  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My Genesis is 6 months old and I have finally reached just over 1k miles so I wanted to give it a try . Upon flooring the accelerator it felt like it had reached the bottom but upon further foot pressure the pedel droped another half inch or so. I have examined this while parked and there is nothing binding the accelerator peddle but there is truly a stop point about one inch or so from the floor board. I tried to ask a dealer and he had no idea if this is normal and I have read the manual. Is this a problem or something that is there for a reason? After hitting the hard spot in the throttle and pressing on there seems to be no boost in acceleration.
Thanks for any help
Gary

PS this is a v6 tech package..

that's the wide open throttle(w.o.t.) switch at the end of accelerator travel, before that is the closed throttle(c.t.) portion. Once you hit the WOT switch, it will give you the kick down function(forced down shift). It's normal, hope this info help.

Thanks for the info flyingcarpet -- great stuff!

garwal, six months & 1K miles?!?! Do you keep your Genesis in the garage Mon - Fri, and just break it out on the weekends?

you should drive it more often. If you only drive it once per week, that's not good for the baterry and engine. enjoy the car! you deserve it!

I thank you so much for the answer, I have to admit I don't understand what the function is but it is nice to know that it is not just my auto. I called the dealer and all they had to say was never heard of this and to bring it in . Such crap from this dealer, I know why they want it in $$$$ for them. Why does Hyundai put up with some of these stupid dealers? And yes I usually don't drive much during the week, thanks for the tip I will start cursing more :)
I traded in a 06 Charger Hemi I had for three years and it had 6K miles total, so you see I don't drive much these days. I am 60 and retired and used to be a police officer so I got my fill of driving. Thanks again for the help; Genesis owners are a great bunch of folks.

I haven't noticed that stop (or hesitation) on the accelerator a half-inch or so short of the floorboard on my 4.6. Will look for it next time I take the car out for a spin. What you described sounds a little like what was somewhat common starting in the late '50s, when many V-8s were equipped with a four-barrel carburetor. Until you reached a pressure point on the accelerator, only two barrels of the carburetor were open. Pushing the accelerator past the stop would open up the two remaining barrels and, depending on the speed you were going, the additional power and torque from the motor would cause the tranny to kick down a gear (sometimes two) if it was an automatic. I hate to date myself, but in these troubled times it can be comforting to read something that triggers the mind into recalling a past that in some respects was more pleasant than the present.

By the way, I'm 65 and also a retired cop (pulled the pin back in '01 after 32 years of service). Also like you, I don't drive the Genesis much. I've had it two months and the odometer just turned over 1K, which means I may be headed for a 6,000 mile year if nothing changes. That's not to say that I don't pop a beer now and then and go sit in the garage and stare at it. What a beautiful machine!

HA!! I've GOT to remember to do that!

Wow, now I don't feel bad. After reading the thread from the guy w/ 20k miles on his Genesis already I felt bad about only having put 6100+ miles on my Genesis in 9 months.

1k miles in 6 months = less than 5.5 miles per day.

Either way, I'm glad you're enjoying your Genesis, but do it a favor and take it on a nice roadtrip or something. :)
