  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My Genny's nav system started showing us to be in a different state again. This first happened last spring and the dealer changed the antenna. All was well until several weeks ago when it started "relocating" me again. The technician recharged the capacitor and my servicer advisor told me that if this did not work they would replace the head unit, which he predicted would happen but had to go trough this process first. Well, the fix lasted about three weeks and now a new unit is on order from Korea.

I have no problem with Hyundai's and my dealer's actions but think that Hyundai should have replacement parts warehoused in the US. (My service advisor told me that this was only the second head unit that they have had to replace; the other one was on a Sonata).

Unfortunately the head-units in the Genesis do not have a particularly outstanding history of reliability.

Hence the thinking behind my purchasing a 10/100K/$0 HPP warranty. Mine was replaced yesterday due to radio issues. The dealer apparently had it in stock or at least close by as it only took a couple of days.

Starting in 2016 model year, Hyundai is changing their warranty to include the audio/nav system in the standard 60K mile - 5 year new car warranty. For 2015 model year or earlier, the audio/nav only has a 36K mile - 36 month warranty, so the extended warranty is probably a good idea. This applies to all Hyundai's, except the Equus, which already the audio/nav system at 60K mile - 5 year.

These are Hyundai Motor America (USA) warranties. Hyundai warranties in other countries may vary due to legal issues and competitive strategies.

The 10/100 extended warranty for the 2016's should now be cheaper too as it is covering a shorter extension period?

Warranties begin when you purchase the car, or extended warranty, not the start of a model year, assuming there was such a date. ;)

??? The 2015 had 3 years/36K miles standard, so the extended 10/100 was covering for an additional 7 years/64K miles. So..... since the 2016 has 5 years/60K standard, then the extended warranty is only covering an additional 5 years/40K miles! I would therefore expect it to cost less if purchased for a 2016!

He is theorizing that the cost of the extended warranty should decrease starting for 2016 models, now that new car warranty has been expanded to include some things that previously expired after 36 months, or 36K miles.

In theory that is correct, but my garbage company keeps adding on the same "fuel surcharge" fee now, as they did back in 2013 when the cost of gas/diesel was almost twice as high.

Yes, dream on if you expect the extended warranty costs to be reduced for '16 models.

Does this look similar to issues you had with the Navigation?

Mine will lose track of the road it's on and start going in the heading it was last pointed. After about 1-2 minutes it will snap back onto the street. The last time I drove the car it did it about 3 times in a span of 2 hours.

I thought about updating the GPS software to the newest version coming out in December, but might hold off until I have the dealership look at it. [I'm worried the software is a one time use only thing to and if the dealer changes head units it won't work again] I can't force it to do it so the best I can do is take it to the dealer and show them this video.

I really hope they get these issues worked out. luckily I have mine warrantied until 100k but still, for such an integral part of the car to malfunction so frequently is not what we need at this point in the game.

I'm shocked the 100k warranty can actually be so cheap, given that we have seen a few nav failures and audio failures on the board and we are what one year into this generation? Isn't the nav system alone like $3k in replacement cost? At this rate the warranty companies will be bankrupt as these cars get to over 75k miles!

The center console with the 9" screen is $3800 to replace, as per the parts department when I had to have mine done.

Not in a million years. Warranty companies are not gamblers and it is game rigged in their favor. It is all data driven and no one is losing any money except the consumer who will usually not use the premium paid over the life and are buying peace of mind.

Not my issues at all. My arrow moves away from the road that I'm on and shows me on a road in another state.

Found another video with the same issue I'm having.

I guess I will have the dealership look at it.
