer also replaced my tires (tire recall) and I like the new Continentals even better than the Hankooks. Very quiet and great performance.

Nonsense - I drove a 2015 with Hankook's for 19 months and now have a 2016 with Michelins since January. Both tires are pretty quiet and the Michelins are not any noisier than the Hankooks. The Michelins do ride a little better as well. However, I did prefer the overall handling feel with the Hankooks - seemed to grip better and provide a little more confident handling characteristics when pushed (less "squirrely"?).

wow that's crazy... who knew a simple sensor could cause so much trouble!

+1 for the Michelin tires.

Had this brand/model on several cars. Always quiet and smooth performance.

:welcome: aboard! Thank You for posting up your issue as it will help someone down the line later. I too had the 3.8 as a loaner car and agree with you that the 5.0 has much better response as it should.

Both tires are pretty quiet

It's all subjective, your definition of "pretty quiet" just differs from mine. That's OK.

I'm not in the tire selling business, so I'm just reporting what I observed. Driving a couple hundred miles on the exact same roads in two different Genesis, I found the Michelins to be very noisy compared to the Hankooks I had or the Continentals I have now.

Cheers.

I have some Michelins that are very quiet (not OEM's). If one gets Michelin Energy Saver tires, don't expect them to be quiet.

Not really subjective as I'm talking about absolute noise level between the 2 tires on the same model car on the same roads - I guess it depends on how bad your roads are? But the fact is that on asphalt (paved) roads, both tires are very quiet and there really is no discernible difference between them with respect to road noise. Perhaps, it's different on concrete or poor quality (rough) asphalt?

Road noise from tires can also vary based on cars door seals. Right now my dealer has ordered a new drivers door seal because it is deformed, letting in noise to the cabin.

I am dealing with the same issue and have been for about 3 weeks, however, mine doesn't seem to be as simple of a fix.

I mentioned this post to the service advisor and they tested the wheel speed sensor and found no fault. They cleaned the AEB system sensor and recalibrated all other safety systems. Told me they took on an extended road test afterwards and all was well. Of course when I picked it up and started it, most all errors came back and the service department was closed at that point. I was not able to get it back to them right away and all errors stopped for about a week, however most returned on Friday. I am taking it back in today.

I am experiencing the following errors, however they are not necessarily all present at the same time.

ABS warning light
Power steering warning light
Wheel alignment warning light
Stability control warning light
Auto Hold warning light
Check AEB System
Check TPMS
Check SCC System
Check BSD System

Additionally, it is hard to steer at slow speeds and when reversing it feels like the break is rubbing or something else is going on as it feels like the tire is slipping. I feel like its brains are scrambled.

I'll report back when/if they are able to resolve.

UPDATE: Turns out it was the wheel speed sensor. According to the service advisor, it failed after "multiple tests".

Sounds like a power generation issue. I had a 2005 RL and if the car's electrical system wasn't perfect...BAM. I'd get warning signs out the wazoo.

Had exact same issue just now. I drove to dealership immediately. Mine started with a battery warning light and notice that battery was “discharging”??? Not sure what caused this to happen but all systems then had errors a few minutes later. I couldn’t put it in park and power steering was completely out, or would kick on and kick off randomly. After driving for a few miles it all stopped before I got to the dealership.

Will see! Fingers crossed. 🤞

**UPDATE** - The dealership either disconnected the Electronic Control Module (ECM) or the clip dislodged itself. After I reconnected the ECM clip (under the hood on the driver's side near windshield), then dislodged the battery for 30 minutes to clear out the computer, it now runs fine. Ran Diagnostic at a different dealership and there are no issues. Curiously, the cover that goes over these electronics is missing and I am assuming it is somewhere on the shop floor at the first dealership. Never going back to that service department again, and call into Genesis Corporate to get some things ironed out, and replace that missing cover.

Anyway, check your ECM, TCM and PCM connections to the computer. They can "suspiciously" become unhooked/dislodged, it seems.
