I have had four Genesis.
First was a 2009 4.6 which was totaled in a snowstorm - hit a stopped big rig in a white out while doing 40+mph. No personal injury. Great crash protection.
Second was a 2011 4.6 which I sold to a friend.
Third was a 2012 5.0 Rspec which I traded on a 2013 3.8.
Of the four my favorite was the 2013 3.8. It lighter motor weigh made it seem more "balanced", and it got great gas mileage, like about 30mpg @ 70mph.
HOWEVER, the 3.8 depreciates at a far greater rate than the V8 versions; and this greater depreciation rate wipes out any gas mileage savings.
The new Genesis has a lot of great features, but in my opinion, I prefer the pre-2015 grill and the lighter weight of the earlier Genesis.
Price for a new Genesis V8 has increased a lot, and so has weight. A 2015 Genesis V8 weighs 4541 lb. A 2014 Equus weighs 4563 lb. The Equus Signature version's MSRP is about $62K and the V8 Genesis about $52+K.
The 2014 Equus have not been selling well and Autotrader had (December) over 200 for sale at deep discounts. The discounted 2015 V8 Genesis and 2014 Equus sell about for the same amount - say around $47K, though you can probably do better.
So, at the end of the year I bought a 2014 Equus for $45K. It doesn't have the heads up display or the panoramic sunroof of the new Genesis, but in all other respects it is at a level above the Genesis. EPA is the same for both cars at 23 mpg highway.
