Update on the Genesis sedan of my views.

I had the day off today, and been able to go down to the same Hyundai dealership that I visited before, here are my updated thoughts.

I have tried the seats on the black one that had the sticker price of $40,000. I remember the last time I was there, the price for the car inside the showroom was $36,000. Yes, it was the tech package that they didn't have before, I found out when I found that little knob inside.

Styling wise, my view haven't changed, that I still think it's too generic looking and too plain so that it won't really turn head unless they know about the car and was looking for it in the street while driving. The interior also, my view haven't changed, EXCEPT one thing. It's seats.

First of all, the door, one thing I hated with all the imports was that the door was too light and felt cheap, Genesis's door didn't feel as heavy as American cars, but it's got a bit of a weight in there that I didn't experienced on their sonatas, or Camry's. It was still not as weighty as a big American sedans, but I kinda liked the big thump of the door close that I haven't noticed in other imports so far, so, to me, that's a score one for Hyundai.

I got inside the car, and the first thing I tested was the seat's materials. I was pleasantly surpriced. It was really soft to the touch, and could feel the quality was there, even though I had a tough time finding my comfortable driving position, and to me, in comfort wise, it was rather firmer than I'd like and wasn't really comfy as I was used to the American sedans. Next thing I looked for was the front visibility. I will give it a solid B+. It was decent, and in a way it was better than my Grand Prix, which sits lower, but still, I wanted it to have a bit more opened view for this class of car. Could be just me since I am rather short. Next, the door trims. The door trims is one thing that I hated the most. The brown just isn't my style. I am not sure if there is another choice, but the brown just didn't go together with the black interior, also, the door was too thin to my style. I prefer the American sedans, heavy, big doors with a thick doorframes, that most imports don't give you that are heavy and when you close it, you can hear a big thump.

The interior room however, surpasses everything I've driven so far. Sure, it may not be a Rolls-Royce, or a Limousine, it was like one of the most spacious sedans I've been on, import or domestic. I tried the rear seats as well, and again, there are so much space there is, for 3 full size adults and then some.

I guess, for this car, you really have to test the interior to really see what it is made of.

I still have a lot of complaints btw, but since this site does not like me since I am the only one that does not like the car, if you want to read it whole, just visit my site's thread here:

I already made a whole lot of enemies in this site, so that is what I am going to do, and since I know most people just don't like reading.

GranPrix08...seriously, don't leave. It's not that we don't like you, but prior to this you hadn't been inside the car (I wish you would drive it as well). Even though I completely disagree with your views and opinions of the Genesis, at least your opinion now has a basis. And I think that is all we were looking for from the start. So again, please don't leave. Variety is the spice of life, and as crazy and out there some of your opinions and statements have been (in my opinion), at the very least they generated a lot of conversation. If any of my comments have come across as mean spirited, I apologize. Please stay.

GrandPrix,

Thank you for your impressions. I do appreciate it (I'm sure others do as well). I apologize if I've in any way contributed to making you feel like your opinions weren't welcome here, because that's not true. I'm sure HyundaiGenesis doesn't feel that way either, but I guess I shouldn't speak for him. I was only trying to help keep the site organized and ensure people voice their opinions in the proper thread. Either way, I don't think you've made any enemies here.

Again, thanks for your feedback. I can't say I personally agree with some of your comments, but it's obvious we just have different taste in automobiles. Nothing wrong with that....it'd be pretty boring if we all drove beige Camrys. ;)

If you do end up buying a Genesis for your Dad, be sure to keep us posted on how it treats him! I'd also like to hear what you have to say about the Genesis once you get the chance to drive one. If you "liked' the interior, I think you'll be pleasantly suprised by how it drives.

I liked your review on your site. I definitely don't agree with all your comments but shows alot of thought and time. Thanx.

40K at least to me is alot of money for a car. I think Hyundai got some things right some things wrong.

They missed alot of their projections and promises. This is their first attempt and from what they've done in the past they will probably fix the things that they got wrong this time around.

Don't worry about it if you've made enemies on this site, may be temporary. Hopefully, they will review their comments and be more realistic in the future.

