  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New Genesis 4.6 owner here ... with a question about the Navigation system. Thanks for your forum contributions. They've been a great help to me.

When entering a destination through the controller (not voice commands), the first step is to enter the street name (presuming that the state is correct). I don't know about you but I live in a big state, Texas, and there are many streets in Texas with the same name but different directionals (N, S, E, W) and suffixes (lane, circle, drive, street, court, boulevard, etc). On several occasions, I entered the name of the street, Kirby for example, and been presented with a long list of hits. The system didn't "rationalize" the list. In other words, they are all listed instead of treating W Kirby, Kirby, Kirby DR and Kirby ST as "the same" until after a city was selected.

Consequently, I used trial and error to find the street that I wanted. Quite a pain. It did not seem that the street list was in proximity order. And I could not find a way to enter the city FIRST via the controller. (Note: you can enter the city first via voice commands.)

To add injury to accident, after I picked the wrong street (multiple times), I couldn't find a way to go back to the street list. Rather, I had to start from the beginning.

So, is there a way to enter the city first via the controller? Is there a way for the system to ignore directionals and suffixes when selecting a street? Is there a way to sort the street list by proximity? Is there a better way of doing this that I haven't discovered?

I hope that this is clear. Any help here would be appreciated. As a side note, our Honda minivan Nav system doesn't have this problem. It ignores directionals and suffixes.

No clue if it will work, but as a suggestion, you might try entering the street name with quotes around it, like a google search: e.g. 'kirby'
You may get a more targeted answer set.

I don't have an answer, but I have given up using address in the navigator,

The best problem I have is this....

Say you want to pick an address on a state hwy in a DIFFERENT town than you are in. THere is NO way to do it, The Navigator will ONLY allow you to select a # for the street in the current town.

Response: Navigation System Question

It would certainly be helpful if one of the Hyundai Factory guys would wade into the forum. They should have the answer's and be willing to assist.
What do y'all think?

IMHO, the Genesis Navi is not user friendly. My previous car had a Navi that was much more user friendly. To program an address into this unit takes me much too long. Guess I will just have to live with it as I'm not going back to my previous car.

If it is true that a city destination cannot be entered into the Nav. WHY would anyone even think of getting one??? This has been pointed out by several posters. Please forgive me, but I thought that was the reason we get a nav in the first place... Someone: Please tell me I'm not crazy.

I don't have the car, still doing some research on this site and reading the user manuals but from the Driver Information System Manual Page 181 it states that you can put an state or province before entering the address by pushing the control down.

Repeating what I said on another topic, I've never tried to use the Nav in "manual" mode. I've always used the voice command. "She" asks for the state, the city, the street, and the number - in that order. Never had a single issue entering an address at home or in/for another state!
