If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The original Nav system in 2015 Ultimate is so frequently wrong and stupid that I don't use it. Has anyone upgraded to the new map/software? They want $300 for it. I am wondering if the algorithms are any better and can take traffic into account and pick a reasonable route for a change.

doubt it - likely just adds new roads and POI's - not algorithm changes. I actually don't find the system to be so bad if you use the Blue Link Google Search feature - the built in Voice command for NAV just plain sucks!

The Nav update evidently does add more than just new mapping areas, but the website is pretty cryptic what exactly they added. It dies list a set of features, but hard to tell what version it was aded, etc.

As far as the NAV, I guess I'm used to the low bar for in-car Nav, but I don't find this one THAT bad. The graphics and routing are okay and directions are just as good or bad as my last BMW. I have yet to find a NAV system that is exact very time or always picks the best route. It is however, tons better than the days of paper maps and directions and better than staring at a cell phone Google maps screen.

We moved into our house 10/30/13.

Picked up my 2015 Genesis Ultra last week.

My entire subdivision doesn't show up on the map. Two years folks.

In this day and age Automotive Navigation systems suck.

Google Maps or Waze through Android Auto will fix that - but use data too!

Definitely out of date. The new version should fix that. I'm planning on getting the update as a Christmas gift to myself :-).

I wouldn't necessarily count on it - it can take quite a while for new developments/streets to show up.

On the mapnsoft website they have a link to "Map Error Reporter" where you can see what streets are on the most current map. There are new roads in my subdivision that are not in my car but are in the map error reporter. As with anything, I would call them if you want to be sure they are in the update.

Good luck with that !!! ^^^

i use google maps on my droid every day in my current car. when i get the genesis shortly, i expect i will continue to use it. i really was hoping for android auto to be available now for exactly this reason, but i have no intention of using the "standard" navigation hyundai is so proud of.

Tell us your personal experiences why the standard Nav is insufficient?

The "standard" navigation is actually very good. The interface is intuitive and map screens nicely presented with good data. If you get the Ultimate, you get Nav turn-by-turn in the HUD, which is fantastic. I usually also run Waze on my phone to avoid speed traps and get better notifications on accidents, traffic, etc - but I really like the Genesis Nav system - except for the Hyundai voice input that is atrocious: the worst I've ever used (but Bluelink Google voice search is great).

since i said in my post that i don't have the genesis yet, i'm assuming this is sarcastic.

i had a lexus with nav 6 years ago and the genesis's nav looks almost identical (ugly af), and i'm sure is about as useless. i live in a new neighborhood in a city that is constantly getting tons of new restaurants, bars, stores, etc. having 2 year old place recognition seems terrible. i'm hoping this google search thing will be helpful, and i'm hoping there's traffic data built into the nav, but i'm not holding my breath. maybe i'll be pleasantly surprised.

i just thought for sure that android auto would be part of the genesis by this point. not going to make me buy the sonata over the genesis, but still disappointing.

Agreed. Those who have not actually used it should withhold judgement. Not sure if it's the best out there, but have definitely seen a lot worse.

No, I am serious. You have not used this Nav and assume your 6 year old version on another car looks the same, so that's it? I suggest you get the new car, review this Nav and then decide if its not to your liking. As far as updates, that's the way it goes for in-car NAV at the moment. There are regular paid updates - all depends on how your travel area is mapped.

Will a future CarPlay or Android mirror system be better - likely so, since the map data will be more up to date at the very least. But do not assume this NAV is down and out before you actually use it.

well it doesn't really fit my needs, and i already have a phone i use, so... why would i bother?

Maybe I am the minority then but I really like the Nav system. Sure it isn't as good as Google maps, but nothing else is anyways. Look at Apple Maps...they can't even match Google Maps. As far as the Genny Nav, I find it fairly accurate, the poi's content is good, and the rendering is fantastic. As far as automotive Nav systems are concerned I think they nailed it...

Agreed - i really have only encountered 2 times when the location I was looking for was not on the Nav map in the last year. I also have been in places with poor to no cell signal where my phone Nav was useless - that can't happen with the in car system.
Kind of silly for some folks who don't even own the car yet and obviously know very little about the system to write it off before they even try it??

it's not some folks, apparently it's just me. i'll obviously try it, i just am not optimistic based on the data i have so far. my point is mostly that putting android auto on it would be a vast improvement.

I bet there will be no HUD display for Android Auto so you'll lose functionality. I suspect the built-in system will satisfy your needs 99% of the time, especially if you use the Bluelink Google Search. For the outliers, use your phone.

I'd also say that if Android Auto or CarPlay are must haves, you might want to wait for the mid cycle upgrade in 2017 or 2018 as there is no guarantee the 2015 or 2016 will ever get them - the fact that the 2016 launched without them while the updated 2016 Honda Accord has both should be cause for concern that it will ever be refit to 2015/2016's.
