If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

We tried to set the cruise control we had pushed the cruise control button on and it came on. We tried to to set this cruise control it gave us a light for the smart cruise control system with an exclamation point it will not set the cruise control Matt no matter what we do even if the smart cruise is off cuz he's never pushed it to set thing what could be the issue I'm using voice cuz I'm in the car okay so I do apologize if some words don't click right just hit me up and have me do it again or if you can call me. My number is 910-660-9143. We're driving 2hr each way tonight.

the smart cruise is a very complicated system using radar. One of the radar sensors could be bad. You will need to have a Hyundai dealer or an indie shop with knowledge and proper diagnostic to find the problem. Has the front bumper been hit or damaged under the front from high curbs?

If you're getting this red error light, then you most likely have 1 of 2 problems:
1) the Radar module is bad.
2) the HECU (ABS) module is bad.

A dealer can diagnose it. Hopefully you're covered by an extended warranty... it won't be a cheap fix. Just had the HECU replaced in my '12 4.6 at 66k two weeks ago miles for $2500 covered 100% by extended warranty.

I put a detailed list of symptoms in this post.

I've had that happen when driving on the highway in extreme cold on my 2012. Went away after parked and being warmed up so I thought it might have been frost building up on or behind one of the sensor screens. If the radar can't see, the cruise will shut down. I believe there is a way to switch between smart cruise and regular cruise. Never tried it.

I have no warranty. The cruise does not work either. Hmm depressing.

Okay, I'll hope for that.

I was reading another thread where there was a TSB about this issue. Is this true>>>?

Not in the 1st generation Genesis smart cruise cars (20011-2014). In the 2015+ you can disable smart cruise by holding down the button, but that feature is not available in our cars.

Well Hyundai is going to check me car out for 100 bux. After that, I've read to expect max 1500.00 if both issue 1 and 2 are bad but would you guys break this down for me pricewise on parts. My buddy is a mechanic going to handle the changing out handling these parts for me.

I'm going to call customer service and plead with them that by law because of my disability, i need cruise or im not to drive the car. Are there any attorneys that could PM me? I'll shoot you my cell number. I know all the saying about used cars so please save it. Just assist me into making this an at least an easier blow to my empty pockets.

The smart cruise control on the tech package has no fall back manual option, it is smart only and if the malfunction light is on it would be totally inoperative. This also happens in sleet, slush and snow conditions rendering the Smart cruise inop.
I doubt that Hyundai is associated with any disabled driver controls other than in an advisory role and this type of product falls on 3rd party suppliers to alter vehicles for use with specific DA controls.
The question I would have is did your specialty control supplier sign of on this Hyundai model equipped with Smart Cruise Control?
As far as the ADA laws are concerned any modifications and their functions working correctly would fall on these 3rd party suppliers who certify the control systems not Hyundai.

HUH??? The hand controls arent even on the car yet. They haven't even shipped. What made you think they were IDK. I stated on the 1st thread my friend was driving the car. Ive yet to drive it. My Voc. Rehab informed me to try the Better Business Bureau to get involved. The dealer should have informed me after driving the car 120mi to me that the cruise was in-opt or hell even b4 they left. There is no way their mechanic drove 120miles and didn't try to use the cruise control. I informed them of everything wrong.issue with my 2013 Honda Fit Sport Navi with 10k miles before they left. They could have not done what they did. It was shady and wrong. I plan to put them on blast in the Cary, NC paper after we go for mediation. Unless im gagged... I do want the car but just want the cruise fixed. If it fails again, it's on me. Its USED which I totally get. What say you?

Good news,

The dealership owner called after i sent them a message that i was reporting them to the BBB and to my aunt who is the editor-in-chief for the Raleigh News and Observer (The dealer is in Cary, NC which covers that city too). He stated that the salesman was wrong sending me the car while hiding the fact about the SCC had failed and he wanted to make it right. He asked if i could bring the car back u to do the repairs on the SCC. I replied, "TOMORROW". Here my question to u fine people, what else should i have him check/replace that causes the SCC to stop functioning or anything else on this 2012 with 121,000mi. This is a 1 time reboot i have being out of warranty by 20,000mi so help me make the best of it. Thanks for all of your help. PM me if you like.

