  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My Genesis was stolen, if in FL please keep a lookout

The police found the car in Fort Lauderdale :) They destroyed a tire and scraped up one wheel. No major damage is apparent unless they damaged the suspension when they cracked the sidewall of said tire. The car won't start it looks like they tried to mess with the electronics and broke something while doing it

If electronics are even partly toast the car could be totaled by your insurance.

Surely replacing an engine computer is cheaper than totaling the whole car. When I picked up the car the anti-theft warning light was on and I figured that was why the car died on me, but dealer is having problems starting it. I thought they could reset the anti-theft themselves so there must be some other problem.

1. homeofstone is right.
2. I hope you can still find a new 5.0 Ultimate, and if you can...
3. Enjoy your new Genesis!!!

I hope so, I had a heck of a time finding any 5.0 Ultimates, let alone the Montecito Blue/Ivory I wanted. Dealers seemed to be pushing 3.8 Base models.

Trying to appeal to the low monthly payment leaser.

You're probably right. If they total the car I might be in a better credit tier this time around (lower payment) but I'll probably still be out another down payment which sucks. As you note I might have difficulty getting another 5.0 Ultimate since the dealers don't seem to like them much. The timing is terrible too since I was hoping to wait until the G80s show up next year.

What a relief! I am happy for you!!
If you have seen my posts, Im all about layered security. When you get everything together, I would highly recommend a security system be installed by a professional (LO-JACK, CompuStar, Excalibur, etc) and it be a 2way. Then let your insurance company know so you will have cheaper insurance if it qualifies.

Good luck with everything!

Doesn't something like Lo-Jack just duplicate Blue Link?

Blue Link with remote recovery is $200 a year. Kind of expensive for such a rare occurrence (vehicle theft). Btw, my dealer thinks they jacked the car with a laptop, that's why the engine computer is messed up ($1500+).

$200 is a lot less than the depreciation hit you'll take on the insurance payout if totaled or the amount you'll put down on a new car....

Personally, I would save up for a house or rental with a garage before I purchased a nice car.

This is disturbing. That likely means the word is out among thieves about a vulnerability that Hyundai doesn't know about yet. Something tells me you won't be the last one to suffer this indignation.

Computer came down in price substantially as my Gen 1 was quoted as $10,000  to replace by the insurance people.

I bet someone is impersonating a Bluelink server.

wow surprised to hear of the method employed, this type of electronic start theft has been going on in the EU for some years now targeting mercs and beamers.

If they are impersonating a bluelink server and unlocking and remote starting through that, I wonder if there is any way to completely shut off the cell phone portion of the system? Maybe a fuse to pull?
I personally have no use for the blue link stuff, so if they did go through the cellular portion of it, completely shutting that off should stop the problem, right?

Unless, maybe, they used the computer to generate a duplicate key, based off the VIN of the car. However to do this, they would have had to have access to Hyundai dealer info, right? If that is how they did it, we are all vulnerable.

It was hard enough to find my 2015 5.0 ultimate, and even though it has its quirks, I love the car and I don't want to go through the search again.
