  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Navigation Map and Software Update Discussion Thread

It heats or cools the battery so that it is at the optimal temperature to receive the highest charging power by the time you get to a public DC fast charger.
Got it, thanks.

Yes I quickly found it the next time I was in the car. I think I had seen it before but forgot about it because it's pretty hard to read. It's too skeumorphic, and also the projected angle makes it hard to read.
Me too. But I found that if I keep the car in night mode, the compass becomes perfectly readable. So I keep it in night mode.

The X is the "left box" you can select to enable or disable the compass option. Since the X is visible it is currently disabled. When you get your GV60 you can check it out ;)

I never look at the altimeter, and only occasionally look at the compass. The altimeter is broken and says 150 regardless of where I am. I drive in hilly areas a lot, and it should change, but never does. :(

I don't think that makes it worth staying in night mode all the time, but yes, the simpler artwork used in night mode is much more readable. Wish they would also use it in day mode.

That's a shame. I've been driving around with the compass for the last 24 hours and the altimeter is working great. There are some spots locally that I know the altitude of and it is matching within a couple of feet. 👍

I am on vacation and won't be able to installed the wireless CarPlay update until i return to CT on 11/3. I know a few of the people on this board have reported a change in the GV60 Performance car driving dynamics that the ride is not as squishy and that the car handles better after the update is installed. Now that others have installed this update is do they have any thoughts on this.

Additionally my dealer said that there is a major semiannual update was suppose to be coming out earlier this year but now is suppose to be coming in October. Is this update it or is there another update coming.

I have been having a problem that the native Genesis navigation system shows that I need to charge my vehicle when it is fully charged and I am only a mile away from my destination. I am hoping that one of these new downloads will correct this issue. Has anyone else seen this?

Larry
I returned from vacation ready to install the latest update that I downloaded from the online updater. I found that when I went to install it that the OTA update was now available and I let it download and update the vehicle. It took almost 1.5 hrs to complete.

The good news is the wireless Caplay works great. It also got rid of the other issue that I was having with the Genesis map telling me that I needed to charge my vehicle when it was fully charged and my destination was only 3 miles away.

I also believe there is some validity that it feels like the cars suspension is better and the car doesn’t feel as squishy now.

Overall really pleased with the latest downloaded. Does anyone know if this was the major semi annual download that was supposedly delayed until October?

Larry

Apologies if this is a dumb question, or if it has already been asked/answered: Can I have the car check for any available OTA update(s)?

I'm not aware of any method to force the car to check for updates. Obviously, you want to be in an area with good cell coverage, and you might try the soft reboot sequence also just in case something is "stuck".

If this is like other Genesis models, there is no automatic detection or switching between DST and ST. The way it is supposed to work is that you select the DST box when you are actually in daylight savings time. You unselect it when you are no longer in daylight savings. This will make the time correct till the next change. It's odd that they won't provide an automatic selection, but it is what it is.
If you’ve more than 1 profile set up, change time in each or I’ll be different according to which one your in.

I got impatient and did it with USB stick since I was still on the April release. It is so odd to me how they seem to push to some vehicles and not others. I wish we could crack the code on how to get "on the list". But, thanks to this group, I learned about the download option, did it, and am thrilled to finally have wireless.
Yep, still nice here on our 3 week old car. Dealer said we had to come out to shop to get OTA “initialized”. But, when we got there we were told they didn’t know what we were talking about - it’s all automatic…..

Wireless charging stops if the phone overheats. iPhone for example will tell you that it is stopped charging for temperature reasons, perhaps that was what was happening? 27W is more than enough to charge while projecting, so maybe they weren’t getting 27W from the charger
My iphone 15 pro gets much hotter while charging in the car pad vs in home plug in. As a matter fact, after charging in car mat, I can look at the iPhone battery app and see redlines on the graph during the timeframe the phone was charging in the car.

Charging on a pad will always make a cell phone hotter. I have an alarm clock that has provision for a pad charger (top of clock) or via a cable (outlet back of clock). The cell phone always charges to 100% and doesn't get hot when I use the cable. When I try to use the pad, it will usually stop charging with the message that it is too hot and must wait.

Pads are convenient but traditional cables are better when available.

This is absolutely true, but keep in mind the GV60’s first-Gen Qi charging pad is the slowest and least (thermally) efficient of the four available wireless charging standards... the others being Qi-2, Magsafe, and MagSafe-2nd Gen.

Looks like we need a viable aftermarket solution. Calling KDM...

I bought a MagSafe charger mount in anticipation of the wireless CarPlay rollout. Since the upgrade, I've been struggling to get the phone to charge - the best case seemed to be that it maintained it's charge level while in the car. I think I've figure out what the issue is...

I had the MagSafe charger connected to the data-enabled USB port, which I had previously used. It is limited to 5V - and matched with the MagSafe charger, which could draw a maximum of just over 1A (designed for a 12V supply), resulted in a 5W maximum draw. Given whatever inefficiency/overhead the wireless charger had, it seemed that it could only deliver net power roughly equal to whatever the phone needed to persistently maintain the Wi-Fi connection, etc. required for CarPlay.

The other USB ports in the car support 9V, and I've seen them hit around 25W when charger a laptop via USB-C. When matched with a new qi2 charger at 9V, it can deliver close to 15W of power to the phone. So, the lesson here is to avoid the data port for charging and make sure any charger you use supports 9V.

The other issue I was having with the native wireless charger, at least on Android, is that in combination with wireless AA, the phone would stop charging because it would overheat.

I think given the inefficiency of the built in wireless charger, and the extra heat generated internally by the persistent wi-fi for AA/CP, it is best to avoid the wireless charger if you have wirless AA/CP enaged.

I have been plugging in the phone into the non-data USB-C to charge now without issue when AA is engaged. At the end of the day, I'm still plugging in so I'm not sure the upgrade is an upgrade but at least now I get to chose if and when depending on how much charge my phone has.

Well, since you have the Magsafe mount, maybe put in the Proclip along with a Magsafe charger (like ESR) ?? :)

Ya. I've given up on trying to use the built-in phone heater. There's simply no point to doing so.
Continuing to use the cable seems to defeat the purpose of the whole venture.

I've just stuck the mount in between the two screens using two-sided tape. Easy-peasy.

I just installed the ProClip mount and the Qi2 MagSafe charger from Scosche. I hate that it blocks a passenger vent, but it holds the phone perfectly and charges at full speed from the non-data port. The built in wireless charging pad is a joke and I think that's one of the reasons why so many manufacturers were hesitant to add wireless CarPlay. If only there was a way to upgrade the built in wireless charger to Qi2.

I'm not sure if Qi2 would help much, at least not with the Pixel phones I've had. Even in my Mach E, I could do wireless AA *or* wireless charging. I think both cause heat - GPS and the massive wifi data for screen projection draw quite a bit of current and then with the extra heat from the wireless charging - it often gets to be too much.

I ended up turning off the Qi charging in the vehicle settings because it's still a great place to put the phone. I turned it back on when I upgraded from a Pixel 8 Pro to a Pixel 9 Pro XL, curious to see if there was any improvement with the new phone. But sure enough I got Android Auto's helpful message, "Remove your phone from the charger to improve performance."

Hm… I haven’t had many complaints about the car itself since I bought it last year.
The ones I did have, were all addressed by software updates, shortly after mentioning them here or on one of the facebook groups, so I have a feeling HMG has staff lurking both here and on facebook trying to snap up these issues.

Except for the issue with reverse mirror dipping that I posted about recently.
Genesis , if you’re reading this: I expect to see that fixed in the next update.
