  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Nav system--can't enter street names.

All of the Tech packages (both 2009 and 2010) have the 4/2008 database since an update hasn't been released since the car has been in production.

It's unknown whether the update will do anything but update the map database, so while it's possible that it will address that nag, don't count on it.

You can "cancel" navigation by either using voice command to "suspend route guidance" or if you're in map view, pressing the controller and then selecting "suspend route guidance" from the menu that pops up.

The map update IS available (I got mine yesterday from the dealer) and has map data labeled version 3.0 and a release date stamp of 08/2009.

It's a 3 DVD set that needs to be installed by the dealer and takes about 3 hours from start to finish.

With respect, you're quoting a post that's 6 weeks old, and regardless of the date of the actual map data, the upgrade was confirmed as not available by Hyundai in December and by Map&Soft in January. I'm glad it is available now though.

Do you know whether the entry behavior described in this thread exists in your updated system? Thanks.

System still behaves the same way, but if you're in "map mode" and just press down on your controller 2x, you can suspend route guidance easily.

Subsequently, to resume that route, when in map mode, press down on the controller again (2x) to execute, or 1x to see the ensuing menu that gives you that option.

Break out the Garmin then. It's usual and customary for updates on OEM auto GPS units to cost that much. I'd imagine that most of that has to do with how much NAVTEQ charges for the map data plus the captive audience.

BMW: $199 list
Mercedes: $249 list
Honda/Acura: $199 list
Toyota/Lexus: $265 list
Cadillac: $199 list
etc.

Since Garmin buys the same maps from Navteq, I suspect it is mostly typical OEM captive audience market...the same reason all parts cost so much from dealersn (though Garmin recently penned a 6 year deal with Navteq which might allow it access to the maps cheaper.) You can buy Garmin's yearly updates for $60 and I bought a lifetime update for $80. With the Garmin lifetime update you can update quarterly.

Ultimately, I suspect, the best system will be one that works like the subscription services that are based on the latest maps being downloaded real time.

I just spoke with MapnSoft/NavTec about this issue. (It's nice to know that I'm not alone in this at least.) Anyway, I was told that the upgrade has been finalized. They are waiting for approval from Corporate in Korea to release it. I asked as to how we are supposed to know when the release actually occurs. She stated that while they did have information on some owners, as furnished by the dealerships, she couldn't offer assurance that all Genesis owners would be notified. She suggested that I call back in 3 to 4 weeks. 888-757-0010.

I do wonder though: Does this update apply to the Nav systems in both the V6 and V8, or just to the V6? Does anyone know?

Just to clarify. I got my 2010 4.6 with tech on February 8th and it had the latest map data installed.

Glad to hear there's more than just me with the 2009 map data! We've got doubters here that don't seem to believe me.

I think the doubt is the conflicting information. When M&S USA is saying that the upgrade discs are not yet available, and Hyundai service departments are saying they don't have it yet, that's where the doubt comes from.

I have no problem believing that recent 2010's may have the new map data installed at the factory, since it's logical that would happen before upgrade discs are released to the channel.

It's unclear to me whether everyone is talking about the same thing. For all we know, the M&S update that M&S is saying is awaiting corporate approval may be a more recent version of the 3.0 Aug 2009 software that is apparently out there. Or maybe you're lucky :)

Mind sharing your dealer's name and location? I'm sure some folks would be happy to point their own parts departments to that dealer to "share the wealth" ;)

I don't mind at all: Dave Mungenast St. Louis Hyundai - (314) 731-4986

Not sure if luck is really the key element, as they made a call for me, got the update, and installed it as part of a TSB.

First, Can you buy the disk(s) and have them sent to yourself? or must you go to the dealer for installation?

Second anyone know of any other button press combinations to get into other menues?

I'm not aware of any other option than to have the dealer take care of it.

For some reason I like to press the voice button and say "cancel guidance".

I also like to fool friends and say computer - press voice button - cancel guidance.

I love thinking I'm Captain Kirk in my new Genesis.

I get in this car and have to think - geez - I'm driving in my new Genesis.

Oh what a feeling - oops - wrong car.
