  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello Everyone, I have had my 3.8GT coupe since April 2009 and I have not been able to drive it for over 4 months. The first problem is that the car would go into limp mode (no traction control system, no gears) also, the blue tooth did not work, the Ipod and stereo system also were not working well. So they replaced..The transmission at 9000kms, the traction control system. Then the car would not start at all.. Apparently it could of turned off while driving. So they replaced more parts, electrical, power boxes, bolts, batteries.. ect.. Still no fix. Hyundai Canada refused to replace the car. Then they ordered me a new main computer.. I couldn't believe it. Then I got it back 2 weeks ago and the car began to creek.. So they fixed the creeking.. However, the original problem still persists..

Yet Hyundai Canada still will not do anything..

Anyone else have these problems.. Give me a shout

I have no idea how lemon laws work in Canada, but they vary here in the states in each state. In PA I believe that if a car is not drivable for 30 days due to a problem, that is covered under the lemon laws. However, the car must be in the hands of the deal for that period of time...not sitting in your driveway. When you say you have not "been able" to drive your car, do you mean that it has been with the dealer? If not, the laws will look at it as it being your choice to not drive it. It is all very complicated. If you suspect you have gotten a lemon, you should enlist a lemon law attorney familiar with your laws and get professional advice.

In Canada, there is no Lemon law. My car has been at the dealer for 4 months. Most likely will go back today. I am so frustrated that I don't even want the car anymore as it never works. It's so incredibly disappointing as it is such a beautiful car. If I lived in the states this wouldn't be a problem. But all we have in Canada is CAMVAP and it is horrible process and if you win they give the car back to the dealership to re sell it to someone else. I just can't do that.. Give my problem to another poor person.

If you were in the States- many Lemon Laws here (non-Obama made cars) would have you a brand new vehicle if 1. same problem persists after 3 service visits, 2. A problem is deemed serious to safety and again persistant after service visits 3. Amount of time vehicle has been in shop and not drivable.

Wish you all the luck. If no success- water or fire damage on a well insured car may get you new (minus depreciation and deductable...lol

Well.. Hyundai Canada may be starting to panic now. As I am now willing to go to the paper and the news if they do not cart this lemon car away and give me a new one. Seeing I bought their extended warranty and every other thing that I could buy. Or they may have some bad publicity on your hands...

Good to know about Hyundia customer service.....Will definately make me think twice.

yeah dude lemons exist, it's just a matter of when not if... Mass produced cars are getting better though

This dude is in Canada. No Lemon Law. I think I read one story about a Genesis sedan Lemon that was taken care of here in the states.

Just like anything else, sometimes shit happens.

Yes it does, and what a company does when it doesn't have to says a lot about it. There is a right thing to do and a wrong......

Well I am a girl not a dude.. I have been involved in the car industry for 12 years, and I am very aware that cars are lemons.. I have no problem with it. My problem is that a company that produces the cars does not take ownership of the problem. That they would not replace the car when I have given them a year to try to fix it. That is the real issue when a manufacturer will not back the product they sell..

This is my point exactly.. As if I was in the states they would have replaced my car 6 months ago..

Well folks, here is the update. So... They called me into the dealership and made me think that I was getting a new car.. Then the hammer hit.. Get ready! So they were going to give me $27k for my $44k car! Even though it's not my fault it's a lemon! It gets worse.. So I have a 2.5% interest rate and they wanted to give me a 4.5% interest rate! Then I found out that they have a lower interest rate and didn't offer it to me.. So then I would have to start my loan on the new again.. And loose $17k.. That is right.. Talk about taking it up the ass! As you can imagine.. I freaked out and left.. Still waiting for them to do something better..

Cheers.

thats B@LL SH!T

time to flood the press with negative news. Maybe even get a lawyer; sorry for your crappy experience............

I think it is time to stop waiting for them to do something and do what you said you would.

First document your problems from day one. Make sure you stress how much of the time they had the car, vs. you, and the problems that still persist. Let them know the details of the how they were going to charge you $17,000 to get a new car, and give you a worse interest rate than you have now.

You want something the reporter can review and verify. Then call the local papers and TV stations and talk to reporters. Mail your laundry list of problems to every news source you can think of. Make sure to .cc Hyundai of Canada on all correspondence.

Sometimes it takes actual pressure from the media, vs. a threat to go to the media, to get results.

Thank you for the reply folks! I am working on all of those things now! Getting everything ready to go to the news!

Good. Also, it wouldn't hurt to start a more worldwide campaign. The easiest and quickest way would be to start a Facebook page with a title like, "Hyundai Canada sold me a lemon and wants $17,000 to replace it" or "Canadians who have been cheated by Hyundai." That will bring others, who have had similar problems to light, and make it a larger issue for them.

Here is an example.

At very least, you will get the satisfaction of knowing you caused them as much financially, probably significantly more, than they did you.

Update**

Well everyone.. The new genesis is on it's way. At no cost to me and all my warranties will be transfered over. I guess sometimes patience and kindness pays off. The only difference is the color will be grey at my request. I love the blue but it's not been good luck for me.

hey, im having a problem with my coupe too. For some reason when the car hits 60mph, the traction light goes off and rpms go up but the car does not move. The dealer told me they couldnt find any problems. In order to actually take it on the highway and go over 60 i have to take the traction control off.

Hello, are you in the states? I would keep bringing it back.. Call Hyundai corporate if you are not getting results from the dealer. It took me 15 months but I got it done. You should not put up with the problem. At the very least they should be replacing the traction control system. I took pictures of the dash each time a problem occured so that they could see what was happening. You may want to try that as well.
