  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I saw in another thread where someone mentioned corners that were cut in the 2015 Genesis, and here are my observed differences.

Things present on the 2012 which are missing on the 2015:
  • No adaptive headlights
  • No "wood" steering wheel, though there could be a technical reason. With LKAS, the 2015 senses when your hands are on the wheel
  • No pull-out door bins
  • Smaller less substantial feeling DIS knob
  • Might be a slight downgrade in the stock stereo
... there may be other items; I can't think of them off the top of my head.

Now here's what the 2015 upgrades vs the 2012:
  • HUD- Worth every penny this costs and then some
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Panoramic moonroof
  • Better handling with better steering feel
  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • MUCH better air conditioning
  • Passenger seat cooling
  • More effortless engine power down low
  • Quieter
  • Safer in an accident (hopefully I'll never have to test this one out)
  • More Bluetooth integration (in theory, because in practice my head-unit has never done BT correctly due to a defect; new one on order now)
  • Variable damping system

Ah okay, I wondered about that. Corrected in the original. Despite it being plastic, I think it gave the illusion of being more upscale.

I don't think a real wood steering wheel would pass muster from a safety perspective, as it might break too easily, and every piece of wood varies in strength.

I agree. I swapped the all leather wheel in my RSpec for a black wood wheel. I love it.

I wonder why the 2015's do not have adaptive headlights...
Do they still have auto-leveling upon start-up?

I'll take a leather steering wheel over the plastic wood or the wood that is so overly lacquered that it feels like plastic any day of the week. Definitely could have used those adaptive headlights though!

I thought the wood wheel in the Gen 1 was was really fake looking. An extremely poor attempt at real wood. Real wood wheels are rather common on high end cars by the way and they are stunning in comparison. Like the all leather look by far on the Gen2.

The headlights are not adaptive but are self levelling if you have the HID option that is.

Oh and speaking of lighting, the interior lighting on the Gen2 is fantastic, perfect led set up IMO.

I agree 100% about the interior lighting. I was travelling late at night and reduced the panel lights all the way down and turned off the nav display. There is a cool blue white beam of light from inside the button for the sun roof that shines down to illuminate the center console area. It looks like moon shine (not the liquor) kind. LOL. Its a really nice touch.

I was at the dealers today for an oil change and I test drove a new 5.0.

I can tell up front - that handling and steering feel is waaay better than 1st Genny!

My only complain was :D that I've tried a few times and I wasn't able to lit up those tires! I had the traction and stability control turned OFF and in "Sport mode" ....what's the catch?

This is a nice feature. My wifes Optima has this exact same light, except in white.

500-600 additional pounds lol.

I much prefer an all leather covered steering wheel than a leather wood combo (even a well done leather/wood combo).

I have no problem breaking the rear tires loose if I want to.

In my case.. Drove what I bought. They had full tank of 87. Same results as you. Now with couple K miles, 93 octane non/low ethanol, I agree with above TPR5.0 ^^. ESC will kick in.. Have not "lit them up", but it seems now to have the grunt to do it.

Drove my 2012 5.0 today.. Is lighter and no that the intake flapper is dealt with, is quicker, and faster over long acceleration than the Ultimate I have. As much as I still like the 2012 (always will), not in the same league as the Ultimate 5.0. However, 2012 is back to getting over 30mpg on highway. 31.23 measured yesterday and today. Not the Highest ever gotten, but still very good. I think I was wrong about the unapproved reflash they did on the CPU. Seemed like mileage dropped by 3mpg. Once I did another intake valve clean recently, back to 30+ highway. Ultimate has not reached that. Do not expect to..

Not that I really care if the car can loose the traction, actually I like it when it grips better with those wide tires ;)
We went to another dealer today and I let my wife drive one of those 5.0....she said the same thing - that the steering has much nicer feeling, no vibrations going over speed bumps and/or rough roads like the 1st Genny has. Not to mention she liked more modern interior. Now I wonder, if I get the "green light" from her...........or not?

I would definitely miss my Titanium Gray- fastest color, but such is life

Sounds like wife will give green light. Good hunting. Hey, keep your old one. As yours is the fastest color... [emoji6] and nothing like having dual Gennys to spread the mileage around.

Nah....one car is more than enough for me, since I drive it weekly and put about 8k miles a year.
Since I mentioned that - the dealer suggested to lease it instead of buying it?

BTW. My Wife likes her 2014 long base Santa Fe better. She doesn't like to seat a few inches from the ground as I don't mind that at all :)

Get all that. Excellent rates on 10k leases from what we have seen.

Santa Fe three row is a nice SUV..