HOORAY!! Congrats! That is good news.
Not sure if it is possible or not but i would get them to do a full tune up + timing check/change (yeah pushing), transmission drain fill, fix everything that is wrong.
What do you think?

I'd have them pull the service history. Have them do all the required 90-120k mile recommended maintenance at minimum unless they have HMA service history showing that it's been done. Engine Oil/Filter, Brake fluid (they'll replace if the HECU unit is bad), Transmission fluid, spark plugs if they were not done at 105k mi.

Well now I'm very upset. I'm trying to be professional and as well spoken as I can BUT. I had a friends god son drive me 2 hours to Cary. They pulled the car in. Came out 45 minutes and the owner claimed the mechanic got it working. Well we thank them, said happy holidays and left to get food and beat 1700 rush our, Nope. We got stuck. Couldn't try the ACC Until we got to Benson where I-95/-40 intersect. It offloaded a lot of cars. so we tried the ACC. Same F'g thing happened. Hazard light and fail. I called the dealer and stated it still failed like usual but this time, you are going to pay the 120.00 fee for the Genesis Dealer to do a full electronic diagnostic and what ever they need to fix, Can be done here, you'll just get the invoice.what a waste of a 4hr drive. At least we got back by 1830. Grrr. What would you guys do? Follow with my threat to report this to my Aunt (editor-and-chief For the Raleigh paper) and contact the BBB? Im so mad I could burn that place down with post on my FaceBook Page and in the local Craigslist page too. I know where to do this. Its just a matter of when. Thanks guys. But a get ****ing PISSed when someone wastes my time. I even bought my driver lunch and the gas. Totaling 70 bux. Almost what it would have been to pay Hyundai/Genesis dealer to perform a check-up.

Dude

I would have left it and asked for a loaner. They need to drive it, check it all over and everything. Sounds like something intermittent. Sorry you are having to go through this.

Wow, that's a tough call. The solution, it seems is to have a Hyundai dealer do the fix. They should have the expertise to properly diagnose and the right parts if needed.

It is easy if the dealer agrees up front. It is more difficult if they do not and small claims court would then be a solution. As is the BBB report and newspaper article. It may be difficult under the circumstances, but you have the edge by maintaining your calm demeanor trying to handle it. You will probably not get your gas money back though. Good luck. Wave to us if you are on Judge Judy.

I don’t think you’re going t to be able to declare this as fixed until the dealer is finished with it and you take a test with with the technician and try it out. It seems to happen to you every time you drive it so it should be easy to test while you’re with the technician. I am a big believer in having a technician ride along for demonstrating a problem and also for testing the fix. Even if it is intermittent you’ll be ahead of the game
Good luck

A loaner? This is a used car dealer and a loaner is easy for you. You dont need hand controls to be able to drive.

Heres where the legality rules in my head start turning. Because the Dealership (Cary Imports), called me to bring the car up to makes right, is that an admission of guilt to selling me a car without telling me the thing that were wrong with the car after they drove it 120mi to my house? Does that make sense...lol?

I think you missed where im mad because i had someone drive me 2hr north to have it fixed. 45min later they said it was fixed. We then got food, and headed home. Once out of the RDU metro area we tried the cruise. It failed. I called them back but the owner had gone home already. I was heading home because I had to get my friends god son back home too. My Voc. REHAB will not install the new 3,000.00 set of hand controls unless the cruise is working. My license stipulates the car im driving must have hand controls, leather, pwr seats, and cruise control. You think your foot gets tire staying steady mph. Your arm/wrist is worse. Thanks for the input. Just keep in mind im a paraplegic. Ive been without a car for a month, this dealer has known from the start of my limitations etc. Im not pissed to the point of being disrespectful. Ill let my cuz do the write-up of this story. the BBB ive done before. Retired judges hear your case.

Any ideas you guys can think of? Any lawyers that can fill me in?

I was hoping you'd be posting good news by now.
Maybe a lawyer is needed, but before I went that route I'd consider
1. Get a diagnosis from a Hyundai dealer (expect to pay for that)
2. Tell the seller what it will cost and ask him to pay
3. If he pays, easy and done, but if not. . .
4. Either small claims court or a letter from a lawyer. I'm not a lawyer and cannot give legal advice, only ideas.
