If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

After about 2 weeks of ownership of my 2011 Genesis, I thought I would give my impressions of the Suspension.

I took the car on some of the roads that would test the Dampening to the utmost. Roads where the pavement went severely up and down between concrete sections. IMHO the Genesis performed flawlessly. Each dip would cause the car to come back to level without any up and down motion. It seemed perfectly damped. This was with my stock Dunlop 18 inch tires with all tire pressure at 33 psi.

I am not sure if there has been any changes to the 2011 suspension or not, but this car's ride is better than any I've owned. I would not change a thing. On the other hand when I test drove a 2010 Genesis, I felt that there was a difference between the 2011. The 2010 seemed a bit harsher and bouncier to me. Nothing that I would have complained about, but this 2011 does seem different and better to me.

Hmmm...

I wonder what parts were changed?

What was the PSI of the tires on the 2010 you drove?

The damping on my 2010 Genesis sedan is optimum (speed bumps are popular around here and provide excellent testing sites).

Damping is the ability of a stored energy system to supress oscillations. A typical pendulum is under-damped as it oscillates (swings back and forth) for a long time after being perturbed.

What it means for drivers is that a properly damped vehicle does not continue to bounce up and down (oscillate) after traversing a significant bump in the road.

How the energy is initally absorbed and then dissipated (damped) is a fun engineering subject of debate.

That to me sounds like the Hyundai has increased the dampening rate for the 2011 model. I hope the suspension stays nearly as firm as the 2010 model other than the dampening performance. You don't want to go too soft as it will hurt the handling performance. Looks like I would need to look for the 2010 model and not the 2011 model.

As for the tire pressure I like to keep at least 40 psi or higher for nice "bouncy" firm ride.:p I love bouncy hard rides. It is dream.

I'm guessing most likely around 33 psi most people keep at low psi like that for soft ride. If I was the dealership manager I would keep all cars at 40+ psi for nice firm ride.:p

You are jumping to some wild conclusions. There is no evidence yet that the suspension has changed from 2010 to 2011.

Cars transported to the US from overseas come with at least 40 PSI (all brands) and the dealer is "supposed" to lower it to the recommended value as part of dealer prep. Not all of them do that for every car (not on purpose, but because of an oversight, or their employees are incompetent).

Yes, anyone can "guess" that car was prepped properly to 33 PSI, but I am not interested in guesses, only in facts.

I do hope the 2011 model has the same suspension setup as the 2010 model.

Neither do I.:D More likely he will tell you that he didn't check the PSI before he test drove it.

Which means that his conclusions that the 2011 suspension has changed may be in error.

Personally, it wouldn't bother me to find out that the 2011 suspension has changed from 2010, since I intend to upgrade my early 2009 suspension soon, but more information would be needed to reach that conclusion.

I guess we need a list of parts if any that were upgraded. Is a new parts guide coming out anytime soon?

If they did I would need to see what parts were changed so I could make the decision to swap out more parts. The only thing I possibly think they did and this could be unlikely is a forth revision to the rear sway bar.
