  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I had a 2015 v6 with an 8-inch screen and I did a full update on it in 2022. Unfortunately, it was totalled by hail this year.

So, I bought another used 2015 Genesis, but this one is the v8 5.0 litre with the 9.2-inch screen. If I put the SDCard from the old car in the new car it doesn't work, that's to be expected I guess. I updated the correct software to this "newer" SDCard and it still won't work with this car, even though it worked perfectly in the last car. The original SDCard that the V8 car came with still works, and the map works, but I want to update it.

I've put the update on a separate USB stick that is formatted FAT32, but the car will not recognize ANY USB stick at all. I've tried many (MANY). No USB stick is recognized no matter what I do. So, I came up with the idea of an exact copy of the working SDCard and put an update on that card. However, an exact duplicate of the working SDCard on to another SDCard isn't recognized by the Nav system, even before I update it. Yes, I do know all about FAT32, and I did a forensic copy, so I know it's exactly the same. Yet, still, the car only works with the original SDCard and not the duplicate.

Yes, I know Carplay isn't supposed to work with this. Please do not comment about that. I am trying to update the Nav. This car is somehow locked onto just this SDCard and it will not recognize any update USB or any other SDCard. I do know the USB port works, if I put my iPhone on a USB cable it recognizes my iPhone.

The only thing I can think of is that it needs to go into some kind of Dealer Maintenance mode perhaps?? Is there something like that?

Thanks.

Using the old 1gGB or the now requited 32GB card?

I'm not sure what your asking. But the orginal card that does work with this car is 16GB. Now, that's not enough space for the update, I realize this. However, no USB stick is recognized, and I cannot even start an update. That's why I duplicated it to a 32GB SDcard, but the duplicate has a 16GB FAT32 partition and 16GB free space.

You need 32 GB free space. Reformat with no partition. I think the downloader may do that for you.

I think that you are right. I did this last night. Downloaded the new installer program, plugged my 32GB Flash into my USB adaptor then to my PC. The new installer recognized the Flash card, asked if I wanted to format it (yes) and installed the new software...albeit terribly slowly. Like over a dialup modem, for those old enough to remember. Then with my car running, I inserted the newly formatted Flash media into my car (with the new software) and the car did the rest, again very slowly...maybe 30 minutes to install. Mine is a 2016 3.8 AWD Ultimate, with 9.2" touchscreen. So, I did not have to go into the settings menu to prompt he software update...it just did it when I installed the Flash media. That's my personal experience, at least.

I think that the 9.2" screen system uses a different internal OS than the 8" screen system. Like trying to get Android OS to run on a PC. You may need to start from scratch, format a 32GB flash card with a FAT32 file system, then install the software installer that is unique to your 9.2" screen system. Sorry if you tried this already. I am not trying to offend anyone with my rudimentary suggestion. But I think that the 9.2" screen, if anything, has a less capable OS than the "lower tech" ones.

From a technical standpoint you are probably correct. I don't know a guy that would not want an additional 1.2" if offered though.

Good you got it. You can drive while updating, you just lose a couple of features, like radio and camera.

Maybe YOU can drive while it is updating. LOL! I get all OCD when I am doing anything to my Geny and so I would hyper-fixate on the progress bar and rear end someone. But that's just me.

Be well.

"Shinkage..."
I think that the 8" system was newer than the 9.2" system, but the 9.2 did have more features. It's not unusual for the different systems to be on different design cycles, and for whichever is more common to get a higher priority in development.
