My 2012 Genesis is a LEMON! (TIC)

TIC= Tongue and cheek

Genny's are OK by me

As the original poster, I would like to have this thread closed.

TIC meant tongue in cheek. I started this thread to combat all of the negative things being repeated ad nauseum by a small but vocal group of posters.

My Genesis has been nothing short of a joy to own and drive.

Some of us knew what the TIC was but wanted to add our .02 cents. ;)

Hi,
I'm new to the Hyundai forum as I have just purchased a 2012 Genesis 3.8L. This post kinda scared me with the LEMON title but I see it was just sarcasm. But I would like some help to get a better warm fuzzy about my recent purchase. I've had my car about 3 days now, traded in my 2008 BMW 550I, which was a beast on the road performance wise. But it was out of warranty and I just didn't feel comfortable keeping it with repair cost on it!

So I took a leap of faith with buying a Hyundai, I've owned BMW, Toyota, Lexus, VW, Nissan and even some American vehicles. My favorite was my Toyota 4runner and my Lexus 300..both were very very reliable vehicles! So now I'm in this new Hyundai..looks nice, but the more I drive it, the more I feel like I'm in a cheap car and not a 30K+ luxury vehicle. The interior fit and finish is lacking to me, my door handles on the inside feel very cheapish and the buttons on the steering wheel look and fell very cheap. The ride is very "soft" and handling uninspiring, smooth ride but that's it. So I'm sitting here having second thoughts about my purchase. Wondering if I should have just purchased a Lexus, something I know, comfortable with and better fit and finish.

Am I just jumping the gun and pre-judging the Genesis after only a few days or should I consider letting it go. I bought it from one of those dealership that gives you a 5 day return policy! Not that I want my BMW back..but not sure if Hyundai is at a place yet in build quality like Lexus or Infiniti. I'm open to any input that will either ease my nerves or push to get rid of this car now! I want quality, relibility and a little fun driving factor..but after a few days still not sold on if this is the one. Please help:)

I'm not quite coming from a BMW but I am coming from a CTS. To put it simply, I just love my car. The power, the ride, the features, the heads it turns, the piece of mind delivered by the warranty. I plan on keeping this car until 100K miles. My only complaints at all are the seat bolstering, and the service department, no real issues, but the customer service has not been what I grew used to with my CTS (no free car washes, no detailing when I get my oil changes, etc.), but overall I like this car even better than my CTS. Executive luxury at a Ford price.

Cedalang, plz return your car. You may be going blind.

Is this a sarcastic reply? I'm honestly trying to get the opinion of those of you that have been owners of the Genesis to see if this is really a car to keep.

Some degree of buyer's remorse isn't unexpected, but it's hard to see why you didn't notice the things that are bothering you before you took the plunge. I'm certainly not going to try to talk you into keeping the car. I'm very happy with mine, however that doesn't mean that you shouldn't ditch it for another BMW, MB, Lexus, or whatever if you're not satisfied.

But be honest with yourself: Is it really build quality that you're concerned about or the fact that you're driving a Hyundai?

I want you to close your eyes and relax....you are feeling sleepy, your eyes are growing heavy, you are falling into a deep sleep.....you are now under my power....when you awake you will love your Hyundai, it will feel more luxurious than a Bentley, the ride will exceed your expectations, etc, etc

In other words, if you are not happy with the quality, the ride, the handling, the fit and finish, why would anything anyone tells you make you feel differently???

Why on earth did you buy a car that you did not research, to your own satisfaction before you purchased it. For me the Genesis is the best car I have owned and that includes Mercedes, Toyota, BMW, Acura, Mazda, Ford, Chevy.

if you're coming from the 550, i can understand that the 3.8 doesn't feel as refined or powerful. but that leads me to ask why you didn't get the 4.6.

having recently owned a Lexus ES 350, i can definitely say that my 4.6 is a more luxurious car with a better engine and better handling. interior quality to me seems similar. i think the 3.8 is more comparable to the Lexus ES.

my advice: trade in the 3.8 for the 4.6, as i think you are accustomed to how a V8 feels, so you should stick with a V8.

I do long for the well-appointed service lounge at the local Lexus dealer. They have that fancy coffee machine and lots of cookie/cake treats. They sir you to death and have fat Lexus logo towels in the restrooms that you'd like to swipe and take home. I solve that problem by dropping into the Lexus dealer whenever I need a free cup of coffee and a bun. Next stop is the MB and BMW lounges.

I had considered the ES 350 during my latest car hunt, but rejected it as less sporty (boring) and too expensive with the options I wanted. Sure, buying a Genesis, or Equus, is somewhat of a dice roll since they are very new products. Yet, they do seem on the cutting edge world-wide and their sales in the USA are very impressive. I would have to be crazy, and my wife dead, to buy a BMW, or MB. My only BMW was a 1970 2002 that cost $2,800 delivered in Frankfurt. Brought it home after my Army assignment in Berlin. It proved to be a lemon, but was the most exciting driver's car I've owned.

I'm confused, the only reason the first guy thinks his Genesis is a lemon is because it gets bad gas mileage. i would almost gaurentee this guy is flyin off the line and slammin the breaks. even if you only get to 30 mph, that would do it

This thread has gotten sooooooo out of hand, it's not even funny.

But I can't resist and ask this question: Why, oh why, buy a car without doing the proper research first?

I joined this forum ONE YEAR AND FIVE MONTHS AGO to learn FROM THE INSIDE whether the Genesis would be the right car for me. I get my bonus check on February 24th. Will be picking up my R-Spec on February 25th.

I am not suggesting this extreme, but man... you'd think you'd have taken several test drives and read a little more before making a $30k decision.

(rolls eyes)

Hi,
... but the more I drive it, the more I feel like I'm in a cheap car and not a 30K+ luxury vehicle.

I'm not exactly sure what a 30K+ luxury vehicle is. I certainly wouldn't consider a base 3-series or C-class or I-series a luxury vehicle. Maybe that's just me.

I hope none of my comments were interpreted negatively. I got the OP's TIC. Wasn't that hard to pick up on.

As the original poster (OP), this thread is a wonderful microcosm of our society. No one listens to what the speaker says but everyone jumps in with their respective opinions even if completely off topic and they voice them loudly and repeatedly because they can them dominate a conversation, even if completely off topic.

There are plenty of places on this forum to discuss the myriad of problems people are presenting here but this thread is not it.

Still love my Genesis! It is soon going on a family vacation to the Florida panhandle. I look forward to the smooth ride, the great gas mileage, the interior room and the wonderful trunk space.

Out!

Just the other day... had to make a Doctor's appointment for a surgery consult.
It appears to be a side-effect... every time I step into the car.

To have the smile removed from my face. :D:D:D

Agreed. We'd much rather have others think for us and tell us when we should be outraged.
