  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Navigation update -- how much??

You could always bolt a Garmin G1000 system to the dash. It'd give you all the display power you want and leave a tiny bit over the top to see out for a visual approach, I mean parking.

A few items to report: the new upgrade for the genesis navi non-touch screen is now available: ver 2011 05.27.00

Also if you select NAV. Settings form the NAVI menu, you will get all additional info like LAT-LONG and elevation, etc...

It is not like having it on the main screen, but if needed, it is available.
Like to hear the review of the new upgrade, if someone got already.

Thanks.

1st post here. I'm considering purchasing a Genesis for the wifey. It will also be the car we use when we go out together. My Acura '09 TSX just doesn't have enough room in the backseat for our baby carrier. I've always been a honda / acura guy, but I don't think the TL is as big as the Genesis.

Believe it or not I complained about Acura asking $150 for a dvd navigation update for my acura. Well I didn't pay the full price- I just purchased a 2011 update for $60 on ebay a few months ago. (yes it was legit)

I wanted to get my wife a 2012 with the premium package so she could get navi but after reading this thread, I might just get the basic model.

So with the 2012 model, can you update the maps yourself? For the record, I'm the type of guy who would walk across the street and go to mcdonalds before paying $27 for burger - even if I was making 10x what I make now.

Is the stereo as good as everyone says? I've got a 5.1 dvd audio system in my acura and I love it. However I have yet to purchase a single dvd audio disk - they aren't exactly easy to find.

Nope, the TL is not as big as the Genesis, and neither is the RL. The Genesis is bigger and way nicer than both, in my humble opinion. If you are looking for luxury family sedan, the Genesis is tough to beat.

If I were you, I would call and ask your local dealer what they charge for the update disks. The experiences on this thread are all over the place in terms of consistency, and I suspect that many of the variances are due to dealer misunderstandings or dealer fear. If you have a great dealer, then your experience could be totally different.

The other reality is that map updates for OE nav systems cost $150 - $200. That is the current state of the market. I had BMW navigation for 12 years prior to my Genesis and I have an Odyssey with navigation. I have also helped relatives update Lincoln and Toyota systems. So, $200 is standard, but a little on the high side. $300 would make me squirm, but I will cross that bridge when I get there.

See, im the type of guy who'd pay the $27 for the burger ... because I'd get hit walking across the street.

yes the stereo ... is that actually a correct term for it anymore ??? is very good.

take the genesis for a test drive with wife, it's a solid, quiet, roomy, and gets good gas mileage. 10/100 is better then 3/36.