If you did make permanent enemies, there are narcissistic jackasses everywhere. Just have deal with them.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Well, I too have read your post and like everyone else I agree with some of the points you have made and strongly disagree with others. It is true that you are controversial at best, but that is what makes the forum and life (by extension) interesting. If you want to leave the forum, then the choice is yours my friend; but personally, if you were to do so - I would be very disapointed in you.

Stick around man. Just tone down the whole "Non-American cars = crap, American-cars/Pointiacs = awesome" mantra. We know your story by now :D

Thank you for your review, GrandPrix08! And especially since you actually did get to sit in the car, ALL of your opinions are welcome here! This is YOUR thread and you can say whatever you want in it. And now that you have more of a basis to your opinions, we can take them as (your) fact - and that's 100% cool with all of us...

Like Jwaters kinda said - if we all had the exact same opinions, life would be kinda boring...

We can not under any circumstances just pick up our ball and say we are not going to play any more and go home with our tails tucked between our legs. That is not what America is all about. Diversity is the key, diversity in our opinions, likes, dislikes and the vastness of our past personal experiences. Diversity is what differentiates the USA vs. any other country in the world and is the key to our strength and ability to adapt and change. We all share a common piece of heritage in that none of us (apologies to native american indians) was originaly from the USA. Our cultures are unique and our views are unique. We learn from the bias of others. It is time to step up to the plate and continue to play ball!!

GrandPrix,
You are most free to express your opinions, and they are welcome here. But you must realize that others will express their opinions of your opinions, and none of that is personal. That's America! Stick around!

GrandPrix08,

There are some points that I agree but most I don't agree. The doors may not have that 'thump' you're looking for but keep in mind, the heavy door feel is a thing of the past. As manufacturers fight to make vehicles lighter, some things will change but not at the risk of safety.

No offense but you loving domestic cars and all, I find it hard to see how you're nitpicking so much on a car that surpasses most domestics vehicle in quality, reliability, etc. Yes, there is no perfect car and for Hyundai's first attempt at luxury/sport, IMO it's a pretty good attempt. This only gives them room for improvement but nevertheless, this car has more features standard and as options at a much more affordable price. I personally don't concern myself with image badging. The only other car I would consider is the M35 and it's 10k more plus requires premium fuel.

I've had domestic and import and although I was a long time domestic enthusiast, I still love my classics and muscle cars. But on the current offerings, imports have been kicking butt; especially Hyundai.

Like others have mentioned, don't knock a car until you've tried it.

GrandPrix08,
Thanks for going and at least sitting in the car. I do wish that you would drive the Genesis. There are many more things that you may be able to comment on then.

My whole problem was when you were constantly cutting the car down without even being in it or driving it.

You know the same could be said of you recommending or not recommending a restaurant to someone without even tasting the food first.

I did not suggest you leave the site if you are trully interested in the Genesis. The only thing I was trying to say was that I think Hyundai Genesis started the site for the Hyundai Genesis. It's up to him but I hated for the forum to go into older Pontiac or GM cars.

I do like to hear from those who have or are thinking of buying a car that would be considered direct competion to the Genesis as I think that is only fair.

You are certainly entitled to your opinions of the Genesis. I don't agree with most things that you bring up that you don't like about the car but as I said earlier everyone is different and you can never get 100% agreement on anything.

I have to say I do find it interesting, that if I understood you right earlier, that you were originally from South Korea. I will have to give you credit at least with being very pro-american as to being loyal to only american car manufacturer's. I would like to be and maybe will be some day again if they keep improving their cars.

So in concluding the one thing you have over me is that quite honestly you would appear to be more american than me as far as which auto companies you support.

I'm sorry if I took what jwaters943 had said and turned the screws and heat up a bit. I should have just left well enough alone. Besides he did a good job of handling it in the first place.

I myself have got off topic at times and admit to that. It's funny but you start to look at people on here as sort of pen pals who happen to all love cars in my estimation. I don't want to be responsible for chasing any of my friends here away.

GrandPrix,

I echo the sentiments of the previous posters.

Keep pushing for Made in America; some good Korean competition might slow down the Japanese and give Detroit more reasons to get their act together!
