  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My Genesis...

Ordered my front hood wing which when applied should complete the badging, with the exception of removing the rear GENESIS from trunk. By the way, will applying the wing ON TOP of the 3M protective have any negligible effect on the coating?

Added the front wing to the hood. Took me 10 minutes to use the dremel and sand down the nobs and 5 minutes to install on a clean surface. Personally, after much debate the front wing adds to the car. I really like it...

Also, does anyone know if these rock chips can be removed? I have 2 small ones on the bumper and molding. It looks like it lifted the pain a bit, nothing huge but still super annoying! :-)

Thanks!

I noticed your tag in the front windshield says Capital. That's the same place I purchased my Genesis from. I was reluctant to put the front badge but decided to go for it. I think it looks better. For the paint chips there are some mobile dent/paint chip repair places. I know Dentpro colors offers that service. You might want to check out yelp.com to search for good place. Rock chips annoy me to death so I had Clearba installed to the whole front end.

The clear bra is the only way to go. I have one on my present car (G35 Coupe) and wouldn't buy any car today without getting one. The front bumper gets the brunt of the road debris.

The wings look nice and have to admit the Genesis looks best in white!!!! Would that be a biased statement if I have white as well?

I also have a couple rock chips... I bought a paint pen from my dealer for $10. It takes the curse off, but not a complete fix.

See? Yet another argument in favor of protective film!

With the rock chips, it's not as if they will ever go away or there won't be more. Once you get the protection of the clear bra, you won't have to keep inspecting your car for new surprises. For the money you spend, you will put your mind at ease and keep your car looking new.

Having mine done tomorrow morning. The whole 9 yards including the light, fogs and rear bumper sill. All in Venture sheild 14 thou material. Got a decent price of $600 for the works. :D

Geeze... I need to get into that business... That stuff can't cost that much and the labor might be what....4 or 5 hrs?

Question: How can you wax/polish your car with the film on it? You'd be waxing the film and not the paint; does that matter?

@nearwater: Thank you for the play by play on fixing the chip. Not sure I'm clever enough to do that without screwing it up more. :-) The wing added more to the car IMO. Definitely put it on!

@oldtimer: I'm note sure what you mean by applying ON TOP. I asked a friend who does body and paint and he said that using the 3M adhesive on the hood will not damage the car. This is the adhesive that comes with the emblem.

@itsjustmatt23: Yes sir. Capital Hyundai! Those chips annoy the living you know watta out of me too. If I may ask, where did you get the clearbra? How much was it? Thanks for the tip on a place to get it fixed!

@Bocatrip: Did you install a clearbra on your genesis?

@ASHDUMP: I did not know you could by those from the dealer. Thank you for bringing that up. I contemplated getting black, then silver and when I saw the white I was sold! :D

@dg_moore and Midnightsun: thanks for posting!

I would love to know more about these clearbras / film. Is it different then the black ones?

@Midnight, can you post pictures of your when done?

You treat the film the same as the paint and wax it as well. There is a product called Plexus that you can use, especially at the edges of the film to remove any dirt that accumulates. It's good to use a toothbrush with the plexus to remove any dirt at the corners.

The film is quite expensive, and the skill required to apply it correctly is significant. On my black Genesis the only way you can tell the film (VentureShield) is present is to lift the hood and see where the material is wrapped around the edge. You clean it with Plexus plastic cleaner/polish; Zaino Pro 5 is recommended for waxing. It's guaranteed for the life of the car.

Another plus - the UV transmission of the film is 100%, so if the film is removed in the future the paint underneath will have faded at the same rate as the rest of the car, so it will still match.

1. What parts of the car have the film? (If hood, is it half the hood or total)?
2. cost?

Flamenguista - I found Elite Auto films on Yelp.com. I was a bit nervous cause some people can cut through the paint if they don't know what they are doing when they are cutting the excess film. I had the owner(Goshan) do the install and watched him every minute in my garage. (I'm that meticulous)I got prices from $900 and I really did not want to spend that much. I told Goshan I'll pay you cash 600 bucks to do the whole front end. Hood, fenders bumper, side mirrors. I did the headlights myself from an Ebay kit so that was not included in the $600. I've tried to go the cheap route and bought whole kit from ebay and it was CRAP. Don't waste your money. BTW the film he used was Xpel.

FlameGuista,.,. Where are you at?? It looks like you are in my area of Southern California..

@itsjustmatt23: Thank you very much for the link! Right now I'm working to get the chips fixed then I need to do some soul searching on spending the money to get the clearbra / film.

@jailer: I'm in Northern California my friend but I do travel down to SoCal once a month to hang out with friends and embark in some debauchery! I love Southern California!
