  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Nav-TV

Got my VIM for the Genesis today and the installation was fair but I'm not that handy as far as electronics go.

1st test was removing the cover for the radio. I took a pastic edge and I finally was able to pry if off 20 minutes

Make sure to cover the wood with a towel as you will need to set your radio on it

In order to put on the VIM the Genesis will NOT be able to shut off completely.

Once the radio is out you have very little wiggle room. It took me a while to detach the harness from the radio. 35 minutes.

I attached everything according to the instructions when finished I was unable to use some of my functions. After going over the everything I found out I installed the video input incorrectly..once I corrected everything worked fine 25 minutes

The hardest part was putting back the radio in to place, as we have much more equipment behind the radio and I found extra space the upper right of the radio. Finally I lined up the screws and nuts in place put the face back on and I now have video in motion.

Total time was 2 hours and 15 minutes. If you know what you are doing probably just over and hour.

The control of the VIM is connected to the Voice control button on the steering wheel
Hold down 3 seconds and bingo the video appears...same goes to turn it off.

Will enjoy this feature on long trips for passengers

Daniel, what does the above sentence mean / Leave the genesis running ans / or the radio ON? or That once in, the Genesis never turns off or ...........?

Thanks, Don

Sorry in order to get the radio out you need to put the Genesis in DRIVE and press down on the parking brake. You can turn off the engine while in DRIVE but electrical systen will remain on.

Thanks Daniel!

I would really love to have a NAV-TV so I could listen to the sound tracks of
musical movies on DVD.

Sounds like the installation is a real bear filled with lots of potential for damage. But that if you go very careful it can be done successfully. Now I just have to figure out how to afford it. Thanks Don

GripperDon,
Remember just be careful. This was my first attempt for anything like this!
It is PLUG AND PLAY.You have the instuctions and if you come into a snag I bet if you call them they can talk you thru it. The VIM is really a nice additon to the Genesis and worth the $400 investment, Really cool doing as a passenger going down the highway with DVD on and that gorgous 7.1 surround sound that goes with it.

Been quiet here for a couple of weeks. How many Genesis installs have been done? Who did the installs themselves? And those of you who have done it, can a novice handle it? Or is this something best left to the more experienced?

AS I told daniel I would have to see if I could afford it.

1.I did not buy as I found another company that is $100 cheaper. The current price is just too much, when I have to do the labor.

2nd The fit behind the radion is rumored to be a tight fit, I have concerns about breaking some other wires of the fiber optic network line.

3rd and the QC bothered me in that Carpers first unit did not work ( imagine haveing to take it back out)

4th Customer communication seemed spotty, no stream of regular info being posted on this forum, as you say things have been quite.

All in all think I'll go with the other guys they emailed me quickly and had a clear reply. I'll not communicate their name in respect of this forum but I found it so you can too.

Can you share a link/info?

I'd also be interested in a link, Don. Even just a brand name.

If you'd be more comfortable PMing me the info, that'd be fine.

Maybe this is worth it's own thread?

Thanks in advance.

Please elaborate. I have searched high and low for video alternatives and haven't seen anything else yet, although it has been a while since I looked.

I love the VIM on my Genesis. It came in handy for the 4 1/2 hour trip to Jacksonville the other day. As a passenger it really made the boring trip much more tolerable.

I sent a email to make sure that it would work on the Genesis sedan and they emailed back and said it would. I PMed all who requested the link. Others can request it of them. I know a number of folks that used them on the nissan murano.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I sent this trying to get more info. Their website is pretty filled with examples of their work. I know they have solde a lot of units, some to friends of mine but I still need better info, Can't figure out why it's so hard to get decision clear info from many vendeors. I want installation manuals, and want then complete. I will say that he answeres within hours, and the units I have seen working in Nissan Muranos work great. anyway here is what I sent to www.TVandNAV2Go.com and their reply. I would buy it if they had more complete info available to inspire confidence, I am just not ready to spent the high cost of the other unit.

Hi Don
Yes I can get you the unit. I currently don't have it in stock it
would take 2 week. The unit is NOT plug and play you have to cut 4 wires

Thanks Dominic

It does play dvd movies from the cars puilt in cd/dvd changer but I am unsure that it is a no wires cut version or not. Thanks for the additional info. I did send you some potential customers based un the answer" if it plays DVD from the changer " The sales person at NAV-TV.com says they never heard of any system but theirs that works for the Hyundai. Thanks Don

GripperDon,

I hope you realize that you are purchasing and supporting a product produced in china and one that is not supported by the seller or in any way manufactured by the seller. It has also not been verified to work in the Genesis. The supplier is a company called BOS in china that produces cheap knock-off goods that work about 40 percent of the time. If it was easy enough to stop your incessant complaining regarding price and get you off our section of this forum I would gladly send you a unit free to try for yourself in order to supply independent feedback. However, I do not believe you are capable of it. Therefore, I will match the price of anything Nav-Tool sells if I can match their service. That means no warranty. No support after the sale. No advanced returns or otherwise. You did not purchase a genesis because it was as cheap as a Kia did you? Both do the same thing but one does it a little better doesn't it? Here's your chance. Name the price on this forum. I'll confirm it and you can obtain our product for the same price. One condition though. No more competing threads or products in our section and no more schizophrenic posting or phishing in this section. Deal? I am posting this publicly and not in a PM because I am a no BS type of person. If you have any doubts please feel free to ask DT on this forum.

Not that I agree with Don one bit, but frankly, I wouldn't want to buy from a company that chooses to respond to feedback or competitive situations in such a personal and emotional manner. You could have chosen to respond to him privately, worded the above post in a way that addressed the competitive situation without attacking him, completely ignored him, asked the site administrator to separate the competitive discussion to an new thread, and so on.

And, as previously mentioned, unless you're prepared to give eval units or special pricing to everyone, you shouldn't post such offers in response to complainers since that only encourages others to do the same.

Question for the NAV TV folks. Would it be possible to use the XM button on the DIS to activate the VIM? Just a thought for those who may not want to re-new there XM subscripiton beyond the time given by Hyundai. This may also allow for the Voice Control to work while using VIM.

***One a side note, GripperDON please remove the link to the competitor. This is the NAV TV section and hence should remain that way. PM or communicate this information in another way. Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter.***

I would remove it myself but do not have access to this section :(

Crupp,

Thank you for your reply. I should be able to
remove the post as a moderator as I can
on my other forums but I cannot here. I have pm'd Gripper
even before Derek posted to him and no response.

As for the vim button question, I
do not think it is possible to use another button,
I am not an engineer and would need to check to be sure.

Crupp,

When I have the VIM working I can use the voice command.

When acctivating the VIM you need to push down on the Voice Command button for 3 seconds.

After its activated you can still use the voice command by just pushing down on the voice command button normally (1 second).

When you want to deactivate the VIM push it down for 3 seconds and returns the DVD to normal.

I keep it on all the time as it doesn't interfer with voice command.

Have any questions and I'll be happy to answer them for you from a consumer's point of view

Daniel
